New Spring flower bed

In the front garden, I’ve just been planting some snowdrops, Cyclamen and Primroses because my husband was missing the Spring garden we had in the old house :)

I’m sorry that you can’t see the effect very well, but it looks pretty to us! Eventually they will all spread, so the bed can only improve. One more for luck . . .

The little curly shrub is Prunus kojo-no-mai, covered in buds, so I’m really looking forward to the blossom.

That looks lovely! Instant colour for an early Spring.

I agree with your husband about the pleasure that a cluster of spring flowers brings. I really like what you have done and it already looks good to me.

Thank you very much Sunny, Chris and Eileen . . . yes, hubby is very happy and even took the photos! And it’s been great to be gardening again . . .

I love the curly branches on your prunus Sheila; and the plants are nicely spaced out.

Thanks Paul - yes, hoping the plants have room to spread eventually:)

Ah...I’m glad you did this Sheila...I was missing your spring garden too. You have quite a big front garden don’t you....lots of potential there. I love my Kojo no mai too. It has grown ever so much in this garden and I’m sure yours will too. We planted one in Rachel’s front garden last week too!

Its looking very cheerful. Will you add some small daffs next year? I think lots of us are impatiently waiting for our Kojo no mai to strut its stuff - photo please when it does! What a big difference cutting a bed in a lawn makes to the whole feel of the garden.

Thanks so much Karen, how lovely for Rachel, she’s sure to love her new little tree.

And that’s a lovely comment, Sue, thank you. Funnily enough we have small tête-à-tête daffs in pots against the house wall, almost visible in the first photo!

I wonder what happened to my mini dafs. I know I planted them. I think they were called minnow or something like that.

The garden looks wonderful, so tidy! The tree will be glorious when in bloom.
As for your mini daffs Bathgate, have you got mice or voles, all my crocus bulbs disappeared from the lawn - which is riddled with vole runs!

Thanks Honeysuckle . . . you wouldn't say that if you'd seen the garden last week! But it's amazing how cutting the lawn plus a quick bit of edging work make a difference :)

Bathgate, minnow come later. Mine come in April here.

Sheila, I do like the shape of that flowerbed in the lawn. I can't copy it as have no lawn in the front! The Cyclamen, Primroses and Snowdrops will all bulk out in time ... enjoy them!

Very attractive Sheila, nothing lifts the spirits more than the sight of our spring bulbs and flowers coming out, I too like the shape of the bed and if this lovely weather stays with us they 'll soon fill out and spread themselves around for you..

Thank you very much, Shirley and Lincs. We made a similar shaped bed in our old back garden, and I like it too. I think we called it the “teardrop”. Hopefully you’ll both be right and the plants will spread :)

I created a new bed last year, and put in lots of spring bulbs and plants as well as summer perennials. The spring plantings are now really doing their stuff. You are going to love your spring garden. It will gladden your heart as winter loses its grip. X

Yes . . . thanks Julia . . . good to hear you’ve had a similar project and it’s successful :))
