November 2019

Just a short walk around the garden on a gloomy November morning. We have one slight problem – which is a big tree next to our fence (it’s in a small car park) and ALL its leaves get blown into our garden! We sweep and we blow, but there are always more . . .

Our favourite Acer, Osakazuki

Great White Cherry (Prunus Tai Haku)

Cercis canadensis Forest Flame, with Cosmos – the pink flowers have been peeping through the leaves all summer, a happy accident :)

Eupatorium

And now that I’ve come indoors, the sun has come out – of course!

Your garden looks lovely, I love to see all the autumnal colours but not the leaves, they are a real pest to us as well from the green outside our house.

Thanks Marjorie - hope you have a lightweight leaf blower like us?!

Lovely autumn colour Sheila.

Thank you Kate ๐Ÿ™‚.

Our leaf sucker is heavy to handle, Sheila...or is it because I'm getting weaker?!!

3 Nov, 2019

Julia, we donโ€™t suck, we blow, and itโ€™s really lightweight, so very easy to use!

your garden is looking lovely. We too have many trees in the neighbours gardens and we do get a lot of those too.

Is it just me???? Sweeping up leaves and throwing them in the borders is just SO MUCH FUN!!!!

I could do it all day every day - maybe I should start a business.......ha-ha!

Ha ha Sunny...you would be in great demand! We have a leaf vacuum, but as said above, its a bit cumbersome. However, on a gravel area....essential kit.

Sheila, it looks great but I find these few weeks of November very trying. The fields here are standing in water yet again and all the flowers have been ruined with the frost followed by heavy and prolonged rain. My job this week is to get out there again and just cut everything down and accept it is over for another year. Then....out with the books, the crochet and the recipe books until April!

Lovely colours going on there Sheila, and one of my favourite small trees, the Cercis what a fantastic display.

Thank you so much Eileen, Sunny, Karen and Julien! Yes itโ€™s an in-between time of year . . as the poet says โ€œNo sun, no moon, no proper time of day, No-vember :(

Canโ€™t remember his name, but itโ€™s a poem I can sympathise with, when I read all the words ๐Ÿ™‚

I think fallen leaves look pretty in other people's gardens but just look a mess in ours!!!
It IS a beautiful acer.

Found the poem ... โ€œNo!โ€ by Thomas Hood ... very apt.

The garden looks lovely regardless of the fallen leaves. It's an ill wind and all that, fallen leaves = leaf mould, but you do have to pick them up!

4 Nov, 2019

Thank you Honey! Picking up involves bending, and unfortunately even that leaves me short of breath . . . however, luckily my energetic gardener is about to arrive :)

A lovely walk around your garden Sheila, So interesting to see all your shrubs.
I'm sorry you're having a problem with the leaves from that tree. They make such a mess don't they โ€ฆ At least it's only for a few weeks in the autumn. Maybe you could make leaf mould from them like I do with the leaves from the hedgerow :)

Thanks Hywel ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

So much leaf mulch can only mean a vibrant garden next year and your is this year.

I really enjoyed that Sheila, you've some very pretty shrubs shining bright for you, just love the leaves of the Cercis. Is that a cold frame by your pergola?
I don't mind November myself, the first week usually being the brightest for autumn colour, cosy evenings and only 6 weeks to the nights drawing out again!...:))

Thanks Paul ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for your lovely comment Janey - good to see you. Yes, thatโ€™s my sturdy little cold frame made from cedar wood: very useful. :))
