Apologies!

I don’t quite know how else to do this, but I just want to say “so sorry” to members who have asked me things that I haven’t replied to.

Please don’t feel sorry for me, but the explanation is that I’m feeling a bit wonky and wobbly after an eye operation which has left me TEMPORARILY with minimal sight in my left eye. We had to go to Moorfields eye hospital four times in five days (I know how to have fun!) before organising the op. It is the same eye from which I had a cataract lens removed in October, so it won’t be until about February before I can have a new lens put in. Luckily I can read and do crosswords (essential) with my right eye.

So I cannot take photos, but I can enjoy yours, and so I’ll be looking in to Goy every now and then and no doubt making comments. I have been told to take things easy, so will be reading gardening books, ordering seeds, and looking forward to Spring!

All the best to everyone, Sheila

Sheila, I really appreciate you bringing us up to speed on your operation. I've noticed your absence and wondered about you keeping on the down low. So sorry to hear about your eyesight and hope this operation with be the last. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a successful & speedy recovery. Spring will be here quick. All the best to you!

Bless, hope you’re doing ok, Sheila? It must be quite an anxious time for you. I do hope the up and coming op will be the best outcome for you and get you back on track vision wise. Keep well, best wishes, kate x

Oh heck Sheila. Hopefully all will be well in good time, but for someone who enjoys reading etc. like you it's a real frustration. I can't imagine this will be easy for you to endure, but you sound really positive and upbeat, so good for you! :) we will all have to take lots of photos to keep you interested over the winter. I've just ordered a load of 'rockery' tulips for my Rosy Patio Border, so I'm looking forward to a really stunning display in the spring...just have to get them all planted now!

Thanks Julia - you’re so right - a good time of year for me to be inactive.

Paul, thank you for such thoughtful comments. Today I could see a tiny blurred bit from the eye, so it really is beginning to recover. Bless you.

Kate, thanks, yes it’s been scary, and I’m not good at being patient, but I’m having a good rest.

Thank you so much Karen, for your kind words. I couldn’t manage without OH who helps put in eye drops several times a day and has made a chart to keep track of them 🙂

Oh Shelia you never said you were feeling wobbly - never mind its all getting better from now on, just hang on in there. I had a letter re mine this week and have to wait for the best part of a year, so we won't be recovering together.
Thank goodness you can still do crosswords anyway! Great that you're beginning to see a bit- will you still go the book group? Blessings on your OH!
By the time the spring flowers need admiring things should have improved a lot.

sorry to hear you are below par. But heartening to hear that you are improving. Enjoy browsing all the plant sites, catalogues and blogs on here. gentle hugs from me.

Sue, is the op you’re waiting for a cataract op? My evening book group was on Wednesday so I had to give that a miss as I need to keep my head still, but next Friday I’ll go to the other one - held in the morning (with coffee and cake!) and friends will give me a lift.

Yes, Spring will be here more quickly than we imagine. Thanks for your encouragement 🙂.

Hi Sheila ..
hoping your eyesight is okay again soon ...
Not easy having to cope with difficulty seeing small-print etc. x x x

Thank you Eileen, particularly for the gentle hugs 🙂🙂

Thanks Terra, you’re right ... sometimes I use a handy magnifying glass!

Sheila I'm sorry you had to have that operation but glad your inability to see properly is only temporary :)
Take care, your eyesight is very important.

Wishing you well and I hope your recovery period is successful. Your eye sight is so important.

Sending you a PM Sheila

I can empathise with you Sheila,as it's not easy, trying to do things with an eye problem, albeit a temporary one..but I'm pleased they can do something about it.I feel lucky, that I had cataracts removed from both eyes two years ago,and although I only had central vision in one anyway,I feel more 'balanced ' if you know what I mean ! lol..Stay positive, which it seems that you already are,and enjoy your gardening books, crosswords etc..you can plan your next season for your lovely garden..xx

Take care of that other eye, please don't over do your reading. My thoughts are with you now and when you get your new lens.

16 Nov, 2019

Get well soon Sheila, spring will be here in next to no time, and you will be able to get in the garden and catch up on things, take care and best wishes.

Oh dear Sandra, sorry to hear you have had similar problems. I now have a tiny bit of vision in my left eye, but that makes me feel even more wonky. I’m grateful though to know that things are improving.

Thanks very much Siris, yes I shouldn’t overwork my one good eye.

Thank you Julien, that’s right, just one day at a time, and Spring will be here before we know it 🙂.

Going to read your PM now Sue!

Very sorry to read that you have had eye trouble and that you have spent a lot of time at the eye hospital.

Wise words have been written already about not overdoing things so I would like to echo those.

Take lots of care. I shall be thinking of you.
xx

Best wishes for your speedy recovery Sheila.

Everything has been said Sheila take care of yourself take time out to relax and plan for next year ,you'll be roaring to go when your fit and well again , x

17 Nov, 2019

Sheila I do feel your frustration and fully understand what you mean by wonky, I had trouble a few years back, I found steps, kerbs and traffic very frightening and losing people in crowds wasn't good either, spend as much time relaxing as you can, best time of the year for staying put Sheila, it will seem a long wait for you but keep your spirits up, hoping all goes well and you are back to seeing, fighting fit and raring to go next springtime. x

17 Nov, 2019

Oh dear Sheila x

17 Nov, 2019

Many thanks to Chris, Thorney, Amy, Lincs and Dawn for your sympathetic understanding. Yes, I’m very wary of steps and (currently) slippery leaves, so I take a stick and - when possible - a husband to hang on to.

Next appt at Moorfields on Thursday when I hope to be told I no longer need to wear an eye guard at night, a better night’s sleep would be a great help!

17 Nov, 2019

Fingers crossed Sheila x

17 Nov, 2019

Tightly crossed Dawn - thanks. x

Thinking of you Sheila, take great care, there's nothing spoiling now it's winter is there, so keep warm and cosy and be waited on by hubby..:)) lots of love X

18 Nov, 2019

Oh ,those dratted Eye Shields ! I had forgotten about those :o( I'm sure you will sleep much better without them,Sheila..fingers crossed you will be be able to be without them on Thursday night..I'm afraid I was a bit naughty, with the 2nd one ,and stopped before the recommended date. Don't follow my example though ! xx

18 Nov, 2019

Aw Janey, many thanks, that’s right - it’s a good time of year to sit around and not do much at all. I’ll be tempted to write my Christmas cards any day now . . . 🙂 lots of love to you too xx

Thanks Sandra - the guards are a good thing to wear when seeing people though - helps to remind them that you’re a bit wonky!

18 Nov, 2019

I don't blame you Sheila, then you don't have to think about them later..:))

18 Nov, 2019

Janey, we’re doing our best not to think about Christmas at all this year (apart from sending cards). We’ve booked a cottage with a log fire on the Isle of Wight to escape the festivities and socialising 🙂. You’ll understand. xx

19 Nov, 2019

Oh Sheila, I do understand. i hope the cottage will give you the peace and calm you both deserve...X

19 Nov, 2019

Thank you, Janey, bless you. x

19 Nov, 2019

Oooo, a cottage with a log fire over Christmas sounds idyllic, enjoy the peace and quiet Sheila and hopefully the weather will be kind too. It sounds the perfect way to recover from your last operation and prepare for the next. Are there audio gardening books that you can make use of, that might take the pressure of your right eye? We shall have to look to our laurels, with so much planning and ordering of seeds your garden will be sooo bountiful next year, GoY will be reeling!! ;-) Take care and have a lovely Christmas and New Year .... and be sure to keep us posted on your progress too.

27 Nov, 2019

Thanks Xela . . . but I think you might be a bit over-optimistic about my planning abilities. Good idea though, to start thinking about Spring.

27 Nov, 2019

Escaping Christmas sounds great - but hopefully this won't include Christmas lunch...
A log fire sounds very tempting, and with your fantastic OH to look after you - wow! Hope everything goes according to plans and expectations!

27 Nov, 2019

Thanks Sue. Not sure what we’ll do about Christmas lunch - the local pubs are likely to be full and noisy . . . we might just have to join in!
