Leaves

Does anyone ever send cards at Christmas that are not Christmassy? I’ve just been playing with these autumn leaves, and am tempted, probably because I’m an idiot! I’m not sure if I care what people think …
I’d be interested to know what you think?
Thanks.

Thanks Julia, yes, I usually manage to make a card myself, but having done so for nearly 20 years it’s difficult to think of something original. Good luck with your hard.
Shirley you’re right, robins are very commonly depicted - strange as you say. I think I might take your advice … or possibly dig out one that was used many years ago and rely on shaky memories like my own!

I cant see any reason why, we send ones with motorbikes on them and sometines quilts.

It would be a change at least from seeing so many "Dickensian" ones as they very rarely ever correspond to the winters we have experienced!
How many of us have ever experienced knee-high snow at Christmas? I certainly have never experienced it for myself in 7 decades! 😀
I'd say "Go ahead & ring the changes"! 😀

Thanks for your comments Eileen and Balc 🙂.

Balcony, I can remember making snow tunnels and igloos from snow. I can also remember safely skating on ponds frozen over with thick ice. The temperature back then must have been lowered from all the thick smoke in the atmosphere blocking the sun produced from burning cities, towns, villages, oil tankers and cargo ships from world wars 1 and 2. Since all that smut has cleared out of the air things have warmed up a bit to get that kind of snow and ice. I can think of nothing better than to receive a personalized hand made card from family or friend. It is a wonderful gift in and of itself.

Well said Loosestrife.

Thank you Klahanie … I think you deserve a hand made card. Perhaps I will find your address somewhere!

It's a beautiful card, Sheila. I think it's the gesture and the message that's important.

Thank you Kate, I’m sure you’re right.
Aww, thanks Klahanie 🙂.

I love cards with meaning to them and a handmade card is something special, I like it Sheila, it is the thought that counts, sadly my list gets smaller each year, not unexpected at my age, I also find that many do not actually send out cards now, they post online, very often saying they are donating to a charity instead, the postage puts people off, with the strikes this year they might not get through anyway so I think even more will doing it via the internet...

I was at the post office today, and was suddenly offered Christmas stamps. So I thought Oh, OK, while I’m here, so that’s it - I’m committed to sending cards now 🙂.

If I received a card like that first one I would save it and perhaps even frame it. Its perfectly beautiful. It would look great as embroidery too.

I agree with everyone!
It is much more personal to make your own and the ones you have shown us were lovely.
Great idea Sheila!

I agree too, and you've painted a beautiful card there Sheila. I love the colourful autumn leaves and the little bird there on the branch. It's very simple but effective, and has an almost Japanese quality about it.
It's smashing! x

Sue, thank you, you’re very kind. I’m encouraged to take it along to the print shop 🙂.
Thanks Rose!

I'm happy just to receive cards now in view of the cost of postage! I agree with what has been said here, the more personal, the better the card.

Aww, bless you Janey for your lovely comments. Perceptive too as the picture is inspired by a book called A Haiku Garden 🙂. Thank you! x
Many thanks Ange 🙂.

A home made card is always special and very precious. It will bring joy and great pleasure to whoever receives it.
I love to see the autumn leaves.

Thank you Chris … I really hope I can print this, but went to Prontaprint this afternoon and found the business had closed down 🙁. Such a shame!

Why is nothing quite the same as it was? It is such a shame? I hope another company can do it for you.

Thanks Chris.

I always appreciate a home made card & yours is lovely. Cards don’t always need to be Christmassy in the traditional sense. I wouldn’t like to receive my cards on e mail though. I like them to come through the door & anyway, how could I put them on display? They are the only dec I have apart from a rack of artificial candles.

That’s true - thanks Josee.

When I was in the Far East I would get cards that were blank inside but had embroidered scenes on the front. Made the best Xmas cards!

Sounds lovely Wylie!

OH has now bought some card and managed to print this for me … I hadn’t known it was possible!

Sheila, I notice many Christmas cards with Robins on, yet, to me, they don't suggest it's Christmas! Go on, be radical this year and send just what you find appealing. Would you like my address? Ha, ha! :o))
