RHS Rosemoor visit end of August 2015
18 comments
We recently had a 5 day break in Devon, the weather was changeable but we were pleased to have a fine and dry start to our visit to this beautiful RHS garden.
They were celebrating the 150th anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with plenty of activities for the children.
We watched some of the North Devon Falconry birds of prey flying, including this handsome Eagle Owl, described as being ‘thick as two short planks’ and a pain to train! It soon became obvious just how much his trainer cared for him though.
We walked from there to a little Tearoom, just had a latte, no cream tea as we knew that was available later in the day, more of that later in the blog! Wonderfully maintained grass and trees.
Grasses featured in a few of the borders and beds …
We made our way across to the Rose garden and remarked how much has grown since our last visit in 2011. The rope swags were barely concealed then and I’m sure the Clematis were a lot lower!
We left the Rose garden in search of the hot flower beds … what a treat was in store … just look at the colours in there!
Just time to read this sign before heading to the plant sales area …
There were masses of Butterflies feeding on the plants in the sales area …
We left and drove up to the Dartington Glass factory where we were due to meet up with some GoY friends in the afternoon.
It was a real pleasure to have finally met up with some GoY friends. We enjoyed a Devon cream tea and, I hope, one anothers company!
The time to get back on the coach came all too soon.
So, until we meet up some other time, happy gardening to you all!

I think it should be Rosemary and Thyme Bloomer ! Hahaa!
I found out from Chris that you were going to meet up !
I'm pleased you all had a lovely time together Shirley ! I wish I'd been there too !
I loved your "walk" round the gardens. They were all so beautiful ! The hot flower beds were amazing and the rose garden has given me an idea on putting ropes across from my conservatory to my arch ! Well...ideas and actually doing it ...doesn't always work ! Something to think about when winter comes !

I am pleased everyone is enjoying the visit to Rosemoor ... I told Chris if I were lucky enough to live close by (as she does) I would visit the garden each and every week!
Sandra, we were more like 'Dumb & Dumber' at times! We knew you were in Barnstaple on Tuesday morning, but couldn't imagine trying to find you!
Rose, don't do it, your arch, or worse, the conservatory, might fall down with the weight of it all ... lol!

We had our heads down most of the time,Shirley,as it rained all morning,so I would probably have walked past you anyway ! Lol..We weren't impressed really..but the afternoon in Dunster was wonderful..and warm and sunny..
Not so back in Lynmouth,so we were very lucky :o)

A beautiful selection of photos of Rosemoor Shirley and I am glad you liked it there so much. The 'hot' garden looks magnificent.
It is a really lovely place to visit throughout the whole of the year. My husband's sister gives him RHS membership as his birthday present so we do go there a lot. I love it there no matter what the season is!
It was a very special afternoon when we all met up and I am so pleased that it happened!! Lovely memories.
Here's to the next time :-)

Excellent blog. Thank you for the lovely photography.
Maybe people could blog when they are going to an open garden like this next summer, date and time, for local members to go along and meet up ?

Ah yes! The covert operations came off Shirley! Well done. Isn't it amazing how colourful the late perennials are! They put the rest of the garden into the 'shade'. Lovely to see you all together! :)

Glad you liked Rosemoor, Paul, it is a long drive but so worth it.
Kathy, shame about your photos. It seems a problem on GoY and I can only turn my head sideways so often ... :o)
