From bud to bloom

This clump of Nerines are flowering beautifully now … just hope the temps. don’t drop too low.

They thrive on neglect in my garden … no special treatment given!

They are great - so dainty but tough with it! They are doing well in the open too - here they need a little bit of shelter from the strong qwinds.Mine have been in the same container for years and have doubled from the original from half dozen. They are always something to look forward to before winter sets in aren't they?

Stera, I did wonder if they may have suffered during any heavy rains earlier in the year, obviously not!

Thanks Balcony and Janey ... :o))

Very pretty aren't they. I've never seen them in bud before. I must get some for next year.

Good thinking Hywel - I must do the same:)

Hywel and Sheila, if you do get some Nerine bulbs remember not to plant them deep! Leave the neck of the bulb just above the soil.

Thanks Shirley - I wouldn’t have known that.

Dawn ... They give lovely bright colour for Autumn.

Shirley, I’ve shy’d away from them as they’re tender I believe?

N. bowdenii, which I believe are the ones I have, are said to withstand temps as low as minus 15C. They like a sunny, well drained spot, the base of a South facing wall is ideal. Mulch them in the first year to protect from frost.

Stera commented hers have been in the same container for some years and have doubled from the original half dozen!
