Mesh for flower pots
9 comments
Having seen Adam Frost on Gardener’s World singing the praises of circular nylon mesh for deterring slugs and snails in pots, I would like to know if any GoY folk have ever used them.
I am becoming increasingly annoyed at finding the critters in and/or under/within the pots, even found a fat slug in the greenhouse recently attached to the base of a pot!
I have tried adding a link but it’s not showing, perhaps Google nylon mesh for flower pots!
I look forward to any comments about this item.

Shirley, you are missing a part of the link & so it doesn't work. Sound's like an interesting idea even though I have little trouble from the critters on the balcony. Having said that though there have been many more slugs on the balcony this years than I've seen in the 20+ years I've gardened on this balcony! I can't remember having see any snails at all! Years ago I couldn't grow the Amaryllis on the balcony without the snails eating the leaves - even though they were on the balcony table & not on the floor!

Eileen, I have edited this blog now as the link is just so very long!
David, it has definitely been a dreadful last few months for the plants as so many slugs and snails were around.

It's definitely a good idea Shirley ... I have always used mesh in my bonsai pots and have never had a slug in them.

I use mesh also Shirley and also copper tape round my pots, and no slug attack, or have I just been lucky?

Callie, it sounds like you know just how to repel the critters!

I use off cuts of the green mesh I use for shading on my greenhouses in summer. It stops all sorts getting into the bottom of pots.

That's a great idea. I opened up the 'Dalek' composter this morning and was annoyed to find two ugly green slugs within the lid ... they are now in the brown bin.
