The Back Garden June Ist 2016

Despite being a cold and dull day, on this the 1st of June, the garden is looking colourful. Looking out through the conservatory window, whilst doing this blog.

And looking a little to the left.

The old pergola that I reinstated:-

With Clematis ‘Josephine’ on one leg, moved from the front garden last Autumn as she was getting hot and flustered.

And a new flower of Clematis ’Multi Blue on another leg

And a fading flower

Clematis ‘Piilu’ on a third leg. Clematis ‘Hyde Hall’ still to open on the fourth.

The bird table has been moved from the back border to the garage border, and Sirus is now stood on a brick plinth instead of the old stump of Crataegus prunifolia.

The grass has been scarified, treated with weed, moss killer and fed. Just need to wait for some warmer weather to sit and relax on the seat under the pergola at the end.

Wow your garden looks fantastic !! Soooooo much colour already !

Thanks Vic, Siris statue is not that wee, used her for my avatar photo. That reminds me to change her corsage, whilst the Iris are still flowering.

What a beautiful garden

You have lovely colour but have also managed to vary the heights so well, in order to show off all the plants to their best!

Thank you Dan, The Crow liked the pond particularly.
Paul, I am always moving plants. Now I put new plants in the border, still in their pots, until I am sure they are in the right location. Josephine has been move 3 time before I was happy, hope she is now.

my type of garden

Gg, not bity, almost full to the brim, but a few places cleared for..... Guess what! There are marker sticks all over the place, so I don't dig up dormant things by mistake, that's the theory anyway.

Really beautiful!
I still haven't taken that photo - I wait for the sun to go off it and then forget...also been unwell this week. will try to do better...

Beautiful view from the conservatory, so much variety, love to see it like that, there's always a surprise waiting. Drifts of one colour look splendid in huge gardens, but I like this sort. With the weather we have had for the last couple of days, the conservatory is the best place to be, especially with a view like that!

Wow, so envious of your Clematis, so many flowers. Mine are dormant, lol, as ever, Im always weeks behind.
Your garden looks great, so much colour and plants.
Can I ask what the plant is in your third picture, to the right, grey, spikey and tall, could be Cardoon? Love it.

Honeysuckle, I think if I had a big garden, I could not manage with mostly herbaceous perennials. I could not cope with the work, it would have to be more shrubs.

Dawn, yes I think you call edible Artichokes, cardoons up north. There is actually one flower head already nestling in the middle, think I had 6 last year from one plant. These Clematis are named varieties, but I do have several large flowered ones that I grew from seed, and several small flowered Viticellas.

It looks so lovingly tendered looks beautiful.

Fantastic garden. Lots going on there.

Looking forward to seeing more pics of your clematis.

Been looking in my book and there is Cynara cardunculus (cardoon) and Cynara scolymus (globe artichoke) I prefer the latter, like yours, the leaves are nicer.

2 Jun, 2016

Dawn, the Artichoke head is now visible above the foliage, I will take a photo when it is in flower. The bottom leaves turn yellow early, so I cut off the untidy ones, just keeps the plant neater.

Thanks Siris, will be good to see.

You have a beautiful garden, it makes you feel better on a dull day if one is looking out on such a delight of colours, your planting is so good and definitely my kind of garden, I cannot see any spaces for you to put anything, lol...I always wondered where you got your avatar from and what it was connected to....

3 Jun, 2016

It is looking even better than when we came over, envious of all the colour you have there, ours is very green with the odd splash of colour...... beautiful Siris.......

Lincslass, I originally sellotaped a broken off Iris head to the statue, almost forgot to do one this year, although I have broken off several myself by mistake.

Homebird, in the first photo, between the spotted 'mushroom' pot and the bridge is your Blue pond Iris, the flower finished, it was a lovely blue.

I don't think I have ever seen so many different beautiful plants in such a compact space...and still room for a bit of lawn! Agree with comments above that you have them perfectly placed so you can enjoy them all, and that has obviously been your big challenge. It must be a haven for bees. Wonderful!

Thank you Karen, I have made loads of mistakes, still am. Put my new Potentillas from seed at the front of the border, but the flower stalks have extended and extended and come Autumn I will move back a bit. Also don't do straight nor do level!

26 Jun, 2016

No, nor me Siris. Straight, I have to tolerate a little of, but level bores me rigid!

26 Jun, 2016

But I level photos and pictures on walls by eye, not only mine but other folks. ( that is those I know well who won't be offended)

26 Jun, 2016

Sorry Sue.....read that comment a few times but I can't quite make out what you mean....sorry :S

26 Jun, 2016

Hi Karen

I think Siris means if she popped around to your house and the picture needed straightening she would

I may be wrong , but thatS how I have read it

Gg

26 Jun, 2016

Oooooh Yeeeees! I get it now! lol! I get tempted to do that as well, and I also pull weeds out of other people's gardens!

26 Jun, 2016

I feel if the baskets or pots are dry !!!

26 Jun, 2016

Gnarly has that meaning correct. I went to dottyd's friends' super garden and wanted to dead head their Papaver pods, but if someone touched my selected Iris seed pods, well I would ........them.

26 Jun, 2016

lol! I know what you mean! The worst thing is when you do these things without thinking and then its very embarrassing! :)
