GONE Potty!!

GONE Potty!

My second foray went to plan
And in my car I went
To Garden Centres far and wide
A whole day out I spent!

At Garden Centre number one
With crowds of people there,
Santa’s grotto was the lure -
And parking space was rare!

Did they have pots? I’d have to see -
But first avoid the queue
Of children waiting in a crush
But pots? Oh, just a few!

Outside the air was really chill
At Garden Centre second
The fog was hanging thick and still
But yet – the pots, they beckoned!

I took a lot of photos there
I saw some pots all brown -
Would this one do for me, or that?
It almost made me frown!

A patterned one, a coloured?
No – none of them appealed.
So off I went back in the car
Now all will be revealed!

I found a place – I looked inside -
I fell for one or two!
It really was a ‘potty heaven’ -
Oh, now what should I do?

At home my husband looked with me
At photos on the screen
He liked the one I’d chosen -
The last one that I’d seen.

So off today we went again
Back up the motorway;
And aren’t I just the lucky one -
I’ve two for Christmas Day!!

Well, they did give us a discount! :-))))))

12 Dec, 2009

They look very large, it will be interesting to see what goes in them :)

12 Dec, 2009

I have a Pieris 'Flaming Silver' in mind for the square pot, with white Erica and the other one will be planted with lots of plants - seasonally!

Yes, Gee, they are indeed large! :-))))

12 Dec, 2009

They might be 'large'
for all of GoY to see,
But you won't find one large enough
To hide the whole of ME.

These look brilliant Spritz, Congrats on finding them. :~)))

Why you might want to hide me in a pot I'm not sure but at least it rhymes!

12 Dec, 2009

Clap, clap, clap! :-)))

You'd be surprised at one I saw, Ian - you could have hidden in there - it was HUGE - and a price tag to match - how about £350?? I walked away. :-(

12 Dec, 2009

I don't blame you, I think I might have RUN away or at least hobbled fast! Lol

12 Dec, 2009

I can't wait to see them wrapped in paper with a big ribbon under your Xmas tree

12 Dec, 2009

LOL. Husband asked if we had enough wrapping paper!

12 Dec, 2009

they are stunning spritz, so worth the wait.

12 Dec, 2009

I'm glad you all approve - they're a bit 'different', aren't they! :-)))

12 Dec, 2009

Lucky you, are you allowed to plant them up now ?

12 Dec, 2009

Not sure - they're still in the back of the car at the moment!

We've got to work out how much compost to buy - I need ericacious for the square one.

12 Dec, 2009

They are really nice Spritzhenry.

12 Dec, 2009

Pots that size will be wasted on flowers, what you need is a couple of decent conifers :0)))

12 Dec, 2009

a lovely choice Spritz :)))))

13 Dec, 2009

Thanks, Mavis & Grindle - and BS.....you know that I DO grow conifers already. :-))

I really, really want a Pieris!!!!!!!!

13 Dec, 2009

Just teasing Barbara :0)

13 Dec, 2009

Super pots - you should try a bit of amnesia in them so you have a surprise on Christmas morning.

13 Dec, 2009

lovely pots..... and poem of course.....

13 Dec, 2009

Thanks, Holly.

What pots, Wagger?? ;-)

13 Dec, 2009

Glad we were able to tell you where to find the pots you wanted Spritz, and in our neck of the woods too! Our huge pots came from garden centre 'number one', but they havent stocked them for a while.
The outside area in both garden centres is also pretty good in the summer with a nice stock of plants.

So we have successfully added two more garden centres to your shopping list as well as TWO sources for good pots.... Look out birthdays and anniversaries as well as Christmas!

13 Dec, 2009

Brill pots Barbara just have to wait now to see what you put in them, looking forward to seeing them.

13 Dec, 2009

Very nice pots Spritz. I'm looking forward to see what treasures you will plant them with. :o)

13 Dec, 2009

You have indeed, Grenville! I'm hoping for vouchers from the family - so I shall be back spending them at some point in 2010!

Glad you like them Gilli. I shall post photos when they're 'in situ' and planted up. :-))

13 Dec, 2009

Do you know which pieris you're going to get spritz? I can recommend 'Little Heath'

13 Dec, 2009

I fancy 'Flaming Silver' Andrew - any comments?

13 Dec, 2009

Andrew, 'Little Heath' in one!, and 'Little Heath Green' in the other! :0))

13 Dec, 2009

Hey! Why can't I have MY choice?? I like the variegated one!

(I will check them out, though!)

13 Dec, 2009

LOL - excellent blog and excellent planters - itchy fingers now Spritzhenry?

14 Dec, 2009

Oh, Sprits! (sorry for the inversion, missing some words and other bad things, but it's for rhyme...:))

Love your poems, Spritzhenry,
They're honey for my mind.
And this one's not exception -
I've read... it's really fine!

The pots are very lovely,
and shapes... and colours too.
I'm looking forward seeing
Where you'll put them to.

You've made your choice - Pieris,
It will be very good!
The second plant is Erica -
They'll both create nice mood.

14 Dec, 2009

:-))))))) Clap, clap, Uma! Thanks for the poetic comment!

'Flaming Silver' looks a good one. 'Little Heath' is also variegated and is smaller but the new growth is not so bright

14 Dec, 2009

Thanks, Andrew - I went to a Nursery to ask about a 'specimen' sized plant, and they SHOULD be able to source one in Feb/March. Fingers crossed, now! :-)))

14 Dec, 2009

Thanks for the poem and the pictures Spritz. I like your choice of pots.

15 Dec, 2009

That's good, Toto! I'm not taking them back....;-)

15 Dec, 2009

Lovely pots, can recommend Little Heath also Flaming Silver we grow several Pieris in the garden, have created an acid soil for them, dont know all the names as they came with us from the old house.
So glad you found what you were looking for, will look forward to seeing what you eventually decide to put in them...

15 Dec, 2009

I'm glad you like 'Flaming Silver', Dd. I'm hoping that the Nursery can get a specimen shrub for me, so it doesn't look silly in the very large pot. Husband now has the task of working out how many bags of ericacious compost will fill it!

15 Dec, 2009

That size will take a fair few, Pieris do very well in pots.

15 Dec, 2009

Good - thanks, Dd. I was hoping it would be the right choice! :-))

15 Dec, 2009

Whatever you plant in them will be the right choice Spritz, as long as its YOUR choice! :~))
Wagger, how do you grow amnesia in pots?? A small dose could come in handy now & again!!

15 Dec, 2009

That's easy to come by, Marie - it's called having 'senior moments'! Happens all the time to me. LOL.

15 Dec, 2009

Yeah, but if you grew it, you could have selective amnesia!! :~))
I've got a lousy memory anyway! Lol!

15 Dec, 2009

Google - amnesia haze for seeds, LOL New plant to me!!!

16 Dec, 2009

Sounds good, Wagger! Lol!

16 Dec, 2009

OK. I'll be back!..........Hmmmmm....don't think I'll bother with those!

16 Dec, 2009

I don't think you should either Spritz! That was very naughty Wagger but hilariously funny :~)))))

16 Dec, 2009

I'd like to know exactly how Wagger knew what to look for, Ian! Tsk, tsk.

16 Dec, 2009

It's all Google's fault, teacher - not mine! ;-D)) (that's my double chin)

16 Dec, 2009

and it is a 'potty' blog.

16 Dec, 2009

Oooh! I get the blame now, do I? :-(((

16 Dec, 2009

Well done. They'll look lovely planted up.
