A walk on the wild side.

Not really – just a title! I just did what Toto suggested and took my camera this morning when Henry and I went out!

So – what was going on in the garden on our way out?

FROST – that’s what!

Oh well – I was well wrapped up, and Henry doesn’t mind what the weather’s like!

You can see from this view of the Quantock Hills across the village that there was a tiny fall up there a couple of days ago – but none fell on our coastal strip.

Come on! Why are you stopping? You said we were going for a walk!

Now where’s Henry gone?

He has to have a sniff around – there are badgers setts and rabbit holes along here! He loves chasing rabbits – not today, though.

Now what? Oh, I see – as usual, he’s looking for a stick!

Come on, Henry – leave that stick there! It’s too cold to hang around!

Henry! Henry!

He’s taking his time – he just has to drag his stick home!

Well – at least I get to look at the Centranthus still in flower in the wall by the lane.

It was so slippery along our lane – there’s a ford, and people drive through it too fast, so the water splashes up and freezes – the lane surface is like an ice-rink. Scary!

Thank goodness – there’s my gate trough! We’re home.

Lovely to take this walk with you and Henry, Spritz. Hope his stick arrived home safely! I ventured out with Chloe this morning but the pavement was very slippery and her legs were going everywhere. Trying to support her on her harness I slipped myself - my dignity was damaged more than anything else :)

Have a lovely Christmas.

It's nice to see the Centranthus still flowering .... we have always called it Uncle Billy's weed ... because he gave us a piece years ago and called it a weed ... he wasn't an uncle really , we just called him that .......

I bet the house felt warm and cosy when you went indoors !

That's a lovely walk Spritz. The Quantock hills are beautiful whichever season we're in. :~)))

Your walk was lovely..! Valerian? Is it the herb? The area you live in reminds me of Southern Washington, where I grew up. We had lots of frosty mornings/days there. I thought it such a treat to go our in the very early morning in my slippers and robe to call in the dogs..I can still feel the crunch of the heavy frost under my slippered feet.

Another nice walk did henry get his stick back home?

24 Dec, 2009

I love this countryside ..it is so peaceful..
I wish to You and all members of GOY Merry Cristmas and Happy New Year... :-)

Awwww, and to think we were all sweltering in Australia

27 Dec, 2009

No, Mavis - not this time, as it was so big that he kept dropping it. I had a 'lose' it over a gate!

Thanks Anrea...:-))

Yes, Pip - we could do with a little sweltering here - the forecast is for more cold weather!

27 Dec, 2009

Its lovely to walk in the frost with the dog when you're all wrapped up. Bonnie loves to chase rabbits too, of course she wouldnt know what to do if she caught one. Your pansies have done well in this cold weather, they look very smiley :-)

29 Dec, 2009

That is a very odd thing, Dawn - they are the ones that kept getting eaten by the birds! Now they're being left alone, and doing really well...which is more than I can say for some of the others. :-((

29 Dec, 2009

Its lovely to see them looking so healthy - mine look pretty sick at the moment.
Do you keep dead heading Spritz, silly question really, of course you do :-) Do you wait until the flower has shrivelled?

29 Dec, 2009

Yes - I try not to let them set seed. Oh dear - the rest look awful! I am not at all sure they'll survive. :-((

29 Dec, 2009

Its sad when you put the effort in and expense and things dont do as well as expected - I guess that's gardening though. Our bulbs will come to the rescue hopefully soon :-)

29 Dec, 2009

You are joking, Dawn??? We've been invaded by what we think were very hungry squirrels - they've dug up and removed every single tulip bulb I planted! We don't normally get squirrels in the garden - so how did they know? Grrrrrrrrrrrr.........

29 Dec, 2009

That's not funny is it. All the work and money that goes into it plus the planning. Oh dear, naughty squirrels.

29 Dec, 2009

That was the concensus, anyway - I asked a question on GOY as I was very puzzled. 50 bulbs from the wooden boxes, and couple of dozen tiny specie ones from the borders. :-(((

29 Dec, 2009

I would have thought you would have seen the squirrel robbing them though, that's alot of bulbs ..... maybe you could detract him next year and put peanuts in their shells down for him - I do that so they dont wreck my peanut feeders.

29 Dec, 2009

Neither of us saw any animals at all, Dawn - and no - I can't put peanuts out, as 'guess who' would eat them! LOL.

He would bark if an animal was in 'his' garden during the day. Overnight, he's in the kitchen at the back, so he wouldn't know.

30 Dec, 2009

Oh yes, forgot about Henry - during the cold weather Bonnie knows there's food on the ground for the birds - she keeps pretending she wants to go out for the toilet, lol. I dont think she has realised there's food in the shells yet though.
Its all very mysterious isnt it.

30 Dec, 2009

Yes, and very, very annoying, Dawn. I shall have to do what I did last year - wait for a while and then try Lidl's - they had small pots of bulbs that I put in. More expense, though, of course.

30 Dec, 2009

Thought you would come up with an alternative :-) Like you say, very frustrating though.

31 Dec, 2009

I can't believe what I found this morning! Several plants have been uprooted, in the area where I planted a whole lot of crocus corms. I've put them back, but I doubt if they'll survive. :-((

31 Dec, 2009

I would be devastated, what a shame. How do they know the bulbs/corms are under the ground. A solution to the problem is difficult, isnt it. Hope the plants pull through.

31 Dec, 2009

Thanks, Dawn - it was two of those beautiful Tiarellas! I was NOT happy! I think it's by scent - how else? I wish they'd go away, though.

31 Dec, 2009

What a shame. Maybe CCTV ;-)
