"Patterns"

This might seem a strange set of photos…
However, I can blame Toto – he said I should always carry my camera with me!
Everything is frozen solid here after a series of hard frosts – the photos are of thick ice on puddles at the side of the fields where I walked Henry yesterday.
I was fascinated by the shapes and patterns I saw.
Take a close look! I think you will marvel at them, too………..
Isn’t Nature wonderful?
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Fascinating pics Barbara. Nature gives us such interesting things to look at if we only take the time to notice them doesn't it?

I love them, fascinating, thank you for sharing with us!
24 Dec, 2009
You are so artistic to even think of photographing those ice puddles etc.
In fact they are good enough to be in the Tate - on second thoughts, they are more artistic than many things in the Tate!
What a wonderful subject and astoundingly beautiful too. Surprising where you can find beauty isn't it? Thank you Spritz.
Wishing you a very Happy Christmas.

Facinating Barbara! I love things like this! :-) It's pouring down with snow here tonight, so hopefully lots of lovely snowy pics tomorrow....if it doesn't turn to rain!
29 Dec, 2009
Lovely? Did you say LOVELY. Sid? You know I can't abide the white stuff! :-((((
30 Dec, 2009
What's wong with the white stuff? lol It did turn to rain unfortunately, so no LOVELY pics! It was minus 7 here this morning......my Nicotiana sylvestris I fear is no more...Brrrrrrrr....
Happy New Year Barbara :-)
4 Jan, 2010
I shall make no more comments about s**w, Sid. Well - unless we get some here, that is!
I'm sorry about your Nicotiana....I'm sure that we'll all have some casualties this time. :-((
Happy New Year to you, as well.
4 Jan, 2010
Got 4inches of s**w yesterday.....more forecast for Sunday....yippee!! ;-)
7 Jan, 2010
Well - we did and so I shall! Horrible stuff - got snowed in yesterday, and there's more to come at the weekend. YUK!! You are welcome to it ALL, Sid!
7 Jan, 2010
Yup - send it my way - it's SOOO pretty! Oh, and I finally got around to posting some pics - there's a blog for you to look at Barbara, as I know how much you love the s**w! LOL
7 Jan, 2010
Gee, thanks, Sid! You know who your friends are around here, don't you! ;-)
7 Jan, 2010
LOL
I bet Henry loves it :-)
8 Jan, 2010
It's frozen solid - so his paws look a bit sore to me. We're going to have to be careful where we take him for walks - maybe in fields where there isn't ice to negotiate. He isn't at all sure about walking on the snow - but 'going' for a walk is different He always gets very excited about that.
8 Jan, 2010
Maybe you could knit him some socks? ;-)
10 Jan, 2010
lol poor henry
hope his feet get better soon :)
10 Jan, 2010
No chance until the weather improves, I'm afraid! We're keeping an eye on his paws after every walk.
Sid - he would pull them off! He hates anything 'on' him, so a coat or socks or leather bootees would be a no-no!
10 Jan, 2010
Our springer Nellie she isnt here any more used to love the snow and ice but it gave her very sore paws too
She used to wimper after going to the shoot with her dad as all the brambles hurt her feet and then they got iced up too.
She used to have ice on the fur between her toes we used to get it off as it stays for quite a time
i am sure you have looked for that spritz but if you havent it makes them icey for longer.
10 Jan, 2010
He comes in, gets a rub-down with a towel, and then lies down and cleans up his paws - we have a look each day, but he is good at 'DIY' Vicky! LOL.
Thanks for the thought, though. xx
10 Jan, 2010
I think I heard that vasaline on the paws helps stop ice from sticking...?
11 Jan, 2010
LOL, Sid - he'd lick it off before he got to the door! He's a LAB. :-))))))))
Their other name is 'dustbins on legs'! Thanks for the thought, though - you are getting ingenious. :-))
11 Jan, 2010
Ok....ok.....well.....how about one of those lampshade contraptions - then he could have socks AND vasaline ;-)
11 Jan, 2010
.....and spend his time walking backwards!
12 Jan, 2010
He refused to wear one of those way back when he 'had the snip' - he managed to remove it, somehow!
Walk backwards, Wagger? What, with his nose firmly pointing down, as he does? LOL
Any more bright ideas? ;-)
12 Jan, 2010
I'm working on it...................
12 Jan, 2010
I bet! LOL.
12 Jan, 2010
I've got it! What about mixing the vaseline with chilli powder?
12 Jan, 2010
He would LOVE that! He likes curry - so chilli? A breeze! He'd just drink his bowl dry afterwrds. LOL.
Actually, he's due at the vet's next week for his pill - they are thorough and always check him over well. We'll ask about this one back paw that's obviously giving him trouble. He'll let us touch it without flinching and there's not much to see, so I am baffled. :-((
12 Jan, 2010
Hmmmm.........what about English mustard then? Must be something he doesn't like............?
12 Jan, 2010
I must admit that we don't have mustard, so he won't have tried that. I wonder? He doesn't like mushrooms or parsnips. That's about it!
12 Jan, 2010
Ah well there we go then Barbara - a solution! Knew we'd get there in the end ;-) Smear Henry's feet with a mixture of vasaline and mushrooms and/or parsnips. Yum, yum, yum........ ;-)
12 Jan, 2010
poor henry :(
12 Jan, 2010
What good will that do??????? Is it an ancient herbal anti-sore-paw remedy?? LOL.
12 Jan, 2010
I thought the vasaline would save his paws from the ice and the mushrooms/parships would stop him from eating it? Now, Barbara, I do hope you're not using Henry's sore paws as an excuse not to go out in the snow?! I'm sure that can't be it, as I KNOW how much you LOVE the snow! How much do you have now BTW? We had another dump of snow last night and this morning - it's on top of the old stuff and we've got about 5 inches out there now. Think it's thawing pretty quickly now tho.....what a shame!
13 Jan, 2010
No - honestly. Not an excuse - a real reason! I am still suffering from the bug I picked up at Christmas - I have such pain in my sinuses, that I have a scarf wrapped round my face. My lovely husband has been walking H. for me.
S**w? We had another lot last night - I couldn't tell you how much from in here - it looked quite a lot, but I think it's beginning to thaw a bit this evening. YAY!! It's apparently very slushy stuff on top of the ice - so it's slippery. No post again today. :-(((
13 Jan, 2010
Aww - poor you - big hug xx Yes, I think it's thawing a pace now. And you know what that will mean next don't you...........FLOODS! ....hmmm...happy thoughts now... ;-)
13 Jan, 2010
Yes - the nice BBC forecast man has just informed us that it's going to POUR with rain on Saturday - and that there will be 'localised flooding'. Well, it had better not be local to us, that's what I say about that! :-(((
