Where I used to line them up looks a little bare. I’ve been planting out anything that seems hardy enough. Less pots to water is my goal.
I haven’t posted many photo’s lately. Its been cool here and not really inspiring me to visit plant centers or gardens. Very local for supplys is it.
Its been a Cable car ride in the SF bay area as May began hot with 32C temps the first week…now for the last its going to be 20C and fog,and stiff breeze.
I hope everybody gardens are off and thriving and soothing the souls. Dogs and cats included.

It's good to organise your garden to suit your needs. Good luck :)

Even here in cloudy Norfolk the weather each year turns warmer and drier, so pots are something that will be restricted otherwise they tend to not get enough water and don't do their best. In the ground they can fend much better and it's easier to water when needed, so with your heat I don't blame you about cutting down.

Too many dry days can cause all sorts of problems for gardeners. Good luck with your plans.

I vant wait to see your new project Stan great idea getting rid of some pots saves on water bills as well. I always think less is more and looks better to.

I have been gradually reducing the amount of pots I have too..I think I am satisfied with those that are left now..so much easier to manage, and less to water, deadhead etc.. We even finally got the loft cleared out of some that have been unused for a few years now...I haven't missed any of them ! :o)

There must be something in the air Stan - I've been thinking on the same lines too. seems we are all getting older together...

I went to 2 local nurserys...bought nothing. I picked up this or that and put them down..and thought "More to water all summer in a pot". It wasn't a succulent.
I feel different now, after I would say 15 years of high activity. Many plants,trials..learning what is it I like and will last?
I would say at 40,you are shooting for best garden in the world...at 60,you want to enjoy results..and just add the occasional jewel.
What do you think?

That sounds about right, Stan, & yet on a good day ........ there I go again!

That was in May...I added a few more. But! I did grab a few more also and plant them.
I really am getting closer to changing my habits. In fact,I was thinking that my jungle in my small back yard should start to see dry plants mixed in. First time in about 35 years,I really do think of saying goodbye to the wet tropics part of my collection.

Nothing wrong with change, it keeps the interest going.

I was still starting on a new garden at 65, and that's 11 years ago so maybe I'm allowed to get a bit tired too...

Still lots of lawn to convert into beds but i don't think its going to happen! Still hankering after all the goodies in the catalogues though!

Good for you, Stera, so much depends on health & what your body & mind will allow.

I need to stick to climate appropriate plants. About this time of year, the amount of time watering tree ferns is far more then the dry climate plants. Also- the tree's in my back yard? Well,I dug up a struggling clump of Stromanthe- a type of large prayer plant, and I found that all through its root system was tree roots. More tree roots then the plant's roots. Thats a lot of compettion. IF I could go back in time,I would not have planted them. Too late, since the are large tree's and do make a nice green background. So,I think the best I can do is start to mix in shade tolerant dry plants. That's a hard category to fill.
