Typhoon HAGUPIT

For those who are concerned about our lovely GoY friend Junna who lives in the Philippines, just a quick update.

I’ve been keeping in touch with her over recent days.

She is not in the most vulnerable part of the region, and she and her daughter are safe.

Thankfully, so far, Typhoon Hagupit is not as severe as the typhoons which hit the Philippines last year.

She is well-stocked with food, and candles for the power cuts.

Their street has started to flood, but they are okay.

When I get more updates from Junna I’ll add to this blog

Keep strong, Junna. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all people and creatures in your region

Thank you Terra. Hope Junna will be ok, it's a terrifying spectacle. I had a pen friend in the Phillippines when I was at school. I was wondering about her last night when I saw the news.

Hi Karen ..
Thousands of people were evacuated to rescue centres. Not such a fierce typhoon as last year, but nevertheless, the footage on the TV news looks scary...
I hope your penfriend is safe.

Its always heartbreaking to watch news reports of a disaster whether caused by nature or manmade but since joining Goy and being in touch with people from all parts of the world it brings it home more and I'm thankful for living in a safe place .
Thankyou Terra for the update, pleased to hear Junna is safe, we can only hope and pray for their safety.....

Terra this was so thoughtful of you. It would be awful if the last disaster were to be repeated - its good to know that least Junna is prepared.

Hello Sue and Stera ..
Although any typhoon is a horrible experience, it is comforting to know that Hagupit is less severe than the 2014 typhoons ...

... and, also, the people of the Philippines were more organised this time and able to encourage many people to evacuate to rescue centres.

8 Dec, 2014

Thank goodness for that!

Hi Paul ... yes, last year's typhoon was called Haiyan, and struck in November, and the Philippines is still trying to recover from that disaster ...
.. so, yes, thank goodness Hagupit seems to be less intense.

Hi Derek and Carole ...
Junna is getting on to GoY now and then, but the TV news showed such dramatic pictures of the typhoon that I thought it best to reassure everyone :o)

Thank you Sheila ..

Thank you for the update TT. It is thoughtful of you to do that. I have pm'd Scottish. She has extended family in the area and I have been thinking and praying for both them and Junna. Junna did a lot to help the people who were in a bad way last time so I am very pleased she has been able to tell us that this disaster is not as bad this time. It is good news that Junna and her daughter are safe and coping well. We are fortunate to live in UK. The TV coverage did not say how well the country got over the last disaster before being hit again.

11 Dec, 2014

Thank you very much Scotsgran:-)

Hope you too is well and very fine :-)

13 Dec, 2014

Thank goodness you are all safe Junna, its difficult to imagine the conditions you put up with or how you can safeguard your homes against such happenings, we always say one cannot beat Mother Nature but have to live with what she throws at us, when I see what happens to others I am thankful for living here, I hope it stays calm now and that you all stay safe.....

13 Dec, 2014

Bless you Junna, hearing about your life makes us count our blessings. So glad you are now safe and well. Good luck with the cleaning!
