GET SET

The days are brief.
The nights are cold.
The final leaf
has turned to gold.
……………………………………………………………………..
Campanula …
… its damp bells chime …
… spectacular
in winter time.
……………………………………………………………………..
Our cameras
spot secret tubs …
… with heucheras,
and pretty shrubs.
……………………………………………………………………..
A firethorn shoot
burns flames of red …
… this luscious fruit
keeps robins fed.
……………………………………………………………………..
Each climber brings
a welcome sight.
The blossom clings …
serene and bright.
……………………………………………………………………..
Despite the storm
and icy showers,
viburnums form
bouquets of flowers.
……………………………………………………………………..
It’s chilly, wet …
with fog and haze.
We must get set
for colder days.
……………………………………………………………………..
A woollen hat
will look ornate …
… or, failing that …
… just hibernate !

Can I share your blanket Truffle?
26 Nov, 2014
The 'hibernate' bit appeals to me quite a lot Terra!
Stunning photos and I think your viburnum looks so lovely, is it scented too?
26 Nov, 2014
Hi Chris ... Thanks ..
I've just sniffed my viburnum in the dark and wet (Lol) and can't detect any scent, but I'll sniff again in daylight..
Thank you Pam ...
Truffle is hoping for a birthday knitted coat .. then he'll share his blanket .. ;o) x

Gorgeous poem and pics...one of your best yet Terra!

...oh, and how come that when the days are so short, they feel so LONG!? Hours and hours and hours indoors in the dark! Must get the paintbrushes out!
26 Nov, 2014
Love the rhyme Terra..... and Conkers hat made me smile.Could do with one of these for my Saturday afternoons at Welford Rd(a famous local Rugby ground!). Lovely pics as well :-))
26 Nov, 2014
Thanks Karen and Val ..
I started writing the verses in my head in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep.. Lol.
Must admit the days fly by me.... my dogs and budgie are wonderful company and we have such fun here :o)
That hat is rather large for Conker, but he said he wasn't keen to loan it out for any sports fixtures .. well, maybe the occasional tennis match ;o)

Great blog. Lovely clear photo of the robin. My V. Tinus has masses of buds but not a one open yet. No flowers on the Campanula either. Truffles always has the best idea. I don't like the long, dark evenings. Wish they wouldn't put the clocks back.
26 Nov, 2014
Hi Feverfew ... Thank you ... I agree with you about the clocks ...
... does your V. Tinus have scent ?
26 Nov, 2014
Thanks Truffle ......your coats keeping Me warm at the minute.......
So grey and dreich here nothing looks or smells nice.....looking forward to viburnum Dawn......

Lovely rhymes and the pictures Terra. Conker and Truffle always make me smile .
26 Nov, 2014
Ha ha is Truffle hiding so he does get a hat put on him!!!
Great blog Tt.
26 Nov, 2014
Thanks Paul ...
actually Truffle wanted to wear the hat too .. Lol.
Hi Linda and Klahanie ..
this winter, it looks like many British GoYers are voting for hibernation !
27 Nov, 2014
Lovely blog and great pics, Terra, especially that beautiful sunset!
27 Nov, 2014
Thanks Sheila. I hope my blog didn't make you feel too shivery after your visits to warmer climes !
27 Nov, 2014
Very clever and how you wax poetic! Enjoyed the blog very much.
27 Nov, 2014
Hi Paul ...
thank you ... I enjoy writing poetry, but only when I feel inspired :o)
27 Nov, 2014
Dull dark days, very depressing so I'm joining Truffle..
Great blog Terra, my little robin has disappeared so its nice to see yours...
27 Nov, 2014
Hi Sue ..
I think this robin might be a new young one ...
I hope your robin returns ....
27 Nov, 2014
Lovely poem and lovely pics too. How dapper Conker looks in his splendid new hat:-))
27 Nov, 2014
Lovely winter poem Tt! Gorgeous pics especially of Conker who looks to be saying "why have I got to wear it".....lol! yes Truffle has the right idea, I wish we could do the same and wake up in April!
27 Nov, 2014
Lovely poem TT, really celebrates this time of the year. I think tinus does have a perfume. So do Bodnatense and and Carlsei. They have a very delicate perfume.
27 Nov, 2014
Lovely poem with pictures to suit - so clever TT, Conker and Truffle have the right idea - keeping warm and snug when the cold wind blows.
Agree with Dorjac on Viburnums, Bodnatense leaves smell of smokey bacon when crushed so I think that is what Snoopdog is referring to.
Thank you for sharing your super poem in this delightful blog TT :o)
27 Nov, 2014
Hi Ba ... I'm pleased you like the poem and pics :o)
Thanks, Snoop for mentioning Viburnum bodnantense Dawn .. I have that shrub in my back garden, so I know it is a different variety of Viburnum to the one photographed above... so many types of Viburnum, aren't there !
Thank you, Janey ...
Actually Conker was really pleased to be wearing the hat, because Truffle was jumping about in the kitchen, wanting to be the one to wear it. Whichever item of doggie clothing I produce, they both want to wear it !
Hello Dorjac .. thanks for the extra info. re the Viburnums ... I shall be sniffing mine again when the sun (eventually) comes out !
Thank you Neena ...
We are certainly planning to hibernate this weekend, away from the bad weather and chaos at the shops and stores ! :o)
28 Nov, 2014
Another lovely blog, TT! :-)) How you manage to make up poetry like you do amazes me! I find it hard to get two words to rhyme let alone make up a whole blog using it!
It's amazing the things you get your dogs to do & how they patiently let you photograph them! Conker brought more than just a smile to my face! He looks fabulous! :-)) Truffle probably has the best idea - hibernate till the spring comes around!
That sunset photo was very, very good!!! :-))
28 Nov, 2014
Thank you Balcony ..
Must admit I have to be in the right mood to be able to put words and rhymes together ... I can't always do it...
When photographing my dogs individually, my main challenge is that there's always the other one, hovering in the background, wanting to be the one in front of the camera, trying on the hat ... so no shortage of eager volunteers ! :o)

Terratoonie, your poem about the comming bleak winter is dazzling! You have shown that even in the dimness one can find brilliance.
30 Nov, 2014
Wow !!! adorable and brilliant photos, Terra :-)))
30 Nov, 2014
Thank you Loosestife 2 ...
I find end of October into start of November the most difficult time, and after that I can cope with the cold winter !
Hi Junna ... thanks ... nice to see you on GoY :o) x
30 Nov, 2014
I'm catching up with blogs today Terra ... this is a lovely one ... love the Robin photo and the sunset most of all. Much colder here today than at the weekend ... about 8 degrees ... brr!
2 Dec, 2014
Hello Shirley ..
thanks .. yes... colder now, and today is wet ...
... so the robin and the sun are both hiding ;o)
2 Dec, 2014
lovely Terra, I quite like this time of year now, for the beauty it can bring
4 Dec, 2014
Thanks Paul ..
I find that after we've lived through the last week in October and first week in November, then everything seems to improve !
4 Dec, 2014
just a bit of snow for Christmas now ;)
4 Dec, 2014
Many hugs and kisses to Conker, Truffles, n' Crocus
Will always remembered you Terra...xxxxxx
