Vals patio

A friend replaced his patio slabs and asked if anyone would like his old ones which where a pinky colour and I thought my patio could do with a little make over ( mine being a miserable grey ) so I offered to take them off his hands.
All well and good I thought but who’s going to take up the old slabs and relay the new ? Mmm what a dilemma, just about every I one I knew had back problems etc, ( well that’s what they told me ) !
The 44 slabs duly arrived outside my back door so I had to make a decision. Can’t be that difficult can it ?
I can do it if I take my time and be careful .
So I did ! !
Took up the old ones and relayed the new .
So what you may ask, no big deal is it ?
Well I have to say I am very proud of myself, I have never done anything like this before in all my 74 yrs !

Wow...superb job! You've really shamed me :( I'm only 62 yrs. and am really nervous of doing paving slabs in our back garden! You are a star! I've got a bit longer to procrastinate as we are still at the weeding/digging up stage in our back garden...but alas, the day will come.

Thanks Joan, been patting myself on the back all day, ( just finished it )
Kfunsters and Cinders I hated saying how old I was , I just don't feel it, ( think my mother made a mistake on my birth certificate ) ! lol.
Khayla, Lincslass and Elsiemay, kind of you to say so .

Whistonlass, thank you but believe me its the thought of it that is unnerving, once you get stuck in its not too bad , just take your time and watch your back.

Hi Valadel
I'm gobsmacked ..all those slabs! Well I won't tell my oh, he might pass on the heavy jobs!! Its a superb job, dont knock it. Now if I tell you about the roses will you tell me about your weight lifting course?
Water them well but avoid foliage, put them on pot feet (I just know you can lift them pots!) water til it runs out underneath. They dont like wet feet but love lots to drink.
Now...about that course......
4 Sep, 2010
About that course Tetrarch, its called Pilates, all about strengthening your inner core ( whatever that may mean ), but it certainly helps when you have to find some strength to lift slabs etc . lol
Thanks for the info. on potted roses, will put a photo of my one thats not too bad. Watch this space ! :0))

my mum was 74 last week and like you Val she doecn't feel it (or look it) she always introduces me as her younger sister, (cheek) not her youngest child. The way I look at it is theres hope for me yet - she is inspirational as you are to everybody on here She recently tiled my daughters bathroom and did a very good job.

Thanks for that K. good on your mum to tile a bathroom, I'm off to wallpaper my daughters livingroom next month, us old 'uns have to keep going ! :0))

Val, you fill my heart with joy on seeing what a marvellous job you`ve done, and here`s me thinking I`d done a good job on the cupboard I`ve just made and shown off on my latest blog, but at 69 I realise that there`s oceans I can do before I`m 74 so do you reckon a building course is in order, ha ha.
5 Sep, 2010
Oh, have you got that job too Val? I shall be wallpapering for my daughter too next week. It's years since I did any, years since wall paper was in fashion too. Ah well, it's only one wall fortunately.
6 Sep, 2010
Stroller , thank you so much for your kind comments, but have to say I could not have built a cupboard like yours, its just brilliant and if you can do that you won't need a building course.
Do you think we should start a mutual admiration club just for us old 'uns ? lol
6 Sep, 2010
Hya Lily, yep we did lots of wallpapering years ago but its something you don't forget.
Do you want to join the club too ? --- Methinks you not old enough tho'. !
6 Sep, 2010
What club's that then Val......"The Game Old Bird's Club" ?? You know I'm not a day over 30 don't you! LOL

Thats a great job you've done. And remember: you're only as old as you feel, and you obviously feel in your 20's!
29 Sep, 2010
Thanks Judz. and Geraniumdad, and you are so right I am only in my 20's ( in my head any way) lol

Hi Valadel,Well done you. I think it is wonderful that you were able to do the slabs yourself, they look so perfectly in line as you say you are as old as you feel well done :))))
