Rose in pot

My garden is quite small and do not have much room for roses, but as I love them thought I might try them in pots,
This is called Piccalo and as you can see it appears to be flourishing.
Have been feeding with Miraclegrow and so far have not had to spray.
The pot was a birthday present and I think it looks quite grand on my “new” patio.

It's a beauty, Val. The bottom photo (largest of the roses in that photo) reminds me of the colour of my wedding dress way back in 1971! It looks quite at home in that pretty pot too.

That looks really lovely Val, the pot is super too.

Well - scent isn't everything. I know some people won't buy a rose that hasn't got a scent, but I do - I go by shape and colour. Your rose is a lovely shape and a beautiful colour. :-)

I bought this for the shape and such healthy looking foliage, so far so good.
Thanks Cinders I was more than happy to recieve the pot.

I agree - shape and colour are what you see mostly. Scent is an added bonus.
I do like your rose Val :o)

Most if not all roses look good with blue, nice fence.

Lovely rose.Looks amazingly healthy. I'm a scent person and never really been a fan of roses until quite recently. The colour goes very well with your 'mushroom'. The pot is a great way of showing it off.

Your rose and toning mushroom look very fetching against that lovely blue fence.

A lovely rose Val, you seem to be doing everything right as it looks really happy. I'm no good with roses, they get so many pests.

Glad you like my rose Hywel, thank you .

That's a beautiful, healthy looking plant, you must be treating it very well Val.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, you're right about the colour of the fence Heron its called Sea Grass, I love it !
As for treating the rose well ? Its the easiest rose I've ever had, not a sign of blackspot etc. ( Am I going to regret saying that ?) :0))

Hope not Val. I bought a rose "Rhapsody in Blue" this Summer and it had quite a few buds when I got it, but then it began to get black spot so I chopped it right back and it's now looking fresh and healthy again.Hope it will stay that way too!

I love roses ,they are lovely.

"Rhapsody in blue" what a nice name, is it like the old "Blue Moon"? I've yet to see a true blue rose but no doubt they'll create one some day.

lovely rose and pot to val, very pretty ;o))

It is a lovely dusky purple rather than a true blue Heron, a bit old fashioned looking colour, which I love. Will post a pic if I get a flower this year, or may have to wait til next.

Will have a look for Rhapsody in Blue. You know what Bellflower my motto in the garden is " If in doubt --chop it out " and that is what I will do if the blackspot appears ! lol

Val I thought the dreaded spot had come back again today, but I am pretty sure it's only some mud that the little birds dropped whilst eating their seeds.
8 Sep, 2010
Oh I do hope so, other wise you will be chopping it out again ! ;0))

fingers crossed Val!

Hi Val..
What are your conclusions of roses in pots ?
Any advice please ?
23 Jun, 2012
Weeeel TT . the rose in question did very well last year BUT this year is not so good, despite mulching and feeding all looking a bit sad but again I have a friend who has Arthur Bell in a plastic pot and it blooms its head off every year !
Have come to the conclusion that it depends on the rose, some you win some you don't !
Might put on a photo of this years effort.

I like Arthur Bell. I have a bush version in the front garden, and a climber A. Bell on my pergola in the back garden, which reaches up very high. Sometimes those nearer the ground get black spot on the leaves. I guess growing in a pot might protect the roses from such diseases ? Yes, please, post a pic/blog when you are ready :o)
