On our recent trip to the Algarve we saw this beautiful tree. The perfume was almost sweet. I tried to Google it when we got home, but still haven’t found out what it is. I bet there’s someone out there who knows.

Yes it is lovely! Maddening isn't it . . . how do you 'look up' something when you've no idea. Maybe take your photos to a nursery, or put them up on Questions on this site? I found out the name of a beautiful shrub I'd seen in NZ by doing that.

Has the appearance of a species of myrtle tree in flower but Kalhanie has got it right on.

I knew someone would know thank you Kalhanie. I think I'll find Tropical Hydrangea easier to remember...and pronounce lol! Thanks again everyone :))

That's great! I guess it doesn't really matter, but we gardeners just love to put a name to something that we haven't come across before . . . and now, when any of us go to the Algarve we'll be able to nonchalantly Name That Tree lol :)

Mystery solved, but what a gorgeous tree with all that unusual blossom. It must have been so striking because of its sweet scent too.

Lovely shrub, looks as though they have spent a lot of time pruining it into shape.
