Hubby and I enjoyed a great afternoon at the Plant Fair, bought lots of plants and met Sanbaz and her OH for the first time. Conversation flowed freely and it really was like meeting up with old friends :) So thanks to San and Baz for your company (and both hubbies for carrying and fetching plants to the cars!!).
I’ve been taking photos of all of my plants (some I had previously and others are new purchases) and will try and let you know what they are in the photos I’ve included…
3 Heucheras…Obsidian (purple leaves), Fire Chief (bronze, autumn colours), Electra (light green with red veins) ~ and Loni Nitida (Lemon Beauty)..hope that is the correct spelling!
Here is a list of the plants I have in the following photos …..
Potentilia (William Robinson)
Campanula Alba
Geranium Pink (Native) (from Sanbaz)
Grass (from Sanbaz)
Aubretia (Dr. Miles variegata)
Gardenia Kleims Hardy (MY SURPRISE GIFTED PLANT)
Bronze Bugle (One from Sanbaz and one purchased)
Oregano
Double Chamomile
Thyme Minimus
Unidentified plant from Sanbaz …
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I also received two box plants today from my good friend Daisyco and with her help we moved all the plants into the lovely sunshine and got them all watered.
(these are amongst the photos below).
I’ve attempted to make this blog as clear as I can but I think my brain is a bit dozy…hope it all makes sense to you!
And…..here’s my GoY friend (Sanbaz)….doesn’t she look friendly?

So pleased you all enjoyed your day out, the first time Sandra came to my house i felt i'd know her for ages
28 Mar, 2011
Yes, Sandra mentioned yesterday that you lived very close by to her...it was too bad you couldn't make it to the plant fair yesterday, Clarice. There is another one in May at Arley Hall. Sandra may have taken the details down and I will post the dates nearer the time as well.

Wow what a lot of lovely plants you bought, I especially love the Heuchera's and the Nitida is a absolutely wonderful plant I have one in my front garden [will take a picture of it for you, its vey hardy too] Nice for you and Sandra to meet up , just wish I had been able to go;0)
28 Mar, 2011
I love the dark leaved heuchera - I have a pash for dark leaved plants and that one is quite lovely.
Won't it be nice when they are all planted - but take your time doing it - don't overdo it will you ? They will survive in their pots for a while I'm sure if you don't feel up to it.
Take care.

Glad you enjoyed your day! It's great when you get to meet like minded people and all get on! That a lovely selection of plants, the Aubretia & the Huecheras look really colourful! You'll be looking forward to the next outing!
Whiston, could the unidentified plant from Sanbaz be a Rudbeckia by any chance?
28 Mar, 2011
A nice choice of plants. I'm glad you all met up and had a great time :o)
I have that grass. i don't know it's name though
Hi Sandra ! :D x
28 Mar, 2011
hi hywel, i hate my picture hahaha, not good with camera unless about a mile away :o))
28 Mar, 2011
Yes, Helen....San has commented that the plant is Rudbeckia goldstream...ta.
Marie, I will do a bit at a time, promise :)
PP....I was very pleased with the heucheras...I don't have a favourite (like them all...lol)...I would like very much to see a photo of your Nitida (it did appeal to me and looked very fiesty).
Maybe Clarice and PP you can make the next plant fair? :) It would be lovely to meet you both.
TT, Paul, SK and Bloomer....I'm glad you liked the blog and managed to wade through it! lol I am very pleased with all the new plants and the ones I had already that are showing new growth despite the very cold winter.
28 Mar, 2011
Hywel, I'm not aware of the name of the grass but it does look very robust and will look lovely in the borders or even the rockery when they are ready.
San...we often are thinking just like you...don't like to see photos of ourselves (well I don't like photos of me either; I usually think...oh dear, I should have worn something else, oh dear I look too fat in that picture...that's how it goes!). I think you look absolutely great, so there! x
28 Mar, 2011
its goldsterm jacquie i spelt it wrong haha
i will ask clarice(carol) the name of grass as she gave it to me and it grows fast jacquie, so i have mine in a pot but you could restrict growth in a border, shady is best cause they like moist,
and thanx for kind comment jacquie but your right we never like our own photos x
28 Mar, 2011
Ooops! didn't see that sorry. Whiston & Sanbaz!
I agree with Whiston about the photo Sanbaz!
28 Mar, 2011
The grass survived this terrible winter in the garden and some in a pot so it must be tough.
I hate my photo too Sandra :( Have you seen the recent one of me ? :o(((
28 Mar, 2011
thanx helen you all should go to specsavers lol :o))
i havent hywel i must run and peep lol
28 Mar, 2011
Thanks for the correction on the spelling, San....I wouldn't have noticed until I came to look it up, so no damage done. Maybe I can keep the grass in a pot but bury it in the borders or rockery? Will see what I end up with...decision pending :)
28 Mar, 2011
yes that the type of thing i ment jacquie, i have done that with my bamboo so it doesnt start to pop up all over.
28 Mar, 2011
What a lovely day you had. Especially like the Heuchera of course ! You are going to have such fun sorting out where they are all going Jacquie. Its lovely starting from scratch
28 Mar, 2011
Yes, I am sure you are right, Cinders. I found myself getting really excited today when my friend and I were out in the garden putting all the plant pots together. I really could believe we WILL have a garden soon with lovely planting.
I'll try that I think, San...keep it in a pot :)
28 Mar, 2011
Both you and Sanbaz certainly ended up with a good selection of plants after your day out. So pleased you all had such an enjoyable time. I particularly like your lemon nitida - another plant for me to look out for :)
28 Mar, 2011
You got some great plants Jacqui, and isn't San's scarf beautiful! :))
28 Mar, 2011
Thanks Gee and Karen....there was so much choice and not having gardened before I had to trust my intuition about what to purchase. Yes, San looked great...and the scarf was pretty, I agree, Karen. :)
28 Mar, 2011
Glad you all had a great day. It does help going to places like that with like-minded people, though not good for the pocket (oh what the heck !) .
Have you got someone to do your landscaping yet Jacquie ? Is Lucy out and about in the garden yet ?
Fabulous selection of plants.
It's always nice to see a face to a name (Sandra), I know there is the little one of you -but this one shows your character more.
Here's to a happy gardening year ! ;)
29 Mar, 2011
Judy.....the landscaping quotes are still dragging on...I have the last gardene coming tomorrow afternoon (a lady).
We are pretty much thinking we will get the ground prepared, add topsoil (6 tonnes was recommended) and the turf then carry on ourselves with the other areas bit by bit...as and when. I've got a great pal in my friend (Daisyco) and she is happy to help me sort things out.
Lucy is still indoors (well settled down now...she's found the bedroom as of yesterday so now scratches at the door wanting in...lol). It will be another 2 weeks before it is recommended to allow her outdoors (can't wait to have her company in the garden but just anxious that she may run off if the traffic noise is troublesome to her).
A happy gardening year, indeed, Judy :)

Lovely blog J, sounds like you had a fantastic time! There is nothing like sharing the love of plants with like minded friends, especially someone as nice as Sanbaz..her nice nature shines thru all her remarks.. I have a feeling this garden is going to be full to bursting before too long.
I have the Firechief and both of them survived the winter okay. The Rudbeckia is a really sunny happy looking plant and one of the last to bloom before winter. That also survived well in my garden. It was a lovely gift for its a super plant. Also easy to propagate I reckon, cos a little bit broke off my main plant so I shoved it into a pot. It really was tiny, mostly root..and it has started to produce a few leaves!
Hope you have lots more of such days to enjoy!

Hello Jacquie! You seem to have had a lovely afternoon at the plant fair! The plants are all lovely, they look good and healthy as well, you never know, you might be able to split some of them and make them go a bit further. Oh, and Sandra, that is a gorgeous photo of you, I won't hear any different! Lovely smiley face, your personality really shines through! Great to put a face to a name! Oh, and just as someone else said Jacquie, those plants will be fine in their pots for quite a while, so no rush planting now, ok? Look after yourself, they're not going anywhere!
30 Mar, 2011
that be great hun ................ dont4 get lol ;0))))
30 Mar, 2011
Pleased to hear that Fire Chief survived the winter for you, M. I think the heucheras are so beautiful and I hope your words will come true and my garden will soon be full to bursting. Just waiting in now for our final gardener (lady) to come after 3.30pm to speak to us about our garden plans (and the budget!)...
Libet, thanks for your nice comments...I will keep things as they are for now in the pots...as long as I keep them from getting dried out they should be ok for quite some time. It would be great if I could split some of the plants so I will have to see about that when I'm ready to put them in the ground :)
Will let you know about future plant fairs, Cristina :)

30 Mar, 2011
You're very welcome! :0)
30 Mar, 2011
Oooh, M.....we didn't go around the gardens as I wasn't too good on my pins on that day....actually I think it was San who commented that my hubby was the fittest amongst all 4 of us!! We all had aches & pains....lol
Ness Gardens do sound beautiful...I can imagine in the late spring/early summer it is a picture. Just let us know if you're coming up to Cheshire to the gardens....would love to meet up :)
31 Mar, 2011

I am looking forward to planting up, DD...as you say. I am hoping the garden will soon be sorted (have a great lady gardener that sounds promising) and I can plant up all my flowers once she's got the basics in for me.
And I agree, San is a lovely girl :)
