It has taken me all evening and much of today so the least I can do is share my efforts with you!
I love searching through the boxes and tins and bags to see all the ‘old friends’ again!
Hope it is enjoyable for you because I so enjoyed doing it!
Come in and see, mince pies and mulled wine are waiting!!!
NO, NOT YOU, YOU ARE TOO EARLY!!!
I started with the two windows that look out onto the lane.
These lights are new and were a nightmare to untangle when they were first opened! They started off over the fireplace but have already been moved to the staircase!!
The old lights are now back in their rightful place over the fireplace where they have always been – hope you are keeping up with this!!
We went to choose the tree from a nearby Christmas tree farm. It is lovely to see the families wandering round deciding which tree to have.
That is just about it for now. We seem to be on the edge of a storm here so I am off to see if you have left me any mince pies and mulled wine because it is definitely time for a sit down!

Those new lights were worth the untangling ... so very pretty! Love your tree too. I had my day planned to do just the same as you ... unable to decorate the artificial tree as the base must still be in the loft and I can't open the hatch. Oh well, the windows have candle bridges in and the hall has sparkly lights on the dresser ... so frustrating though not to be able to dress the tree. The Christmas carol CD playing was very festive too. Have a happy Christmas ... stay safe and warm. :o)

Wow, it all looks so cosy and warm. I haven't put any decorations up yet (have to wait until daughter has her birthday on Friday!). I will probably do it at the weekend but the mince pie and mulled wine has made me feel very Christmassy :) Thank you.

Paul I am glad to see you are having a rest with the computer after all the activity of the past few days!
Shirleytulip, the icing seems to have set at last!

Happiness all round then as OH found the base for the Christmas tree ... he's watching footie on TV while I try to hang baubles ... not easy with a cat who thinks it's a game to paw at them!

How lovely, Wildrose - it looks beautiful! OH is well on the way with our decorating - it is his favourite time of year. I love your new lights, and think lights on the staircase are always such a lovely idea. Enjoy your Christmas!

Lovely decorations you have there Chris, your house looks so warm and inviting.Like how you've done the fireplace and the stair rail.Hope you managed to get a mince pie! :-)

That is such a wonderful display.
Christmas doesnt arrive until 17th Dec in our house. reason: when my mum was a little girl the tree was put up on her birthday 17th Dec. she always thought it was her birthday tree and it wasn't until she was about 7 or 8 that she realised. So it is a family 'tradition' that I have carried on and now my eldest is doing the same in her home. he partner says its a waste of time and makes lost of dust! Not that he dusts!
I do like the decorations but 2-3 weeks is enough for me :o)

Love your light displays, and your wonderful stone fireplace is perfect (hope Santa can just squeeze past?).
My OH always puts our tree up and decorates it on my birthday (19th) . . . I love it! Hope you have a lovely Christmas, Chris, and thanks for giving us a smile :)

It all looks lovely Chris. The tree goes up after the 6th Dec in our house which is my daughter Ella's birthday xx

Bought everything in my case Meadowland!!!

I have enjoyed hearing about your different traditions in each of your homes. It is fascinating that so many of you also have family birthdays to think about or even your own birthdays! My husband's birthday is on the 12th December and mine is in early in January!
Once the New Year has arrived I am more than ready to take the decorations down and to buy a bunch of daffodils instead!

It all looks great Wildrose. I used to put the tree up on the 7th for my son's birthday. He was 37 on Sunday so he is too old for such things. He also lives in London now. I hope to be finished my Christmas decorating by Saturday and will put some seasonal photos on the site. Hope you got your mulled wine. We had 32 people here on Sunday and I made mulled wine........the house had a wonderful smell of Christmas. It was an arty open day!!!!

Our other fireplace has some bricks in it which are very blackened with soot so tomorrow a 'mucky' job awaits me...........how to get them clean?
It was more fun doing the decorations!

I agree it looks very attractive Wildrose, it feels like christmas here now, our tree went up last Saturday( a week later than usual)we went to a Carol Service at the Endowed School on Tuesday evening, which was really good, Santa has just gone up our street in his highly decorated sled with his Elves and their collecting tins, I have eaten some mince pies this week but no mulled wine yet, hubby keeps asking when I'm making some as he prefers homemade, mind you it didn't stop him eating the ones we'd bought...
Merry Christmas.......

Looking at your blog has made me feel more christmassy Chris. I threw out my trees this year, but having seen how beautiful your house looks, I'm starting to think I may go up into the loft and make the effort. Whatever I do it will not look as cosy and warm as yours does:-)

Oh yes it will Ba, you know how artistic I think you are!
Lincslass we are going to a carol concert in Okehampton tomorrow evening so I am hoping that the gales will have blown away by then!
Neellan, it was housework today so not a lot of fun to be had and not a mince pie to be seen!
Bloomer, the sooty water from the fireplace bricks had to be seen to be believed! Looks a lot better than it did!
Hywel are you down from the attic yet - I wonder whether you found any treasures up there?!
11 Dec, 2014
Happy birthday to your OH for tomorrow, Wildrose. I will tell my daughter she has a 'twin' :)

So love your Christmas blog your home looks so cosy and inviting .
That had been lovely choosing your fresh Christmas tree.
We used to always have real but now got a very real looking artificial.
But I always have a vase of real spruce nearer to Christmas week.
I so love the Christmas smell
And as a kid in my stocking was a tangerine and Macintosh red apple.
The smell of these apples always remined me of Christmas ,but the smell somehow does not have the same smell.
Yes storm is on its way infact can here it battering of the window.
It's bee a dark day all day so Christmas lights have been on all day.
Have a wonderful Christmas.WR
