Why i love the way i garden..

I like to pack the plants in and i love leaf shape as much as flowers, The way they mingle and cross over and through each other, gives me a massive buzz, I also love the challenge of pushing the boundry of the not so hardy plants up here, even though it can be expensive and ive made huge mistakes, its all a learning curve for me, Ive learned so much from you all on goy and have never heard the names of some of the fantastic plants you grow, I would like to thank you all for the help and brilliant suggestions of hardy plants that fit in with my style of gardening, You are Amazing :) thankyou…

Oh, Ydd, a garden to be proud of, pat yourself on the back for the wonderful planting scheme you've created, it's stunning! I know what you mean by the help & advice received on this site, I'm another who has learnt so much about gardening from being on here, and had a lot of laughs on the way! :o)))

It really is beautiful - and your plant combinations are stunning! :-)))

Wow!~ Where to start?! I see you have a ligularia just starting to bloom. Things are wilting here with the heat and lack of rain..went down to the steam this afternoon and it's dried right up!! The ligs are beside the pond, I had to haul water from the rainbarrel to revive Othello...but was surprised to see that Desdemona has buds and a flower! I agree with you about liking the structure of plants and the foliage shape as much as the blossoms...There is so much colour in your garden too... Congrats YDD!

Fantastic Young Daisy, the structure and colour is a wow. You should feel very proud of your garden, its lovely.

Isn't that just FANTASTIC! It's full to bursting Ydd! The combos of colours are stunning, and really beautiful, healthy happy plants! That agapanthus with the black stem is, well, words fail me, there you go...I'm speechless! This is going on my faves for a drool! The hot oranges and reds, yum! And next year try sowing your own coloeus! They're easy, and you'll have absolutely loads to play with! I love your garden, Ydd, it's beautiful!x

Oh Dee, your garden is amazing, you certainly have the flair with architectural planting, love it. I'm into ligularia at the moment, I find them fascinating, your lobelia is great too, in fact everything is. Your hard work and planning has certainly paid off :-)

I think it looks really good in your garden, daisy. I like the eucalyptus foliage with the dahlia in the first photo.
Your garden really is taking on that tropical look well, it reminds me a bit of a Balinese courtyard garden. To me it looks full but not crowded and you really have got some lovely healthy looking plants in there, you obviously take a lot of care and do really well at looking after them. Thanks for showing and good luck.

Hi Ydd, just looked at your photo's for the first time and your comment that you are a haphazard gardener. Well I have been gardening for more years than I care to remember and I can only say that I wish mine looked half as good as your gorgeous garden. Bravo.

7 Aug, 2011

That Ligularia should be hardy, Ydd - I have one very like it, and it's fine. I just checked in my RHS book too - and they get three stars for hardiness, so even 'oop north' like your garden, they should get through the winter with no problems.

7 Aug, 2011

WOW!!! What a lovely hot garden to look out on in this miserable weather. It must be a real sun trap. I have a ligularia like yours too, in full flower now. We live in Cumbria, and it's fully hardy--even after last winter. I have it by the pond, and the foliage is a beautiful dark contrast for other plants to grow beside, isn't it? I must try some coleus again, after seeing yours--I think you've given us all loads of inspiration!! Thanks for the pics. Annie
