Stressed!!

One of my neighbors is a traveler and is gone for weeks at a time in his motor home to different parts of the country. We always ‘keep an eye out’ when he’s away and for the past three years there have been no problems. He has an African violet that he usually takes to his daughter’s house for safe keeping. Well this year he asked me if I would look after it for a period of two weeks. I said sure no problem. When he brought the plant over he casually mentioned that it was a plant his mother gave him. With him being over 70, that plant was over 25 years old!! Knowing how irreplaceable that plant was made me panic every time anyone went near it for the whole two weeks! It survived and was looking great when he arrived for it. I, however, was ready for the loony bin!! lol

Oooh Gardengnome! I don't envy your task! whenever I ask anyone to look after anything for me I always say ....don't fret, if it dies....it is only a plant! I think I would have killed it purely with my anxious vibes!

Some years ago I used to be given the 'privilege' of looking after the garden and greenhouse for my Dad if he went away.
Thankfully, he didn't have many holidays but when he did it was always when the greenhouse was full of toms, cucumbers, peppers, lots of little seedlings etc., and the garden was crammed with the usual summer time goodies. The watering regime was bad enough but I used to agonise endlessly about which thing needed feeding, how much, what day etc.! Such a responsibility and I'd be muttering 'only 3 more days' and 'he's back tomorrow' and spending ages checking and re-checking every leaf and stalk for problems :))

Many years ago a lovely old couple across the road took a weeks' holiday and left me in charge of watering garden plants. It was a very hot week, I somehow managed to break the tap on their water butt, stood in panic watching all the water flood the path and lawn. Even worse, the other water butt, side by side, filtered into each other so you can imagine me frantically running round to find containers, cans, buckets etc. ! Funny now, awful at the time. I explained what had happened on their return and was not asked to water again ! lol : o ) )

Good job, GG! African violets are one of the things that stress me out when they are my own, and a WM special, at that!

lol. I have an idea how you feel.
I look after about 20 fuchsias for a friend over the winter, and every year I am on pins wondering if they have survived. When one dies she blames me for not looking after it, but I always tell her if she had looked after it properly last summer it would have had a better chance of surviving. :D
I'm glad the plant survived for you , and your neighbour :o))
