Normanby's late summer beauties.

I needed some inspiration for late summer flowering plants, and what better place to visit, than the gorgeous gardens of Normanby Hall right on my doorstep.
Here are a few pics of whats in flower now and with help from my friends here at GoY at naming them, I can look out for seed of these lovely varieties……..:o)

Expecting to see golds and reds, there were many pink toned plants like this beautiful Cleome, the Spider flower.

Teamed with the Cleome were delicate Cosmos, echoing the pink shades.

Planted amongst them tall white Nicotianas perfumed the air.

This stunning Salvia Horminium – Pink sundae, named by Bertiefox and Mookins is definitely on my wish list for next year!

Adding to the gentle shades, silvery Achillea, a purple Salvia with a backdrop of Japanese Anemones and white Phlox make for a winning combination.

This beautiful Rosa rugosa forms part of a hedge enclosing the ornamental fishpond, a wonderful Rose with a scent to match.

Here a purple Salvia and toning Eryngium make great partners.

Lovely informal planting of Verbena bonariensis and golden Bidens surrounded by the formal box hedging, with the hedge of Rosa rugosa in the background.

Happy to be topping this ancient trough, the pretty speckled leaves of Abutilon contrast well with a purple Tradescantia.

With such a selection of beautiful plants to think about, its time for an ice-cream and maybe a ride on the Golden Gallopers…….:o)

I always like to see photos from Normanby . It's beautiful all year round, even in winter which lots of people on here don't seem to appreciate - too busy being miserable.

I've never been before so it is on a list of "places to visit".I like gardens in the winter too...when it is peaceful too....

Very nice Janey, the Cleome/ Cosmos works well and I love Nicotiana sylvestris.I seem to remember somebody telling me Cleome does'nt like being disturbed so sow direct, and slugs are fond of the seedlings.

Pleased you all enjoyed the pics, will remember that advice Robert and give them another try next year.........

Robert is so right! Last year, I started off with 12 seedlings - I ended up having to sow a new packet of seeds, as every one got eaten!

What a lovely set of photos of a beautiful place, Janey! Thanks for taking us there...

Thanks Spritz....the two things in your garden that really are full of health and vitality are slugs and snails Lol! I pruned my golden Hop plant yesterday and the wall behind was littered again with families of snails..........:o(

2 Sep, 2009

Not slugs, thank goodness, Janey! I suffer from all sizes of snails...from tiny to the large brown ones. My plants do, too! lol.

Strangely enough, I rarely see slugs!

Want some Spritz? I've got a few I could spare you:-) Lovely blog Janey and what a great place to visit. I'm definitely getting some salvia horminium too. If this site is anything to go by, seed companies will soon run out of it, everyone loves it:-)
