A short story. But you might already have redit-redit-redit...

Down the garden path, under the roses, past the crisp apples and the borders buzzing with bees, down, down, under the leaves and fronds….
….at the edge of a bright little pool of water, curious goings-on were afoot…
“I say, old chap; started raining again. Damned poor show if you ask me. What’s say you and I take shelter under a lily pad, what-what? All this wet can’t be good for ones old bones”
“Absolutely out of the question old boy! No room under here for you!”
“What? I say, that’s rather unreasonable isn’t it? Must be room for a fellow somewhere…what about over there?”
“Sorry, absolutely out of the question, old sport. No room for you here!”
“Oh, well. I’m just going to have to get wet then aren’t I. Perhaps I can just shelter under this Nasturtium seed-pod… I say; where’s Caruthers got to? Caruthers? Caruthers? Where the blazes did he get to…?
“te he he….”

Wonderful. Are these frogs friends with Bonkers highly trained Mafia frogs?

Well, I don't know....they DO seem to hang out in gangs... Must admit, I'm more worried about Bonkers' Ninja War Ducks than his Mafia frogs.....

redit, redit, lovedit, lovedit! Hes a whopper isnt he.
This week I am going to make a water feature at the back of my garden in an overgrown rockery. When i was having a look at the area last weekend, pulling up some grass and brambles and general overgrowth I disturbed a lovely toad! Toads and frogs aren't my favourite neighbours but hopefully this little fella will like the addition of a small waterfall to his domain. The reason I dont particularly like them to be in the garden is because I have a fear of hurting them while I go about my gardining activities. The poor things dont move very quickly and you never know where they are. When I start to make the water feature i'm hoping that he shows his face so I can put him out of harms way until I have finished the job. I'll take some pics when its done.

Thats great, and your pond water looks so clear. Do you have a pump? I dont have a pump in mine and I really struggle to keep it clear? Any advice?

Thanks for all the nice comments folks - glad you liked my little excursion into fantasy land!
Lynne - lucky you, I've never seen a toad in my garden. I know what you mean about them getting into harms way - I think lawn mowers must be the stuff of nightmares to our froggy friends :-S Looking forward to seeing piccies of your progress with the pond :-)
Andrea - No, I don't have a pump and yes, it has stayed very clear so far. In one of my old gardening books, it says that too much sun causes algae growth, but also says you should position your pond in full sun. It says that you should plant up your pond so that a large proportion of the surface area is shaded by the plants. All these plants require full sun, hence positioning it in full sun. So, Full sun + lots of shading plants = clear water. If you look at the top pic of the pond from above, you'll see that most of the surface area is in fact covered by plants (the floating water hyacinth and the lilly pads). Also, I used only rain water to fill it and I'm careful not to overfeed the fish. So far so good! Sarah.

Lovely photos and great comments. You have a good sense of humour and a knack for telling short stories on your blogs which I enjoy and appreciate. The water plants in particular all look so healthy, no wonder your pond is such a des res (desirable residence).Thank you.
