Orchid...

I recently asked about all the little black flies in the compost of this plant, and the helpful replies, suggested they were scarid flies..They didn’t affect the Orchid at all,but very unpleasant when they kept flying all around me..and everyone else !
This is what I decided to try,to get rid of them…sticky plant labels..not a pretty sight,so hope you aren’t eating :o)
Great success,so added one to each overwintering plant in the Conservatory..and I was surprised to see how many were on those too….so very pleased to see they work well, without the need to use a spray.. ..

I don't like using them either,Louisa..only very occasionally, and outside only..but if there is a good alternative,it's better to try it first..I've just had a look at the packet,if you are interested..24 in a pack, lasts up to 3 months, dual purpose insect monitoring trap.with record label on other side..can be used inside and out..attracts whitefly,Aphids and gnats ..they were £3.99p from a garden centre...in a yellow packet,if you decide to try them..

Horrid things :o( I've found lots of them lately, espscially in the bathroom where I think they enjoy the humidity. Maybe I'll try the same remedy as you've done.

Thanks everyone, glad you all think it's one solution to these little blighters..and hope you all get rid of yours..It would be good if you posted how you got on,and if it was successful....and Hywel, they are worse when the soil is damp,or if you have just watered them...so maybe your bathroom is heaven for them ..:o) They will love you ! Lol.

Thanks Terra..every insect trap I have used so far,has got them on..in three rooms,so I am glad I tried them.
apparently I have heard they just disappear in the summer,so I will check that,as I am going to change them after the recommended three months of usage..and thanks for adding to GoYpedia .:o)

Glad it helped,Amy..and I promise not to give you a yellow bread sarnie..that would kind of give it away wouldn't it ? ..I could add some salad if you like ..ok,hold the salad :o))) x
18 Mar, 2013
I think I'll give the sarnie a miss if it's o.k with you Sandra ... .. I shall never be able to face Piccalilli in a sarnie again LOL ... x
18 Mar, 2013
Lol,Amy..forget the sarnie,we'll go out ! :o).. and going
back to the topic.(.We digressed a bit,as usual ) I put some in my overwintering fuchsias, and cuttings,so the little devils got everywhere..you just don't realise they are there...but at least they haven't done any harm to anything..
18 Mar, 2013
That sounds a good idea ,going out I mean :o) and putting some sticky labels in the greenhouse I will do that ,we get all sorts of creepy things in there !

excellent idea, might try that myself. It does look a bit unpleasant, but I have an aversion to using sprays and this is obviously effective.
