WHAT TO DO WHEN SNOW KEEPS YOU IN

I have hated waiting to get out in the garden, so much still to do. I have been cursing the snow, but at least it has made me tackle all the other jobs I’ve been putting off.
When we last had snow a good few weeks ago, I sent for a bird table and when it arrived I was most annoyed to find it wasn’t all pre drilled. I left it lying in the garage. Then I sent off for my brilliant new toy, here she is …..ta da!!!
Isn’t she a beauty, cordless too. My old drill was too big and heavy and I was always somewhat afraid of it. This is so light I can hold it with one hand. I have been able to assemble the bird table, here’s the proof.
Next I sent for two corner wall shelf units from Wilkos. I’ve been meaning to do this job for over a year. My lovely pink drill went to work assembling and putting up the units.
This next job has been waiting for even longer, but I found it hard to find brackets which would let me position shelves just above the tiles. Found them a few days ago on Argos online. I’m very pleased and feeling smug:o)
Next, a big job which had been sitting in the garage for over 2 years I think. I had ordered a potting table from Crocus and when it arrived I went into a state of total panic. Now, I have never liked jigsaws, useless at them, more of a cryptic crossword type. There were so many bits and pieces and I just shoved them all back in the box and ran away lol. This is the list of parts.
I finished it today yay!!!
Those of you who went to Specsavers will notice there are two roses sitting on it which arrived today, earlier than I was hoping.
This next pic is of another purchase, which I must admit gave me a nervous breakdown when trying to assemble it. This Nilfisk power washer arrived the day before the snow. In the appalling instruction leaflet ( I hate all instructions leaflets) a filter was mentioned which had to be fitted or the warranty would be invalidated. I searched high and low for said filter, but to no avail. In desperation I rang the helpline number on the leaflet only to be told that it was now integral and they were sorry, but some old leaflets had been sent out with new machines! I asked if I had paid for this call? yes and another apology. I eventually got it together and marched outside, still in a very stressed state, plugged it in and attached my hose. I saw visions of sparkling paving, what a clever woman I was …and I was saving money as I wouldn’t have to get anyone in to do the job. I pulled the trigger and a sad trickle came out ….I felt totally defeated and wished I had never even thought of buying the stupid thing. Not to be beaten, I looked on you tube for inspiration and watched a man showing a similar model. He pressed the ON BUTTON ON THE FRONT! Yes I felt stupid, but I thought the trigger turned it on lol:o)
So you see, the snow doesn’t have to be an enemy, maybe we should look upon it as a reminder to do all those jobs we have put off for too long:o)))

Well it proves ladies are not just a pretty face lol and a pink drill what more could a lady want I have had a go of my OH drill but as you said they are quiet frighting to use . Your potting table looks really good .

My oh my what a clever DIY`er you are, but be careful and don`t let the head swell too much or you will not get back inside the house ~ oh go on then I`ll blow the trumpet for you you`ve done a marvellous job.

A girl after my own heart BA! Love that drill. When I need a new one I want it to be pink!
It's great to catch up with lots of things. Least now they won't be at the back of your mind.
28 Mar, 2013
I'm utterly useless at DIY so I admire your handiwork. I wouldn't have a clue how to use a drill either, but I do like the pinkness of it:)
I'll probably spend today doing the detested housework, but at least it will keep me busy and out of the cold.
29 Mar, 2013
Thanks Diane, I deserve a medal lol:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Hi Sticki, thanks, but don't you go and dis my new PINK drill lol. Actually it's associated with the breast cancer charity, see the pink ribbon motif ...hence pink. They get a fiver from each sale:-)
BA's a d.i.y - er
for work she is a glutton
there really is no stopping her
Now she's found her on/off button :-))
29 Mar, 2013
Hi Olive, thanks, do you have nervous breakdowns at the sight of them too?:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Linda, I don't know how I lived without one lol:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Hi Snoop, I'm always suspicious of men who claim they can't do something...... are you one of those men who 'accidentally' break crockery so they don't have to wash up lol?:-)
29 Mar, 2013
so long as you like pink BA thats fine with me but i couldnt use pink ~ do they do any other colours?
the most important thing is that it works ~ and it clearly does ~ you have inspired me ~ now what can i go and make?!!
29 Mar, 2013
Sandra, you've done better than me ...you've made money, I only spent it:-) Well actually I have saved it too as I thought I was going to have to employ a handyman. I have a few more jobs to do, no stopping me now:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Thanks Kidsgran, not so sure about the pretty face lol:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Stroller, I blame you for starting me off again, dragging me from my life of indolence:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Hi Scottish, I've still got a few more jobs to do, at least the garage looks a bit tidier. Well at least part of it does:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Hi Louisa, houseworkophobia seems to be a common illness among us gardeners:-)
29 Mar, 2013
well done Ba, you really have been busy, good for you, some wonderful work carried out there,
29 Mar, 2013
Sticki my girl, there are quite a few tiny, lightweight cordless drills on the market now in other makes and colours. The lightweight ones are lithium:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Hiya Yorky \0/ I still wish this flippin snow would go though. You ought to see me each morning, trotting down the bit of path I cleared, kettle in hand, clinging onto the arch and leaning over to thaw out the bird bath:-))
29 Mar, 2013
your a fine woman BA. well done to you, hope you are fully clothed whilst swinging on the arch
29 Mar, 2013
thanks BA,
ps i also have houseworkophobia but im not looking into any cure!
29 Mar, 2013
Brill blog, Arent you clever BA, except for the jetwash switch thing lol. At least you realised right away it wasn't right... Me, i did a whole patio before i realised i hadn't switched it on DUH..
PS, love your drill..
29 Mar, 2013
Thanks Ydd, I didn't realise about the switch right away , I thought I had wasted my money and spent ages fed up and despairing lol. There was a dvd with it, but for some reason I haven't been able to play any on my pc for a while so had to rely on rubbish instructions. Looking on you tube was only an afterthought, so still not so clever:-))))
29 Mar, 2013
True enough Val, and in this weather i'm over-fully clothed lol:-)
29 Mar, 2013
A maid Sticki?:-)
29 Mar, 2013
so am I Ba
29 Mar, 2013
Well Done BA you are a clever girl and have done a brilliant job with all your projects! you deserve a nice big Chocolate Easter Egg ;0))
29 Mar, 2013
they want money BA!
29 Mar, 2013
Well, you have been busy ! I bet you are really proud of yourself and so you should be! I don't think I would have had the nerve to hang shelves though . Well done! I had to laugh when you said about the pressure washer though as I did exactly the same thing ! lol.
29 Mar, 2013
Oooh Carole, yes I think you're right, a bit of chocolate is a fitting reward:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Forgot about that Sticki:-)
29 Mar, 2013
Hi Rose, so far that makes you me and Youngdaisydee. Must be something about gardeners and not looking properly which my husband always said about me lol. I've not hung shelves before, now I'm looking for other places I can hang them lol:-))
29 Mar, 2013
Wow,Ba..now that's what I call being multiskilled ..such a clever girl..they look great..about remembering to switch things on ..I did the same when first trying to load pics from my camera..it really does help to turn things on ! Lol..well done my friend :o)) x
29 Mar, 2013
Well BA, this awful feeling of inadequacy and hopelessness has just come over me after seeing this!!
I love all your handywork and am SO impressed.
I, on the other hand............!!!!
29 Mar, 2013
So that makes 3 of us so far who didnt know about turning switches on, As it happens when i did the patio hub was working nearby and he popped in for a drill or something, i said im not impressed with this jetwash, I might as well just use the hosepipe on its own, He said, Yi have to switch it on yi na and off he went. I know he would of went back to work and told all his mates! :))))
30 Mar, 2013
Thanks Sandra, if you're anything like me (which I don't take for granted lol) a state of panic takes over and numbs the brain. That's my excuse anyway ...... do you want any shelves putting up?:-))))
30 Mar, 2013
Hi Chris, it was that flippin' Stroller who shamed me into it. All her blogs about handymanning and digging out massive trees ...... and there was me thinking of getting a 'man' in:-))
30 Mar, 2013
Lol Ydd, how quick we all are to blame the tools, does that make us bad workmen do you think? I bet those workmates of your hubs have had similar experiences, but a lot of men aren't too keen on letting people know when they've been daft:-)
30 Mar, 2013
Lol,Ba..thanks for the kind offer, but I have a OH who has a fetish for putting shelves up..you name a space, there is a shelf there! We have the most organised loft in town,I think :o) x
30 Mar, 2013
You don't know how lucky you are ....I've needed organising all my life:-)
30 Mar, 2013
Jobs well done there Ba and very good they look too, pat on the back earned there, I do like an independent woman, I'll have a go at most things even shelves in my sheds, definitely NOT in my house where they are on show, doesn't matter how I measure and check with the spirit level they always look cockeyed at the finish and would end up looking like the house that Jack built....
Your new piece of kit looks a natty one, I like to get my hands on hubby's tools but they are always so awkward and heavy to use, his cordless one has two batteries so one can be in use whilst charging the other, only problem with me is the fact that I have small hands, can't flipping change the darn thing, you DO NOT want to hear the language if I'm in full swing and that happens especially if he's not around to change it for me, lol,
I'm sorry but had to laugh when reading about your debacle with the jet washer, its so funny, I had a mental picture of you storming off in a paddy swearing at the waste of hard earned cash, now thats something I have perfected to a fine art, as to the instruction leaflets and manuals, well!! lets face it some of them would try the patience of a saint...
30 Mar, 2013
I certainly did get in a paddy Lincs lol. Getting the shelf level was a doddle as the shelf more or less sits on top of the tiles and they were fine, getting the corner shelves level was a bit more awkward (walls not square) but I balanced them on two boxes and kept the spirit level on top:-)

You deserve a medal ... I award you a gold. (Son's partner will soon attempt a 3 mile swim: he has bought a medal and had it engraved in readiness - on a ribbon too. Aahh.)
But you are truly an inspiration Ba . . . Fantastic achievements!
30 Mar, 2013
Problem now Sheila, I'll have to widen the doors to let my head through:-) Your son sounds very thoughtful and in my book, anyone who swims 3 miles deserves a medal ...I can't swim at all:-))
31 Mar, 2013
Gosh very impressed, wish I could do those things , beats waiting for other half to do them.
I noticed one of the roses waiting to be planted is Designer Sunset . I bought the very same last year and it was a joy lovely glossy leaves and gorgous colour, think I put a picture on here. Have you your next job in mind?
2 Apr, 2013
I'll have a look for your pic Mary, I have been looking for this rose for ages, always good to hear that they are as good as you hope. I've been painting today, I must have taken an energy pill or something lol:-):-)
