Spring Bulbs

Spring has arrived in Moray, although I am probably speaking a little too soon! The temperature has been shooting up to 8C in the sun and we even had lunch outdoors today :-). Although we have no herbaceous plants in flower yet the bulbs are waking up rapidly.
Crocus Blue Pearl
Crocus Goldilocks
Crocus Aubade
These three are all varieties of Crocus chrysanthus. We planted a lot last year for early colour, althogh the ones above are established clumps.
Crocus tommasinianus roseus
There are several forms of the ‘Tommys’ available, all with super colouring.
Eranthis hyemalis
The winter aconites spread freely from self sown seed.
Eranthis hyemalis Guinea Gold
Look at the rich colouring of Guinea Gold. Unfortunately it is a sterile hybrid and so does not produce seed and spread around like the species.
This fellow was a complete surprise. I would have thought it much too early for him to appear and be sunbathing. Note that he has lost his tail and is growing a new one.
Lets have a quick look in the bulbhouse. It is unheated and so everything is just as far behind as in ther garden.
Iris Harmony
Crocus Herald
Crocus Herald
Iris Clairette in the garden.
This looks just like the one that Spritzhenry was asking about a few days ago.

Everything looks so well and bright, it must be warmer up there than it is down here, we have the sun but the wind is perishing, thanks for the beautiful pictures.

Lovely colours Bulbaholic I really like the crocus blue pearl and the iris clairette. We have no colour here at all yet, although the leaves have sprouted.
What on earth is the wee creature? Is it some kind of lizard? Never seen one of those either!

You've certainly lived up to your name there Bulbaholic, they are beautiful. The first (Blue Pearl) I've made a note of and will get a big bag full for next year.

Thank you, all, for your kind comments and 'likes'. The garden has changed a lot, even in the last week. We are still getting frosty nights but it warms up quickly during the day - provided you stay out of the wind and in the sun.
Last year we bought several bags of 100 different crocus and iris to plant around. It seemed a lot at the time but the garden soon soaks them up.
The lizard normally has a tail, Skillen, but when it is attacked it drops it tail off and runs away. It grows a new tail later.

Lovely to see, Mr MB. After all that snow you had, it must be a real pleasure for you both. Nice to see 'Blue Pearl' without chicken wire over them!
Thanks for the 'Clairette' photo - it is like the one I have. :-))
