My Primula Auricula

Over the last year or two I have acquired a few of these little beauties, some of which are outdoors as Border Auriculas, but I have now bought one or two Alpines and have to admit that I am becoming addicted to them. I am sorry that the ones in the garden I do not have names for, unfortunately, so if anyone knows what they are called I should be pleased to know. I will show you pictures of some of them.

They are lovely Cinders, are they the ones the old fellas used to display on staging and become very competetive about?

Beautiful Cinders!

Thank you Terra.
Pamg, I think they are. They went out of fashion for a while, but I think their popularity is increasing again now. There are shows especially for them I know. I think Bjs could probably tell us more.
Thank you Nana.

Hi Hywel, yes you did say you were going to start a collection. We shall be able to swap notes then won't we. lol :o))

They are wonderful, Cinders ... for your next garden project I think you should make one of those Auricula theatres ... you know where the plants are displayed in small terracotta pots on shelves? ... It'll keep you out of trouble ... lol! ... :o)))

Oh Shirley, I have no room for anything else, although my friend Alan has promised to make me some brackets to fit over a wall so that I can make a trough into a small gravel garden for the alpine ones.

I like the sound of that ... good to have friends with DIY skills ... send him round when he's free! ... :o)

There are four main shows London, Birmingham Manchester and Bristol which is the one i used to run.Any one wanting to visit should check dates now as they all take place in April.Google Auricula societies and the information will be there,I am out of touch with dates.

Thanks Surreylad. Appreciate your comments, and I agree there are some lovely colours.

Thanks for that Brian, where can I find the details of that. I will look on the Auricula Society website. Not sure if I will be able to get there tho as I have to get someone to take me at the moment. Hoping to get to Pops Plants Open Day the week after.

You are building up a delightful collection, OH has collected them for many years, most of them died, the specials are not any good for the borders, but we still have a few of the ordinary ones going.....
13 Apr, 2012
DD when I came to yours I bought a large one in a pot that your OH didnt know what colour it was. I divided it up and planted them out not knowing what colours I had. So some of them are from yours, but I did have some already. I am very pleased with them all this year.

19 Apr, 2012
So is your H going to make you one ?

Cinders
Would not hazard a guess at Auriculas but your last picture looks the same as the one I posted yesterday
Primula Marginata 'White Linda Pope' it is as far as i can see identical to another one called 'White Lady'so take your pick.
think i was half asleep the first time I looked at them.
19 Apr, 2012
So it is Brian. Yours though if anything looks a little more white than mine, but apart from that looks the same. Showing my ignorance now, but is an auricula different from Primula Marginata ? I feel sure I must have had a label for it when I bought it, but must have lost it somewhere in transit.
