30 March 23.38 hrs.

In my bunk, reading “Treasure Island” (really, lol!), when heard, and felt, an almighty thud “out on deck”. Ran out to see what had caused it, and found…

The strong winds and sleet showers of the past 2 days have brought down parts of the neighbours’ fence on top of our newly-created shade “border”.

Skimmia rubra as she was on Saturday, now under the fence :-(

Our “golden beach” is now distinctly “pearly white”………….

In the foreground, a basket we planted up on Saturday, in the sunshine, with Lavender Peter Pan", Saxifraga “Peter Pan”, Potentilla “Nana” and some Arabis “Old Gold” (for luck, haha!).

The grasses, phormiums and cordylines are taking a battering (again)…….

As midnight approaches, the “PS Captain Kiddin’” seems to be taking on a ghostly white appearance…………………

Our “ship” was beginning to look quite good. Had hoisted the sails, but had to remove them again when the winds got up.

Shiver me timbers! Am back in me bunk again. Nothing to be done till morning light. Should have “seen” this coming, by the sky on our trip “ashore” on Sunday.

:-((

I heard on the news tonight that the weather is bad up there hope you dont get anymore damage.

The life of a pirate is very hard David. Too early to turn out the crew on a rescue mission. I hope they are keeping your spirits up. Time to break out the chocolate golden ducats and some iron brew. I would ban all these solid fences We use hit and miss fences which break up wind and let the sun through to the plants. We too are suffering from pounding gales and it is snowing again. I hate to think of the windburn being inflicted on my poor rhodos. The snow at least provides a warm blanket for the plants. If this is March going out like a lion bring on April Fools Day. Your latest project was looking great until this set back and it will recover.

not again ! there seems to have been snow or the threat of snow since november.. hope your 'timbers are not too shivery!!'

31 Mar, 2010

Snow !!!
Does the Captain need to look at his maps and charts ?
Has he steered the ship off course ?
Has he arrived at the South Pole ? I await your next blog, to find out where you've been ship-wrecked...:o)

Sorry about your plants and fence,David, but on a positive note, maybe you could have a temporary theme... David of the Antarctic, and his ship Discovery :o))
Children might like it, for now .....even if it doesn't float your boat...Hope the white stuff goes soon.....

31 Mar, 2010

Like you said, David, a pirate should have heeded the warning!!!
So sorry about your Treasures....Those lovely plants!!
`Hope you do not make your Neighbour walk the Plank for not having
a sturdy fence LOL

31 Mar, 2010

dry land here david but wind blown all the bins down the road .

31 Mar, 2010

I think we are having the March winds in April David as they do say if March comes in like a lamb it will go out like a lion and visa versa, and it did come in quite mild here. Its such a shame about the fence comming down on the Skimmia, but the rest looks great and the Old Gold is still there looking great.

31 Mar, 2010

sorry about your plants and fence David...... hope the snow doesnt last long...

31 Mar, 2010

Gor blimey David, you had me going then !!!!!!!!!. I thought you were going to say "PS Captain Kiddin" had been shipwrecked in the storm, in actual fact she looks quite surreal as does your beach and treasure chest .
, Shame about your shady area but it will pick up, even pirates have to do battle against Mother Nature it seems.........

31 Mar, 2010

Aw me hearties....sorry to hear you're under threat from the weather with fence pirates boarding amidships wrecking your treasure, I hope come daylight you were able to cast the fence pirate overboard and reclaim your treasure.

Your crew could set about stockpiling cannonsnowballs me thinks

31 Mar, 2010

Sounds like your having a real battle with the weather, David, but you will win! Hope things have eased for you and you are 'sailing on calmer seas'. If those fences aren't repairable, bet you can do something with the wood :)
Take care.

31 Mar, 2010

Oh David! Keep your chin up, me hearty. I hope the white stuff goes away VERY soon. :-(((

31 Mar, 2010

Kinda expected this to start:....."Captain's Log: Stardate 2010.03.30..." So whose mission have you been part of? Scott's or Amundsen's? sorry about the ice on your rigging.... this too shall pass!

31 Mar, 2010

Oh David...saw on the news you are taking a battering.Do take good care."Shiver me Timbers " Indeed !

31 Mar, 2010

Looks like Tinkerbell went slightly overboard with the fairy dust . . . hope it vanishes soon for you. : o )

31 Mar, 2010

What a shame the fence had to topple over that lovely Skimmia. :'( Makes you almost cry to see all that work under a fence panel & a ton of snow. Never mind, mi hearty, 'twil soo be o'er! Then you can set sail into the summer months & have a great adventure with your kids. :-)

31 Mar, 2010

As I was reading this, my husband had turned the TV over and was watching Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, how weird was that? Sorry about the damage to your project, I know a salty ole dog like you will soon get it fixed.

31 Mar, 2010

Spooky, Dottyd!!!! :-)

Well, Many Thanks for the great comments, which have made me laugh. :-D)

Tt, Bloomer and Lori, you have given me a terrific idea!!!!! Capt. Scott's ship "RRS Discovery" lies at anchor only 23 miles from here, in Dundee. I think we'll be boarding some day soon, to inspect the rigging, helm, supplies, etc. James and I have been once before, a few years ago now, so will be another "adventure". So, looks like we'll be heading north (?) to "Antartica" next week. :-))

Managed to inspect the wreckage. Nothing in the wood to salvage, so tossed it overboard, back to whence it came. There may be some crossed swords/cross words? over this soon. These people will never replace the fence (didn't expect "fencing" to come up so early in our theme, lol!

Main thing is, no plants damaged by the flimsy structure, Spring has resumed - and I have a week's hols, yippee!!

:-))

Yippee! Cap'n enjoy your adventures wherever they take you, cross swords fencing and all...... Happy Easter on the high seas to you and your crew

1 Apr, 2010
