Tawny Owl Babies

Well here we are again! So pleased today to see a baby owlett has emerged from our owl nestbox again this year. We think this must be the 5th or 6th year in succession tawny owls have used the box, we feel so privileged.
Only one big one in view this year, rather than two but so thankful. The photos are not too good as the baby is nestled inbetween the branches and foliage :-)
No doubt Mother isnt too far away, keeping a watchful eye and waiting for dusk so she can feed. Maybe tomorrow it will move to the next tree and then the next and finally away to create its own territory.
Update: So next day (Monday) we were so pleased to see a second, smaller baby had appeared on top of the nestbox. The original, much bigger baby was high up in the tree. I then walked through the pine trees and spotted a parent keeping a watchful eye over them, must be so difficult for them feeding them through the night and guarding in the day too, obviously nocturnal creatures. Here they are:

Oh Dawn another baby lucky you!! I haven't heard the owls at all this year, we have buzzards nesting nearby and they're always circling over the garden Rob thinks that's why ?

Thanks everyone. I've just updated the blog and added a couple more pictures. Another baby appeared on Monday :-))).
We have buzzards too Kathy, they fly over alot, usually with a couple of crows chasing them but really high in the sky. As the owls are nocturnal, not sure if the buzzards would bother them.

A lovely garden to raise their babies. Beautiful chicks, and excellent photos.
I remember as a little girl lying awake listening to the owls that nested in the firs that grew beside the chicken coop.
They raised a family year after year, not even the overhead dog fights and bombing of the house opposite disturbed them.

Thanks Wesson. Nice memories. We listen to them at night, we hear these babies squeaking and their mum and dad calling to them. We wander around and if course they can see us but seem happy
