Too wet to weed today so took pics instead.
This has very pretty yellow flowers in spring but it gets everywhere and difficult to get rid of
Love in a mist again pretty blue flowers all summer, it self seeds everywhere but is very easy to pull up.
The roots on these are so long and strong

Do you class Love-in-the-mist as a weed, then, Denise? I like it - and let it seed itself. It's one of those plants that you have for ever once you've sown it, isn't it. Yes - very easy to pull out unwanted seedlings.
Now celandines! They are dreadful to get rid of. :-(((

I agree its celandine and can be good in some of the wilder areas of the garden.but if you put systemic weedkiller on them as they are nearly over they take the poison down to the tuber and kills it. the top plant looks like some form of poppy. The bottom one looks like some form of sowthistle. I have those too. :o(

I do like Celendine Sandra but it does take over if not controlled. Love in a mist is everywhere in my garden so to some extent it is a weed Spritz.
Apologies SBG that is a poppy my favourite flower and it shouldnt be in here.

After they have flowered and when you see the seed heads sprinkle them where you want them Joanella the next spring you will have them everywhere.

will have to try this summer thanx :o)

Sadly, it only seems to be N. damascena 'Miss Jekyll' that does it - the other ones I've tried don't seed themselves. :-(((

nor me but their seeds have small hooks that help them get carried into the garden.

Actually a useful blog Drc, identifying some weeds, and importantly non-weeds. I have large oriental poppies which spread by roots, which are quite difficult to get out, as they fool you and only need a tiny bit left in the ground to get going again. I do like them, but not for them to take over in a smallish garden. Another thug I have is Campanula glomerata. Its a nice flower, but just walks over everything if it can and strangles them, or starves them to death.
At least with seeds you can pull them out, but those pernicious fleshy roots are difficult.

some weeds are nice flowers but like you say can take over, i like love in the mist, very pretty ;o))

I like it too Sanbaz, I tend to let it seed and then remove it if its too much but as I put it in the compost it isnt wasted.

good idea Drc, putting on composs, and at least you can controll it

They are very easy to pull up not like some weeds

i agree some you dare not let them take over, some just skim the surface and not so bad :o))

celendine is the yellow one Drc...i let this one do it own thing where possible., also the poppys and nigella. if they are doing no harm under shrubs then i leave them. as for the thugs...i do enjoy it when i get a huge root out...
