think I remember an experiment once which asked folk to please turn of unessential lights at night ? Dont recall where or when but seems like a good idea.

But did you see Mars? It was at its closest all year - to the left of the moon - it was really bright!

No I didnt see it but there werent any stars either. The moon was about at its highest and quite small so perhaps that made a difference?

Did you see the moon as it began to rise, we havn't any street lights and I saw it first sitting on the field hedge and it was so large and yellow that for a moment I wondered what it was...

it was huge....lots of lovely pics on here of it from all over....

Street lights seem to block out the stars. I remember very stary nights when I was little. There were only a very few small street lights in our village then.

i didnt realise how much difference street light made till i moved here...

It's sad really. I don't think we need all these street lights.

Good blog Drc. There have been a lot of concerns over the years about light pollution and how it affects the growing cycles of plants etc.
For me I look at the moon from inside the house. I don't go out after dark on my own as I had a nasty incident a few years ago. so there is a downside to no street lights

hope you didnt get to cold on your walk....

I've always been use to lots of street lights living in a town, when i go over to Derbyshire to my sisters, i'm not keen at all,as i can never see where i'm going proper at nights.

I wouldnt go out on my own Pipsq. We had a terrible tragedy in the village 18 months ago when a couple were walking home.

I love being able to see the stars, like you, Denise. Did you look at the shooting stars about 18 months ago? We sat out in the garden and watched them at around midnight onwards!
