The good & the not so good.

On the evening of the 14th it started to snow, next morning we had a total whiteness over everything, it looked so pristine & neat & wintery, indeed it was bitterly cold.
It has remained very cold ever since & we still have the snow although it didn’t stay pristine for long as when Ruby was let out she went mad zooming round & round & up & down too. It seems to invigorate her!

The days have been beautifully bright & sunny but with a chill, last night was the coldest we’ve had at -3C & all the plants are crispy.
I needed to collect a prescription for someone after 6pm so off I set for the next village. Well, I didn’t get very far – our hill road was sheet ice & I went over backwards. I laid there in the road for some minutes wondering what I’d damaged & how to get up & eventually shuffled myself over to the verge so I could stand up.My arm was hurting considerably.
A neighbour took me to a Doctor & he told me straight to A&E. The upshot is that I have broken my shoulder so no gardening for me till goodness knows when!

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear your news. I hope you are not in too much pain and that it won't be long before you recover, but take it slowly. There isn't much you can do in the garden when it's covered in snow anyway ... so I hope you'll be back to normal by the spring.

I never now why people say they enjoy snow. It's very dangerous, and depressing :(

Healing thoughts ... get fit again soon. x x x

Hope your shoulder recovers as quickly as possible. No digging, perhaps a little seed sowing in the spring.

Oh dear.....on a good deed too!
Our Paddy, loves dashing around in the snow too, yet he hates the rain and water generally! Strange dog!

Sorry to hear this hope you feel better soon

I think that the reason why dogs seem to be so joyfull in the snow is that it covers up most of the ground scents, so, on the whole, the wide world is theirs for the taking. As far as the rain, in the wild there is no one around to dry you off with a nice fluffy terry cloth towel and this attitude has carried over into domestication.

Sorry to hear of your fall always a bit of a shock may be worth you investing in some winter tracks to clip on to your shoes, we have to go down a hill to shops we have found they help a lot.

My elderly Mum fell and fractured her humerus ten days ago and is using a 'Collar and Cuff' ... I imagine you are doing the same. I hope it heals well for you.

The shoe tracks aka grippers are great. I wear them all the time in snow and ice. They are a lifesaver since at my age breaking a hip could be the beginning of the end. I also use a hiking staff for further stability.

Just catching up again, so I hope by now you are feeling a bit better ! Best wishes for a quick recovery !

Like Rose above, I'm also playing catch up!

Sorry to hear about your fall & broken shoulder. :-(( Hope you are well on the mend now, in the meantime you can read gardening mags, watch gardening programmes on TV or the internet! You can also do some browsing for things you'd like to put in your garden later in the spring when your shoulder has healed.

Get well soon but in the meanwhile look after that shoulder.

So sorry to hear you are in the wars G'finger, I had missed your post so didn't know, a fall shakes you up at the best of times but to actually break your shoulder must be so painful for you, bet you have since found other bruises as well, sincerely hope it heals well for you and try and keep your spirits up......
