Car Park Trees

I was noticing the trees they’ve planted in some car parks around here, and there are several interesting ones.
Shame they’re in car parks, where they probably don’t get noticed by people rushing about their daily business :o(
Here are two lovely Himalayan Birches (Betula utilis)with gleaming white stems.
Thanks to Feverfew for naming them :o)
They are right at the very back of the car park. I don’t suppose anyone ever notices them …
I love the bark :o)
.
This colourful tree is Liquidambar styraciflua, and it grows behind a fence at the side of a car park.
Thanks to Amy for giving me the correct name for it :o)
The leaves look colourful strewn all over the ground :o)
Here are some more Liquidambar trees …
.
This old Yew is badly damaged :-
Such a shame :o(
I think it must have been done when they were constructing the car park.
Nobody seems to care about it, or even notice it … but I’m glad they didn’t chop it down.
It’s growing back from the old trunk :o)
I was going to take some more tree photos, but it went dull and started to rain lol

Very quiet in your carpark!
20 Nov, 2012
It was on a Sunday afternoon ... it's usually quieter then.

It will be a beautiful car park when all fully grown.
I noticed our local organic veg shop car park has some trees in some very awkward places, when the trees have grown they will have to move the car park!

:o)
These trees have been there years. I think they must be very slow growing ones ...
I hope they won't move your car park too far away lol ;o))

I love trees Hywel. We have four silver birches in our garden , but the trunks aren't as white as these. I remember Alan Titchmarsh saying that you had to wash them in soapy water to get them whiter. I've never tried this!

wow they are stunning - never seen silver birch so white

Beautiful trees, Hywel. It just goes to show we need to keep our eyes open. Beauty is all around us :)

Lovely Hywel, especially the silver birches - gorgeous!!

It's true that we often fail to notice the natural beauty around us, but I do like the way trees are planted in car parks & along pavements. Sometimes I am in too much of a hurry to stop to admire them, but most of the time I enjoy them ...so much nicer than stretches of plain, ugly concrete ....someone wrote a song about that a few decades. Shame about the damaged tree. Hope it survives. I hate to see trees chopped down. Enjoyed your blog & photos.

The Silver birches are stunning Hywel I love the white trunks , we are hoping to go to Anglesy Abbey next week to see the trunks lit up with coloured lights in the grounds of the abbey , I think you might find that the ' Maples ' are Liquidamber styraciflua , I have a couple in my garden we also have some in our local carpark , I can send you a close up photo email if you would like to compare it ,I have a leaf on my desk :o))

Some of the displays of fallen leaves on the ground beneath the trees, have been just as lovely as when the leaves were still on the trees!

I'm sure lots of people will notice them Hywel. It's very imaginative of the authorities to plant such beauties- often you just get alders.

That's interesting about washing the Silverbirches with soapy water - Rose1949. We've got 2 Silverbirches in our rear garden. I love waking up and looking at them from our bedroom window, especially when the sunlight is on them. The colours of the leaves are unbelieveable... We've also got two old and established Ash trees... There are many in this area, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and checking the bark...

Thanks for reading my blog, and all your comments :o)
I wonder if the council washes the Silver Birches lol ... it's a wonder they haven't put our council tax up, in order to pay for it ;o))
Amy thanks for the information. I would be interested to see the photo :o)
Petaltracey I hope your Ash trees will be all right ...

Love the Maple trees and Silver Birch , shame about the Yew I like the bark too Hywel I look for shapes or figures in them as if they tell a story .

Great blog Hywel, its right what you say, people dont notice things when they are busy but glad you did, those trees are beautiful, the white of the birches and the red of the maples, fantastic, and that grand old yew reckon that is many years old to have a lovely thick trunk like that, it is possible that that yew has a TPO on it (tree preservation order) from the council.

Just goes to show what is so often under our very nose doesn't it Hywel? Really enjoyed seeing the trees, you have some striking photos here..\0/x

I'm going to put the photos on now Hywel so that you can compare them with yours :o)

What beautiful trees! There are a couple of wonderful ones - very large, and old - in the car park of a comparatively new supermarket we sometimes visit. I shall take a photo next time. Thank you for your lovely blogs, Hywel - they make me look a little closer at the things I so often take for granted.

They are lovely Hywel, the Silver Birch has always been a favourite of mine, I think it looks good at any time of the year, our retail park has trees and shrubs and the shrubs on the bank up to the road are smothered with berries and outside the casualty department at the hospital its orange, you cannot miss them.......

Thank you all for reading my blog :o)
Grandmage, I think the Yew probably does have a TPA on it ...
Thanks Amy. I'll have a look in a minuit ...

Very interesting Hywel, I'm going to be more observant next time I'm parking in town, I do notice the shrubby beds which often have fantastic autumn colour, I'll be having a look skywards from now on, after I've parked the car though....:0)). One tree I have noticed today is the gorgeous Norway spruce put up in the village square...:0)

I love the Liquidambars Hywel.....at this time of year I think its my favorite tree, your lovely photo's against the clear blue sky are a delight
I wonder if the birches are Betula utilis, I've one thats a similar shape and bark colour
21 Nov, 2012
A lot of the supermarket car parks have lovely planting which is well maintained.
21 Nov, 2012
the yew is my favorite Hywel so old and gnarly...and yet it survives..
21 Nov, 2012
:o)) I hope i'm right Hywel but I'm fairly sure they are the same :o))
21 Nov, 2012

Lovely pictures Hywel. I love trees and the world would be a sad place without them. When I see the many countries on the news that are just concrete it makes me grateful for the many beautiful places we have here xx

i love trees Hywel and the white ones are so beautifull, i always check out what they have in carparks, some are lovely and some not so lovely especially when they just plant lots of shrubs all the same, no variety, lovely photos :o))x

I love this blog, it's one of the ones I remember reading before I joined GoY, beautiful photos and it made me look more closely at Car Park Trees near me. It's also one of the blogs that convinced me to join GoY so I could comment on how much I liked them:)

Thanks for all your comments. Sorry I've been so long lol but sometimes I can't keep up with it.
My avatar has changed back to a cactus Melchisedec lol I think it must have been the Father Christmas one you meant.
I'm pleased to have helped you decide to join Louisa :o))
