A vast improvement :o)

I’m sorry to disagree with most of you, but the tall annuals in my front garden looked awful … so I got rid of them, and they’ve gone !
It looks much better now, and all the other little plants can breathe again :o)
The tall annuals were very scruffy, and had so few flowers that they just looked like weeds.
Also they choked the little perennials and shrubs that I’ve planted there.
I just had to get rid of them, and I feel relieved that I did it :o)
You must agree, it looks better like this …
.
Here’s the left side :-
.
The right side :-
.
I’ve kept the Red Flax – it wasn’t as bad as the other things …
These little Nigellas can now breathe too, and there’s more light for them.
I think they’ll open soon, now that they’re not being choked … :o)
As you can see, there’s still a lot of colour from the Begonias and Violas …
and you can see the different textures and colours of the perennials more clearly now also …
Yes, much better I think :o)

Hywel, I could tell you weren't happy and I am glad that you have got rid of all offending plants! I bet you took great pleasure in doing it!
It looks lovely and neat now and eventhough I liked it before, I can see why you wanted to change it a little.
I like love-in-a-mist - so pretty.

It is how you want it, Hywel, and that is the most important thing. And it certainly looks lovely! It is still full of colour and variety. It's hard to believe it's so new. You must be very pleased.

Hywel at the end of the day its your garden and you are the one that has to feel happy with it, it still looks lovely and such a cheerful sight, my Nigella have been flowering now since May, I love them, especially pretty with sweetpeas, I keep deadheading them and they keep on coming , I throw the seeds in the dog run and they keep multiplying, as you can imagine anything in there needs to be able to bounce back.....

It didn't look so bad in the photos, but in reality it was an awful mess.

Watch those Love-in-the-Mist Hywel. They seed all over

It's looking lovely, Hywel. I liked the 'Before' but maybe better suited to a back garden.

Rockiipeony, you have deleted your account before I had a chance to see your comment.
Thank you Tuesdaybear. I think so too :o)

Rockiipeony posted the same comment on many blogs, Hywel. I think it may have been a commercial venture!

Good riddance then :o) lol

You're like me then. I missed several days last week. Don't think I'll ever catch up lol
I deleted the 'before' blog because I was ashamed of how it looked in the photos :D
it was a mess, even though everyone said it wasn't.

Thank you for sharing the new look but I wish you had left the old blog. It helps to see before and after photos and it helps newbies understand where you are coming from. I find it is easy to make mistakes. Seeing what you felt needed to be corrected and how you did it is very educational. I much prefer the new look. Please keep the blogs coming.

Thank you Scotsgran. It was a tangled mess. People were kind and said it was colourful, but the colour actually came from the Begonias Flax and Violas ... which I've kept.
30 Aug, 2013
I have never had any success with flax. The red one is very attractive. The begonias are the only summer bedding plants I have ever used on a regular basis. They are superb no matter what the weather is like and will withstand neglect and do not need to be dead headed unlike the violas which seem to stop flowering if you let them set seed. Great blog thank you.

I always grow these small Begonias. I find them about the best bedding plants there are, and they can be kept over winter too :o)

I wish you had left the " before" photo on,Hywel because now I don't know what it was like. Looks nice & tidy now anyway.

I`m with you Hywel, whilst it was quite colourful before you couldn`t really see what was there it was such a muddle, now you can actually see what lovely plants you do have, and also appreciate the different textures, colours and shapes.
