Winter project #2

So my story resumes after a few days ‘resting’ with my next little job on the list.

Erect a poly-tunnel type greenhouse

Where to start?

Well this is as good a place as any!
My compost heaps and ‘stuff’ storage

Side view of compost heaps and ‘stuff’ storage

Pretty picture of my little angel Holly with …. A baby Holly, kindly sent to her by Hatter. (thats Madperth to you)

So on with the story

Clearing the compost heaps etc starts!

Thats not a bad lot of compost there, even if I do say so myself!

Spread it all over the area where the poly tunnel/greenhouse thingy is going!

Time for one of these me thinks!

A quick check of the ‘plans’

Make sure I’m doing it to schedule, bring in an expert supervisor!

Erect the frame!

Hmmmm Slight miscalculation I think? ? ? ? ? ?

No I’m not standing on anything………

Hammered these old tent poles in beside the frame legs and cable tied them together, just to give it some extra wind protection!

How comes she gets pizza?

And why have you got your hands in your pockets? ? ?

Never mind, put the cover on!

A quick shot of the inside before it gets to dark!

Part two will be putting in the accessories!
You will have to come back again to see them in.
My stomach thought my throat had been cut!

16 Oct, 2009

REally cracking on. BH must be putting an extra something in the cuppas

16 Oct, 2009

Hi SBG, How are you? I think the energy is all down to Carols Coffee!
Now Jen, you can't have both and you do realize that you will have to have the bottoms of your legs amputated just to get in to it?
Pip, Carol doesn't have to put anything extra in those coffee's, they can stand a spoon upright ! ! !

16 Oct, 2009

Either that greenhouse is a bit low or you've got one hell of a moustache :-)

16 Oct, 2009

Well done Digger! Its up at last! You like to dig sitting down, so the height shouldnt be a problem!!

16 Oct, 2009

Oh! That all tied in for once!! Wonders will never cease!

16 Oct, 2009

lacking in energy ian, send me some of carols coffee asap!!!

Victoria is 12 today and i have been up since 5am. she was so excited. been out to a nice restaurant for tea and have nicely got settled with the lap top.
her party tomorrow, 10pin bowling. then i have the washing etc to do ready before i go to the yorkshire dales on an ecology field week. really looking forward to seeing the same area in the autumn . was there in the spring too.
no gardening for mw this weekend :o(

16 Oct, 2009

Andrew, the greenhouse is vertically challanged, I'm going to have to dig down along the middle and put sides in to raise the beds.
Hatter, I do have to stand up some times! Lol

16 Oct, 2009

SBG, Carols coffee is 'seemples' just make your usual brew but replace the tea spoon with a shovel and your there!

16 Oct, 2009

Sorry pressed submit to early that time? I usually forget and have to write the comment out again!
Say happy birthday to Victoria from Carol and I and we hope her party is a roaring success.
That Ecology week sounds a lot of fun?

16 Oct, 2009

Looking good, Ian! :-))

16 Oct, 2009

16 Oct, 2009

SBG, Me too. :~)))

16 Oct, 2009

Ian you are so clever It all looks great

16 Oct, 2009

Awww Thanks Donnah, I'm blushing now! :~))))))))))

16 Oct, 2009

Well done Ian, my son has one of them on his allotment, you `ll be gardening in all weathers now, have you decided yet as to what you`re growing , oh and out of curiosity where is your compost heap going to be now, thats assuming you still have room for one.............

16 Oct, 2009

Hi LL, I'm determind to have some tomatoes (as I have had blight for the last two years!) and yes I have somewhere to put a smaller compost heap on the other side of the garden! (away from the patio!)

16 Oct, 2009

Job well done mate. You've been rather busy of late....

16 Oct, 2009

You done the job well Ian love the pittza bit he he was there a surprise for you in your wifes pockets, like a couple of fags missing with the drink he he.

16 Oct, 2009

Nice work, Digger! That tunnel's going to be just the right size for Holly...bet she'll love it in there!
Maybe you could market Carol's coffee as a new brand of rocket fuel?
Looking forward to seeing everything in the polytunnel...you included!
;-)
xxx

17 Oct, 2009

great job Ian now you're all set for the next season :))

17 Oct, 2009

It looks great Ian. It looked easy to put up...when I get one for the lottie you can come and put it up for me...and do a bit of digging too...it will save you coming back twice...ha.ha. :))))
Tell Holly I love her sunglasses...

17 Oct, 2009

Cheers Dan, Have you seen my list?

No suprises Morgana, she kept her hands in her pocket!

Thanks B. (Notice the correct spelling of your name!) Holly and I will be able to garden together, with me on my knees!

Grindle, this has been hiding in my shed since the begining of the summer so I'm so pleased to finaly have it up. :~))

Hi Lou, Holly says :~)))))))))) and I would be more than happy to come and help you put one up. :~))

17 Oct, 2009

Well you're used to gardening on your knees Ian, after all it is the correct place for a man! Was it meant to be taller than that then? Anyway, another job and blog crossed off your list - you put us all to shame. Well done it will be a great asset to your garden, somewhere for Carol to sit and watch you toil! lol :o))

17 Oct, 2009

When is the tunnel-warming party ?
Do we bring our own coffee ?
Who volunteers to bring along the cakes ?

17 Oct, 2009

i will forgive you ian for ignoring me lol , i still think you did a good job :o))

17 Oct, 2009

Ooooooooo San I'm soooooooo sorry, how did that happen? Thank you (blush) :~))))

Lily, have I done something to upset you recently? "On my knees? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Lol. I'm only doing it now because I haven't bothered for the last four years!

TT you welcome around any time you like and you can risk Carols coffee if you want to, but do you really want to be awake for three or four days? ? ? Holly makes fantastic fairy cakes and her chocolate crispy cakes are MINE ! ! ! ! ! ! Lol

17 Oct, 2009

Okay, that's a date... I'll risk it.....
...and Holly is definitely in charge of making the cakes. :o)

17 Oct, 2009

think we sent at same time ian, i know you wouldnt ignore me , heheh :o), how are you today, any plans?

17 Oct, 2009

TT, you'd be made very welcome but as you know we have a tiny two bed bungalow (or Digsalow as Lily calls it) and you would be sharing with the worst snorer in the world!
NO not me, HOLLY. She can rattle the windows out of their frames! ! ! Lol
Hi San, Thank you, I'm not to sure yet. I've got plenty to do but ikkle angel tends to get in the way. I am going to have to sort out the hight problem with the poly tunnel. I think that might mean digging out a central path and building raised beds!

17 Oct, 2009

bad news with the polly tunnel and think you are right, a raised bed would help alot but also alot of work to get it done, im sure you will sort things out but just dont rush, take your time :o)

17 Oct, 2009

Nice job - Can't wait to see it in service, but then, that's certainly another great blog! Did someone say party?

17 Oct, 2009

Great job well done Ian...

17 Oct, 2009

Yes, Hmhb.... we did say party :o)
...and looks like Holly could be our secret weapon against the Flower Pot People...
..going to be a good winter. Lol.

17 Oct, 2009

Upset me Ian?..........of course not.....as long as you know your place! LOL. When's the poly-party?

17 Oct, 2009

Party is on Ian's birthday... December, I think. :o)

17 Oct, 2009

Hi San, It's now done (Blog to follow, just a short one I think!)
Hmhb, thanks :~))) There's going to be quite a few more blogs this winter I think! ! ! Watch this space.
Lily, I do know my place, it's right here in front of this PC talking to you. :~)) The Poly party is as soon as everyone turns up. Holly is in charge of the cakes, yummy, TT is bringing the T, and you and I can sit back and enjoy! Lol
Thats right TT, the thirty second of Dectober. Lol

17 Oct, 2009

Party!!!!!!!!!!!...I like the sound of that but no tea or coffee for me....I wanna proper drink....your birthday is New Year's day then?.....
Cakes....yummy....wots this about choc crispy cakes?...they should be for the GUESTS...you can have em anytime.....I might have some sloe gin left...I could bring that!

17 Oct, 2009

I reckon if I bring the T to the tunnel in mid December, that won't be far away from Ian's birthday... Ian's work will be completed by then.

Tunnel will need balloons, and paper chains...

Party games would be good....
...Garden quizzes.... Pin the tail on the Digitalis ?

17 Oct, 2009

well done looks great, should fit lots of lants in there

17 Oct, 2009

cricky that was quick lol, lol :o)

17 Oct, 2009

OK then Lou's bringing the 'proper' drinks, TT you've been demoted to bringing the balloons and paper chains etc. Lol
Thanks Joanella, I hope so.
San, Us blokes don't mess around, especially when Carol gives me her secret coffee! ! ! Lol

17 Oct, 2009

lol, you`ll be awake all night then

17 Oct, 2009

Two mugs San! ! ! I might be up for the whole week. Lol

17 Oct, 2009

We must have party games...
maybe Madperth should be in charge of games ? Lol.

17 Oct, 2009

heheh ,,
what can i do for the party Terra? maybe some nice cakes, i like baking :o)

17 Oct, 2009

I agree TT, so the list of help so far is:
AA is in charge of the 'proper' drinks!
TT is bringing balloons etc.
Holly is providing the cakes! Yummie
and Hatter is providing the entertainment!
Lily is keeping me company on my bench!
and San is showing her latest range of jewelry

PS. What are 'proper' drinks anyway?

17 Oct, 2009

We did it again San, posting together!
Sorry but Holly is in charge of the cakes. Lol

17 Oct, 2009

lol just seen the comment on the jewlery ian lmso
oh sorry forgot holly was cake making bless

17 Oct, 2009

Okay, I'm bringing tea, balloons and paper chains...

If Holly is in charge of cakes, she might need an assistant, so Sandra could be soux chef...
Holly could advise her on how important it is to taste the ingredients...

Ian.... what will you be doing ?

17 Oct, 2009

Sitting on my bench chatting to Lily! TT

17 Oct, 2009

I missed your comment again San, I think it must be my bulging staring eyes courtesy of Carols coffee. Lol
As TT says she is going to need an assistant! :~P (Apparently that is a smillie licking its lips! ! !)

17 Oct, 2009

yes i could do that lol Terra, if i taste wont be much left heheh
right ian will try remember that one :o~p

17 Oct, 2009

Well I'll just have to get one of those enormous catering sized boxes of rice crispies and a couple of tonnes of chockie, slurp!

17 Oct, 2009

17 Oct, 2009

17 Oct, 2009

17 Oct, 2009

Sounds like I've got the best job at this shindig, sitting on the bench talking to you Ian.......ooooh what more could a gal(?) ask for!!
Are there any other men coming to this party or am I going to have to beat you all off our bench?

17 Oct, 2009

Well so far we have the catering team (Holly, TT Hatter and San) and us! Do you think I should invite Carol?

17 Oct, 2009

Of course Ian, but it's going to be a bit cold in December so she might need to wear 3 fleeces and another couple of duvets! We could have a bonfire - anything to burn in your 'junk' pile or shed? LOL

17 Oct, 2009

Errr Lily? Junk? I don't have JUNK, it's all valuble and impotant 'stuff' and I need it! ! ! But she can wear an extra duvet or three!

17 Oct, 2009

In what way are games catering, Digger? I COULD bring my boozy banoffi pie tho! And shortbread (if I can get the SPELLING right!) & tablet too, of course! But you'll need to invite David so I can cadge a lift! LOL!
OF COURSE you invite Carol!!!!

17 Oct, 2009

Well entertainment then, your still catering to our needs Errrrr I wish I could rephrase that but it still sounds wrong. Lol

17 Oct, 2009

Sorry to break up the party (even before it's started!) but I'm going to have to love ya and leave ya as I'm over-due a severe back massaging and it can't wait any longer so it's a fond Nite nite from me.

17 Oct, 2009

LMAO!! Yes, it DOES sound wrong!!!
Night night!

17 Oct, 2009

nite ian enjoy ya massage heheh

17 Oct, 2009

Great work again, Ian, mate! Takes forever to get down to the comment box! Aren't you a popular chappy?!

17 Oct, 2009

i just press END key balcony if you have one, dont have to scroll down, its so much easier

17 Oct, 2009

When I press end key San...it scrolls lengthways not down! What's going on there??!!

17 Oct, 2009

I didnt know that, San!!

17 Oct, 2009

I just tried it, Fluff, & it brought me straight down!

17 Oct, 2009

not sure about that fluff, try CTRL key and end key together

17 Oct, 2009

yes mari isnt it better

17 Oct, 2009

Nope...still doing the crab thing. I have a mouse for my laptop anyway & it's pretty quick to scroll with that.

17 Oct, 2009

maybe because you have the mouse plugged in,, not sure fluff, i use touch pad

17 Oct, 2009

Hmmm...on pain of sounding like a broken record...nope! Tried that too...I have Home to scroll left, End to scroll right then Pgup & Pgdown which are self explanatory but they are very, very slow! I'll ask the computer wizard who hangs out behind me in the living room talking b******s to old sailors...he'll know.

17 Oct, 2009

LOL! Thats an idea Fluff! How many old sailors have you got inyour living room???

17 Oct, 2009

yes i have PGUP nd down like you and the END key and home which takes me to the top of page again, think you have a mix up somewhere,,i take it you mean hubby lol

17 Oct, 2009

Usually only 2 at any one time...hubby & the one he's yacking to...men can't multi-task talk didn't you know? Heh heh I'll get flagged for that!!

17 Oct, 2009

lol fluff, i know exactly what you mean :o))
anyway im off now so hope you figure it out fluff, nite :o)
nite mari ,:o))

17 Oct, 2009

LOL! Night, Sandra! Sleep well!
Yes, Fluff, I DID know that! LOL!

17 Oct, 2009

Night San...sleep well.

17 Oct, 2009

When I said it takes forever I meant that reading it it took a long time to get to the comment box!

Anyway someone said a few days ago if you press the end key it'll take you to the end of the page - so I've been doing that for a couple of days & it's great - at least for the pages that you have read most posts & don't need to start at the top.

I find the HOME key takes me the top of the page - what a relief form having to scroll down page after page to read perhaps one or two comments!

I sent a message to Peter a few weeks ago about long pages asking him if it would be possible to have the new messages first on the page, he wrote back saying they would bear it in mind for a future upgrade of the forum.

17 Oct, 2009

Woah!! I just found this blog........where are you getting all this energy from ????? Well done on the constructions job........you'll just have to trim 6" or so off the bottom of your legs. LOL
So birthday in December eh? A Saggitarius like me!! Only the best people have birthdays in December! LOL. So, what can I bring to this party? Custard Creams?

18 Oct, 2009

More like coffee creams Gilli!!

18 Oct, 2009

Well GoY is so educational, the 'end' and 'home' keys are brilliant (never noticed them before - in fact I don't really know what most of the keys are for!) Thanks for the tip Fluff.
Great suggestion Balcony, let's hope it happens.
I was thinking of asking if pics could be shown bigger, or have facility to enlarge - anyone else think this a good idea or know any reason why it's a stupid question technically?

18 Oct, 2009

think it was my tip lily but its ok lol, how are you today, is the sun shining there lily?

18 Oct, 2009

I think thats a great idea to get photos bigger lily2.......
You have a lot of work to get through ian...............

18 Oct, 2009

Fraid not San, it's tried once ot twice but not made it, it's bright though but a bit chilly. Sorry you're right, great tip - must just get into the habit of using it Lol

18 Oct, 2009

lol lily, its rain here now and very misserable indeed :o((

18 Oct, 2009

Thanks Gilli, It's all to do with the coffee that Carol gives me!
Cheers Balcony, what can I say except :~)))))))))))))))))
Holly, thank you, yes I do. I wrote a list somewhere but I can't find it now! ! !
Lily and San, we had a lovely day today, sunshine and no wind or rain. We went to Matlock for a run out and had a wander down by the river, played in the play park and even had a ride on a train! ! ! :~)))))

PS. Oooo yes please Gilli, we've run out again. Lol

18 Oct, 2009

I asked Peter about that too. I also asked him about a way of putting clickable links in, but we will have to wait a little long for alterations.

Nevertheless, if more people on GoY were to write to him, (using the "Contact us" link at the foot of the page) then he may be persuaded to do something. :-)

18 Oct, 2009

It's brilliant Ian. Just think of all the things you'll be able to start off in that.

19 Oct, 2009

Cheers Hywel, I hope so. :~)))

19 Oct, 2009

Ian what have you got in that compost, it must have been standing in it when you were putting up the polly that caused you to shoot through the roof, still it should do wonders for your veg. Please tell Holly her shades are lovely she looks as if she`s all set for the stage, and if she`s as much imagination as her dad she should go far.
Once again a great production.
With help from San on getting to the bottom of the page its a good one all round.

20 Oct, 2009

Cheers Stroller, I was born 24 inches tall, so in fact I am the tallest dwarf in the world! ! ! I've only ever grown four foot five inches in my life. Holly loved those specks and was devistated when she broke the leg off about half an hour later. :~((

20 Oct, 2009

Poor wee thing! We'll have to look out for another pair!!

20 Oct, 2009

Awww your all sweetness and light today/last night? I do so easily get confused. :~))

21 Oct, 2009

Hand now dropping off scrolling through all these msg's. I was thinking to knit you a pair of knee pads for when you get into your new polly tunnel (fab job!) just wonder if you have a fav colour? Love Sue x

21 Oct, 2009

Awww Sue that would be great. I do most of my digging on my knees so you will need to use steel wool for them. Lol
Blue, most definately is my favourite colour! Lol
Thank you very much! ! ! :~))))))))))))))))))))

21 Oct, 2009

That is my fav colour too so as soon as pos I will unravell all my Brillo pads and get stuck in!! lol

21 Oct, 2009

LMSO Sue. :~)))

21 Oct, 2009

Where will you get blue brillo pads?
Sweetness & light? Nah, just not well! LOL!

21 Oct, 2009

Whats up with the Hatter tonight then?

21 Oct, 2009

Ear infection! :~(( Knocking me dizzier than usual! I've had it for a week now! Though I AM keeping my eye out for a pair of sunglasses for Holly! Mind you, they're thin on the ground at this time of year!

21 Oct, 2009

Oh dear :~((
Hope you get rid of it sooner rather than later !

21 Oct, 2009

So do I! Its really annoying! Mind you, I'll lose my spare tyre at this rate! Starving, but not keeping much down! Blah!
Other than that I'm just fine!! LOL!
You ok??

21 Oct, 2009

Regretting all that digging today but I know the perfect cure.
Carol's magic hands. Lol :~))

21 Oct, 2009

Lucky you! I'd love a nice massage right now!

21 Oct, 2009

I think it's an early night tonight for me! I can just see it now, Carol massaging essential oils into my back while I drift off into a peaceful (for me, I snore!) sleep. Lol

21 Oct, 2009

Shut up, you're making me jealous!

21 Oct, 2009

Ahhhhhhh heaven. CAROL it's bed time, grab your oils and things. Nite Hatter. Lol :~)))))))

21 Oct, 2009

Night! Jammy sod!! LOL!

21 Oct, 2009

Morning Hatter, I had a wonderful nights sleep ! ! ! :~)))))))))

22 Oct, 2009

Blah! I didnt sleep til after sun-up!

22 Oct, 2009

OH I am sorry to here that, what's up with your ear?

22 Oct, 2009

I've got some stupid infection in it! Its driving me up the wall!

22 Oct, 2009

Have you been to see the quack quack?

22 Oct, 2009

No point. I cant take antibiotics so I'm having to use lavender oil, & it works, but slowly!

22 Oct, 2009

Well keep warm and stop here all day!
No excuse to go out at all :~)))

22 Oct, 2009

Got to go to work tonight! :~((
Pm'd you!

22 Oct, 2009

Read it.

22 Oct, 2009

Pain in the proverbial, but c'est la vie!

22 Oct, 2009

As you say, but keep smiling ay!

22 Oct, 2009

Of course! I was even smiling as I walked away! Not for long, but........
I'll just move on, to whatever!

22 Oct, 2009

22 Oct, 2009
