Thanks Eileen and Rose, yes it was a lovely morning despite this unseasonal weather! We’ve had our log burner on this weekend, keeping warm. I’m pleased we’ve had rain to fill up the water butts mind you!

Lovely photos, and what a happy day for your Mum-in-law. As you say, so much cooler this weekend, when last weekend it was so hot we were sitting in the shade. But the rain has done wonders for the garden - and for my muscles - having a rest from all that watering!

They're all very beautiful, but I love the yellows. Glad OH's Mum had a good birthday.

Thank you Sheila, she was happy just to have us over! As you say, the rain has been beneficial hasn’t it! Plus we can have a break to recharge!

Hi Julia, thank you, she seems to do so well with houseplants, especially orchids. These are all the original plants she bought from day 1. Seem to thrive in her environment and whatever she does re. Care.

Julia, I don’t blame you! I have struggled over the years. I have one in one of my back bedrooms upstairs...it hasn’t flowered since the first few blooms. This is despite advice on how to maintain and care for it!

My moth orchids thrived on neglect. I knew a chap who had a collection and he said people couldn't keep them because they were overwatered. (which was what I was doing.) After that, I didn't look back : one good soak and drain a week! Used to rebloom a treat. I don't have them now because they got too straggly.

What more can I say - there are some beauties there. So leased the party went well.

Hi Anget, that’s what OH’s mum said - once a week. Sometimes we care too much for the plants and they don’t actually need it.

I'm so pleased mum-in-law enjoyed her birthday, despite the weather, been a bit touch and go lately as to whether you would be able to celebrate together hasn't it..
The orchids are absolutely stunning, I cannot have them here, kiss of death as soon as they enter my home, I've tried everything over the years had advice from many people to no avail, I've given up trying now as its not fair on the orchids...

Truly lovely orchids but the colours of the 4th and 5th one are just fabulous.

Orchids like our house which is quite cool most of the time and they really do thrive on lack of attention! I spray them with the special orchid spray you can buy and just water them about once a week.

What a beautiful selection , your mum must be an expert at taking care of Orchids ...

hope you all enjoyed the birthday, yep not the warmest we had a bbq with the kids yesterday, about a week to late I recon as weather has certainly changed. mind you it must have been a bonus getting to take photographs of the orchids, they are really lovely looking plants and I bet your oh's mother is really chuffed with them.

What a snazzy group of orchids she has. What a sight to see all these in bloom simultaneously. How nice to be able to pop in to use the facilities. Hopefully by now the showers have past and you are enjoying more pleasant weather.

Yes she is a bit of an orchid whizz I should say! I’m not very au fait with house plants, especially orchids, sadly..
The weather here has been a bit hit and miss for many of us..catching time between the showers!
Today isn’t too bad, milder and dry, but the week ahead isn’t looking like summer here..

The weather here in New York is perfect - warm, sunny blue skies with a gentle breeze.

Glad you and family were able to celebrate. The orchids are gorgeous. I've grown them for years with no problems...(feel a blog coming on).
