Ornamental grasses, especially for Eve!

I’ve picked up a few new ornamental grasses…for the garden and Eve! She, like other cats, just love to chew and nibble!
I had ‘pruned’ two of my grasses, recently, then I realised perhaps I should’ve just run my hands through them to remove any old/dead grass.
I’m quite liking adding grasses in between plants as ‘fillers’.

Eve will be in heaven and spoilt for choice! I like your fillers, especially the last photo.

Thanks Daylily! I’ll bet your other ones look really nice and effective in the sunshine! I’m guessing it’ll be a cat’s teeth marks on your stipa!! 😬

Thank you, Ange! I’m kind of hoping it keeps her away from one our neighbours mass prairie planting!!!

The stipa flowers glow in the evening sun, looks amazing, yes it's probably the cats then :-))

OH can't abide grasses of any sort, but I manage to slip a few in here and there - even he is not brave enough to pull they up once they have got a home. I bought some Night Scented Stocks from the GC and before they go out (bearing in mind frost) I was in two minds whether to nip the tops out so they bushed out a bit. Next time I looked at them, the decision had been made for me, the peacock had the tops out of all of them, hopefully they will recover, they are now out of reach, out of the frost and being molly-coddled.

They sound lovely, Jane! Bet they swish too!

Honeysuckle, my OH isn’t overly keen either..I tend to do the same as you!
Oh what a shame about your stocks! I do hope they recover too, bet, the scent is really something! Sounds like you’ve got them protected pretty well!

I never thought of using grass as a filler but now you've given me some ideas. I like the wispy habit and being able to see what's behind it. So many varieties to choose from. You made some excellent choices.

I’m with you all the way on grasses Kate. Looks like you might have chosen Anemanthele (1st pic)? my favourite! It will eventually seed itself around. It’s evergreen so doesn’t need cutting back ... loads of help available on Knoll gardens website, which you probably don’t need 🙂.

Thanks Paul, they seem to fill the spaces nicely, I am liking the grass colours, highlighted when the sun is shining. There are so many different ones, I’ve only chosen the smaller varieties as I’ve a small back garden.

Thank you, Shirley! I’m pleased you’re an ‘ornamental grass lover’. Thanks for the info on the first pic, I bought a couple from a little nursery and the label didn’t specify.
Also, I’m very happy you’ve offered more info to help with the care and maintenance too, much appreciated. 😊

Thank you, Julia! My memory is bad this week, I have just checked your messages...I put it down to being back to work resuming normal duty!!! It’s been a busy one!
Thank you kindly, I’ve just sent you a PM xx

must confess grasses are not my thing, but planted properly [as here] I appreciate what they add to the garden. Kate have you been to Scampston walled garden [Malton way] they have amazing grasses?

I love grasses too Kate! They look good anywhere! I have the second one and its gone wiry. Not sure why!
The one in my front garden is enormous! Not sure of the name of this one.

My size of Grasses and Sedges. I like your choices. I've just realised your first pic is of a bird's bottom!

Thanks, Eileen, many of my patients really don’t like them either..I’m pleased you think I’ve planted them in the best way.
I haven’t been to Scampston, but, I definitely will be going soon! Thanks for the recommendation 😊

Thank you, Rose. Another kindred spirit! I’m wondering if they need a pull through with your hand to rejuvenate it? I think I should have tried this before I chopped one down - although, I’m hoping it shows signs of new growth soon.

Thanks Sue! Yes, you’re right, it’s the bottom of my rustic metal bird! I’m trying to soften its ‘edges’ with the grass!

They do look nice scattered "in amongst" Must confess I've only tried one once and it did seed around quite a lot. Sorry can't remember the name. But the cat adored pouncing on it for some reason and got a lot of pleasure from it! (So did we, watching...) So there you are Paul, see if your cat likes some!

Good advice for Paul, Sue!

I do that Kate, but it just keeps growing!

Kate, I do like the way you have used the cobbles and pebbles in your garden. They really do set the grasses off, lovely!

Thank you Shirley! That’s very kind, I’m pleased you think it looks good ☺️
