News on Jake

We took Jake to the vet again today for blood test results. The news wasn`t good I`m afraid and it looks like he`s starting to fade. It seems his blood platelets are far too low, only 30 when they should be anywhere between 180/500. He had some more blood tests but without going into detail the next lot of pills that he will probably be given will be “the end of the road” to quote our vet. I`m afraid I shed a few tears then and I`m not one for crying in public however bad I feel, I think it finally sunk in just how poorly Jake is and how desperate the situation. There is nothing that can help him now but as long as he`s pain-free and still a happy boy then we will soldier on. He still likes his walks even though they are no longer than 15 mins and then at a leisurely pace and once he`s home he falls into a deep sleep. He`s not eating much apart from Tesco`s cooked chicken pieces (he`s becoming very choosy!) and the odd hard boiled egg…hand fed of course. The vet sent his blood test by Special Delivery and she took it to the Post Office herself so we get the results by tomorrow evening so hopefully we will get an even clearer picture by then.
It`s strange how even a sad time like this funny things can still happen. We only live a few roads away from the vet but as Jake had had two short walks already I decided to drive him there. We usually go in Jim`s car but he`d already put it in the garage so we all piled in my little Clio. Jim in the back and Jake beside me in the footwell of the passenger seat. At least that was what should have happened. Jake decided that the footwell just wouldn`t do and climbed into the passenger seat and curled up. He wouldn`t get down so I put the seatbelt around him and he sat up just like any other passenger would. At that moment a woman walked past, looked into our drive and Jake sitting in the front seat of the car and did a double take….it was hilarious. May be you had to be there to see the funny side but it`s a moment I will alsways remember Jake for. :o)

Bye for now. :o)

So sorry to hear about your hard times with Jake. He sure looks like a handsome boy in the picture......they are all marvelous beings that make our lives happy with every wag of their tail....and they surely are missed when their time comes. I lost my pomeranian 2 years ago when he was 17.5yrs. old and boy was that a tough one....from my own experience and also because I'm a veterinary nurse...the thing to keep in mind is not to allow them to suffer. If they are still living comfortable ...enjoy all of your time with him...those memories will never be forgotten!

It happens to all pet owners Sandra. It is sad for you. What a lovely photograph. Your grandson is a beautiful child and Jake looks shiny and healthy there.
