Gardening Therapy.

You cannot beat a busy time in the garden to get rid of those blues ( Been very down since losing dad)
As it was halfterm and the weather has been very good to us, I spent a couple of days helping my daughter, we moved the little shed that is winter quarters for the guinea pigs, its the toy shed in the summertime…

That frees up the little patio near the pond and has completely altered the look of that side of the garden, needs tidying up as the shed was hiding a multitude of sins..

It wasn`t too difficult, the poor shed has now been moved four times since it was purchased, lol. looks quite neat in its new home and now the sun will shine into it in the afternoons so Zelda will be able to sunbathe…

After tidying up we then set to and built one of my daughters xmas gifts…

Natty piece of equipment and its quite strong, two shelves and the lid lifts up, it fits nicely between the windows, the house faces the same way as mine so the sun hits that spot from early morning until nearly sundown, easy enough to move in the summer as it will get too hot..
My daughter has been given one of dads greenhouses but at least she can make a start on her list of things to grow this year, the glasshouse will hopefully be up and ready to use in a few weeks, we have made a start on clearing the ground ready for the base, moved lots of plants and three rose bushes, I`ll post a pic when we get it done..

Its not all going on in her garden I`ve also made a start in my own, set out some of my own seeds, planted up some Dahlia`s in pots and been checking over my geraniums..

That two weeks of snow and ice caught them a bit but they are all showing signs of new shoots..

Signs of spring, violets showing, I know they can take over but I like them and they are confined to my raised bed..

Wallflowers, this clump started opening before xmas..

This little beauty has been in for four years and this is the first time its flowered, mega delight when I spotted it today..

A little memory from mum and dads garden.

Needs a brush and scrub up but the birds love it.

Not a bad start and I feel a lot better in myself….

Well done Lincslass . . . I'm sorry you've been feeling down, but you've done absolutely the right thing. Just achieving a few jobs in the garden is therapeutic. :)

I'm glad some gardening helped raised your spirits Sue. It's a tough time you've been through. I like that thing your daughter had for Christmas. I wouldn't mind one myself lol.
And isn't it great when everything starts to grow back after the winter :o)

Im please that you were able to get a bit of garden therapy :) It's great that you have all those memories of your dad to keep you going :)
He will be most please things are going to use. I just love that old bird bath.
We all need to 'chat' to someone in the garden I think - I just talk to myself or one of the pets. Although I do have fond memories of my grandad doing his veg etc every year. I wish I had stuck in and learned more :)
Thank you for sharing your private thoughts with us :)

Hi Lincs, isn`t it a great feeling when you get the first jobs of spring under your belt, and lovely to see the violets and wallflowers heralding whats to come.
The loss of your dad has obviously been hard to come to terms with but I`m sure as time ticks by you will have plenty of happy memories of the times you shared together.

I do so know what you mean Sue. I have been quite poorly for most of January, think it was a delayed reaction I to losing Paul in September, but yesterday i managed to get out and catch up with some of what should have been done in the autumn. It gave me a real lift.It helps to think that keeping things going is what they would have wanted us to do.

Hello Lincs, you're doing exactly the right thing, I lost my Dad 32 years ago but I was only young, a teenager, at the time. It'll get easier, pet, I promise. Just get involved in your lovely garden, it'll help fill your head with nice thoughts.xx

Thanks for the blog, LL, there's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, and probably said better than I could! but gardening is wonderful therapy - getting dirt under your nails and an ache in back and knees and seeing that you're creating something ...

YoungDaisy, this is my very first garden, only tablecloth size and only been here about 18 months - I knew I wanted a garden but I had no idea how much it would de-stress - I used to have houseplants, at one time nearly 100, counting the babies that I potted up when bits fell off the parent while I was repoting them - Spiders, mostly, which I grew to give away. That was good - but this is better!

Nothing like a bit of sun and exercise to make you feel bettwe! Nice work!

Best therapy ever,Lincs..and nice to have your own private thoughts when you are out there,in your own space...:o)

Lots of good work done there, Sue.
I'm glad the gardening therapy has worked for you.

I hope that, as the weather improves, and gardening gets into full swing, you'll feel even better. :o))) xxx

Nothing like a spot of gardening to lift ones spirits, a difficult time when one loses a parent, all the best and keeeeeeeeep gardening!!

20 Feb, 2012

When I go out in the garden I never have a plan I just drift from one thing to another - and I find that very reassuring somehow - so any blue thoughts become less stressful - my you look as if you have a plan - ll those pots of plants well underway - thanks for sharing Marigold

go with the flow is the best way to do things at times - I'll go into my garden with a definite aim in mind and four hours later, realise I've done a lot of things, but not the thing I went out to do! But I drifted with the flow of what was there to be done at the time, and that was kind of soothing; interacting with the plants, listening to what they had to tell me and going along with that rather than imposing my will on them

25 Feb, 2012

There's nothing like a bit of gardening to lift your spirits and its so nice that you still have your mum and dad in the garden with you.

I did laugh at the shed being moved four times, Lincs! ... Let's hope this is will be the final home for it ... love those Violets and how lovely to see that early Wallflower ... mine have lovely foliage but not many buds so far ... I agree with all the comments on gardening being so therapeutic ... just drift off into my own little world ... lol! ... :o)
