Best Friends and Playmates or My New Gardener....

Brynner has a new best friend, Harriet the newest addition to our household, in his mind she is his new toy and someone to keep him company ..

That was Harriet when she first came home, she was born on Xmas Day and we collected her when she was 8wks old.
We were wary as to how Brynner would react to her at first, didn’t think he would be nasty or anything but he is a big lad, we didn’t want him to hurt her accidentally..

We introduced them slowly, Harriet was only as big as Brynners head at first, pleased to say he was very gentle with her, by the third week we were allowing them to play together, still under supervision of course.

Brynner missed Morgan, who as many of you know was daughters Choc/Lab, we’d sadly lost him last August, he was checking out the place Morgan used to sleep every day, never really wanted to play and rarely went down the garden unless I was with him, soon as Harriet arrived Brynner became more alert again, very playful and within a couple of weeks he’d also lost a lot of the weight he’d gained over the winter. It very soon became obvious that little Harriet was going to be the boss though, as with all terriers she is very speedy and that goes for rough and tumble playtimes.

The garden for her is a playground, we now have the little wall to the right of the patio empty, its her digging area, at least its not in the middle of the lawn or one of my beds or borders, I have also lost half the planting from near the bottom pond and have had to rescue the bed at the back of the fishpond as well…

Sherryl bought her a little paddling pool hoping it would keep her out of the fishpond,( that didn’t work) Harriet absolutely loves the ponds, little madam is in the fishpond every day…
This morning I put her pool on the lawn, threw some coke bottles in it and then let her play..

It was so funny, she promptly took the bottles out one at a time..

Back over to the fishpond to where the plants are..

Came back with a stalk, if not allowed in the pond, Harriet was having something from it to where she is allowed to play..

This is Harriet, all fluffy after her play in the pool and pond..

How could you tell her off when she looks as cute as that…..

Oh my...you got a terrier! Even after all my stories about Molly! Lol! She's gorgeous! Thats so funny, her taking something from her pond (everything belongs to the Terrier) to put in her playpool. She looks a proper character....good luck! ;)

Ahh... what a lovely addition to your family, she certainly keeps you on your toes! I' m really a cat person but Harriet is so cute and cuddly! Atleast she doesn't bring in worms, frogs, chicks, mice and lots more! My cats like to help me in the garden so when I'm digging a whole to plant something they come and dig too!

She's growing well! Our new puppy ( a cairn terrier ) is the same, a little under 20 weeks old and he just wants the pond!! Teething lots too so lots of plasttsic bottles and butter tubs to hand! May have a look at a children's paddling pool for him, he isn't enjoying the heat we're currently having!

She is SO Cute!!! As if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth lol. When I got Shadow, it was a bit of a shock to the system having a puppy again, makes you realise how good your older dogs are. Sorry story about your pond did make me laugh, makes me glad we don't have a pond anymore as I'm sure Shadow would be in it every chance he got. Sounds like not only will she keep Brynner on her to3s but you also :-).

We have never had a female before, she is the most argumentative puppy we have ever owned, I kid you not that little lady can and does argue with us, the one who actually spoils her most is hubby, he lets her get away with blue murder....

Sorry, I called Brynners a she. He is lovely. Back in Kent, Bens best friend was a Flat coat retriever called JJ, is that what Brynner is? JJ is the most loving, totally mad dog I have ever met. Him and Ben got on so well. He lives only a couple of doors from my old house in Kent and for a good year after we moved, he was still trying to take my friend up our old drive looking for Ben. I knew Ben would miss him terribly as well as we walked together everyday, that he was the main reason we got Shadow, company for Ben.

What a wonderful story, with a happy ending. I'm so pleased Brynner now has a new friend to play with. Harriet will no doubt help to keep him young and active as she looks a little rascal, but oh so cute!

Thankyou all, no doubt there will be many moments with Harriet and Brynner, sometimes the little Madam confuses Brynner as well as us, even the cats have accepted her , Tipsy at the ripe old age of 18yrs now just completely ignores and Toffee just jumps up high when he's had enough....
Jen, you are correct Brynner is a Flatcoat, I agree they are very affectionate and devoted to their owners, not an ounce of aggression either....

There was 3 in my old village and like you say, none of them had any aggression. Heard someone call them the Peter Pan of the dog world as they never grow up :-). If I thought I could have got away with it, I would have kidnapped JJ and moved him up here with us. In fact am expecting a call from his owner tonight to say how he got on at vets today as she found a lump on his paw.

My parents used to breed golden flat haired retrievers or flat coated as well as curly coated labradors when I was young. I should have recognised Brynner as one. I don't think they have an aggresive bone in their bodies although I do remember them being very protective of my siblins and myself.

What a wonderful story, Lincs! Glad to hear they get on so well together! Looking forward to reading more about their antics in the future.

I so enjoyed this blog, Lincs, Harriet is so cute and funny. Thank you for posting it as it brightened up a very wet and cold day. Made me wish I could get another dog but I doubt we shall now. Please send more stories of the two friends.

I refer to her as Hurricane Harriet or Madam, everything is done at top speed, I admit she takes a lot of looking after but I don't regret getting her, she certainly keeps me on my toes...
