Those falling leaves.......

Yesterday I cut the grass and blew the leaves. Great!
Today they are as bad as ever.
It is the job I hate the most in the garden.
I have been cutting back the brown leaves today and took some photos of the fading colour in the garden.

I used to drive 3 miles to the village where there are Beech Trees, just to sweep them up to put in my wire netting cage. I think they make a garden look very professional.
They are the most nutritious of leaves.
Use them for mulching round plants in the hot summers,
so they go back into the compost naturally.

I collect the leaves, Diane. That's what takes so long. Best leaf mould there is.
The trees look amazing here, Lincs, but we have had a lot of wind so the leaves are falling.

Beautiful photos.

Around here they are only just beginning to turn Linda, still looks green in most places with the odd colourful one mixed in, with the hot dry summer we have had, one would have expected an early fall but its working the opposite way, as in our gardens, the trees and hedgerows are lasting well, nature really is wonderful isn't it.....

Your garden still looks very colourful.

Its always a pleasure to see your garden Linda, at whatever time of year. And a scattering of leaves on a perfect lawn like yours can look very attractive and seasonal...

Your garden looks wonderful Linda despite the leaves at least you don't get thousands of seeds embeding anongst your plants and large piles of pigeon birds poo amongst the leaves along your path every day making it impossible to pass with out it getting all over your shoes in my case wheel chair wheels.

Lovely autumn photos. The leaves look nice on the ground. It's the season for them to be there and they look natural.

Very nice garden - love all the autumn color. I don't worry too much about the fallen leaves. I keep the walk & driveway cleared, then clean up the rest once the trees are bare.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I am a Scorpio so autumn is my time. I love the colours too, Hywel, Bathgate, Stera and Siris. It is certainly seasonal and natural having a scattering of leaves about. I worry about the lawn if there are too many leaves. The path, being on a slope, becomes dangerous too. It isn't good to watch visitors sliding down the path.
We used to have a forest of sycamores on the lawn, 3d.
It hasn't happened for a while now.
We have our bird feeders in among the shrubs so the pigeon poo feeds the plants. It sounds horrible getting it on your wheelchair wheels.

I have no lawn just wide beds which the trees ver lap and my path so I can't do any thing to prevent it.

Why is it that fallen leaves on other people's lawns ( like yours) look rather nice, but on our lawn, they just look a mess?!!
I really like your last two photos as well.

Yours is a beautiful garden Linda but I can understand what a chore all the fallen leaves can become, especially on the drive way.

Oh I do agree with Linda: I also hate clearing leaves. It's a never-ending job.
Oddly the ancient oak, as I have mentioned elsewhere, is dropping large twigs , some more than 12 inches long, rather than dropping acorns and leaves this year. At least they are easier to pick up!

Well, I am off to blow the leaves off the grass and paths again. The blower makes a difference. With so many trees and a large garden, raking would be a nightmare.

A task that gets harder very year, and you do have a lot of trees, but you also have a beautiful garden....

I love your garden Linda, you sure are in for an ongoing task with all the leaves, its wonderful for most of the year being surrounded by all the trees and wonderful shrubs, then it gets to this season and they are at first stunning as the colours change, then a nightmare as they undress.....Lovely photographs despite the leaves....
