Red sky in the morning shepherd’s warning so the old adage goes… at 07:20 this morning this was the sky.
By 09:00 it was raining…

Lovely sunrise Moongrower, we have had some fabulous sunsets down here recently.

Beautiful photos, Mg - but oh dear - more rain! The wind dropped here this morning - but it's back now. I don't like battling against it, but I must get my lily bulbs in! I shall be well-wrapped up!
No frost warnings here, as yet. :-)

6 Nov, 2009

6 Nov, 2009

6 Nov, 2009
Great pics MG. Thought I was the only one mad enough to be out in the garden in my jamas LOL.
I didn't have the luxury of a beautiful sky this morning, just non-stop rain !
6 Nov, 2009
Rust and rot setting in fast Sue!! The skips arrived this morning and ten of them were filled by lunchtime and another lot set down for filling by tonight I believe. It is a heart-break seeing all the furniture and belongings being thrown out ...but there is no way anything can be salvaged.
There are some dreadful people around....house agents encouraging folk to charge extortionate rentals for people made homeless by this crisis...and what can they do but pay up...albeit many of them via their insurance. Humanity - even at a time like this is in short supply it would seem.
6 Nov, 2009
I really can't answer on here Alz !! Makes my blood boil !
6 Nov, 2009
Arggg Alz. Humanity is obviously sadly lacking!
6 Nov, 2009
Yup...you are both so right. Everybody is trying SO hard to help and really the neighborlyness has been great .....then you hear of sharks like that.....grrr!
6 Nov, 2009
Unbelievable how fast the vultures appear, isnt it??
Lovely pics, Mrs Moonbulb! Turner would be ecstatic!!
6 Nov, 2009
Gorgeous photos MoonG...and thank you for going out in your jimjams for our benefit! The sky was fantastic over Dyce ( just outside Aberdeen ) this morning too, but I hadn't taken my camera to work so that was that! And then...yes...it rained!
You know what they say about the vulture-culture...'If the world catches a cold, there'll be someone out there making money out of handkerchieves'! It's sad but true, unfortunately. I bet the bin-divers have been going through the skips as well, heartless s@ds.
7 Nov, 2009
Clear frosty morning here today, Mr MB and I hope to get out and do some walking around. Thank you all for your kind comments... there will be no pix. of me in my jammies!
7 Nov, 2009
Don't recommend it either MG.....B#####Y freezing down here this morning.....only 6C in the sitootery and zero in the greenhouse.....eeek....been too busy to dig out the Frostguard heaters!
Definitely time to dig out the thermals and the hand-warmers!!!!
7 Nov, 2009
Ah but I love these still frosty days cold or no and perhaps they'll kill off some of the bugs!
7 Nov, 2009
Hopefully....and slow down some of the flaming grass growth too...just had to get the lawns cut AGAIN!! Luckily my chum has a mower that can then go round the paths and do a leaf hoover job....what a difference that makes!
7 Nov, 2009
lovely sky pics MG, just constant rain here, :o(
7 Nov, 2009
Glorious frosty sunny day... though getting cold again now. Supposed to be like this for a few days so fingers crossed!

My geraniums have finally succumbed too! :~(
8 Nov, 2009
Ah we don't have any but Mr MB yanked the Cyclamen persicum in their trough in last night... Supposed to stay dry and frosty tonight.
8 Nov, 2009
It was getting frosty at 4 today!! Even Smudge doesnt want to go out! :~))
David tells me that geranuims make great plant food & just to dig them in!! I'll retrieve the sweet pea pods from amongst them first, I think!
8 Nov, 2009
no frost yet here, just damp and wet
8 Nov, 2009
Yup same with us MP frost started around 4pm. When we went walking this morning at 10:15 it was still 0 according to the car... and I believe it! Be patient next blog WILL appear :-)
8 Nov, 2009
I shall await it eagerly! :~))
8 Nov, 2009
MG is your frost growing on top of frost its just never lifted.
So glad I opened tap on water but and let water run out.
9 Nov, 2009
Where the sun doesn't get to in the garden it is staying frosty all the time. But the roof of the potting shed is in full sun for part of the day and thaws completely. The birds are going crazy on the feeders.
9 Nov, 2009
Gorgeous day here too...but flamin' freezin' even here down near the sea. It is still at zero in the back yard and something a lot less up country when I walked the dogs earlier. It will slow down the water run off though and that is welcome right now. Happily the wee rivers are back to being wee rivers...so flooding no longer a risk.....plenty mopping up still being done and some poor souls are STILL waiting for insurance assessors to come...eeek!
9 Nov, 2009
I thought it was -6 last night Mr MB just told me it was actually -7. This is definitely early for us... three nights of frost on the trot.
Alz. sorry to hear some folk are still waiting for their properties to be assessed I guess there were a lot of claims.
9 Nov, 2009
A few hundred I believe MG but some Ins. Cos.were just smarter off the mark than others. The town community are now rallying and all those with any old but usable furniture and bedding are gifting them to a central hall for those affected to have FOC ...obviously!!
I spoke to one chap this morning who went to buy a sofa bed. as he had lost all his furniture...and not one furniture shop could guarantee he could have one before XMAS!! He asked to buy the one in the shop on display to be told "Oh no,Sir we can't sell you that one...people have been lying on it" DOH...it's a BED!!!
9 Nov, 2009
The mentality of some people is unbelievable...
9 Nov, 2009
That's totally crazy! Dont they realise that people NEED furniture right now??
9 Nov, 2009
In Forres we have Moray Waste Busters who have good quality second hand furniture for folk to buy at low prices. Or perhaps the Salvation Army or one of the other charities could help out short term with furniture. I agree it is absurd that folk want to buy stuff and are told no guarantee of delivery before Christmas! Only other alternative I can think of is to try a individual local shop rather than one of the chains, I know the furniture shop in Forres has goods in stock not just to order.
9 Nov, 2009
The trouble is we don't have any furniture shops any more!! We lost both of our family owned ones when my chum gave up hers some years ago....she couldn't find anybody interested to take it on as an emporium. It had been in her family for almost 100 years I think..and is very much missed.
All the people affected have had to go to Aberdeen where there are places that can sell you second hand furniture that has been handed in. But trying to get new/ replacements for Insurance purposes is obviously a non-starter - at least in the immediate future! What a world we live in.
Another friend that dropped in for coffee this morning had travelled down from Skye to see the assessors that were meeting her. ..at her house that she rents out. When she got to her house - she found that the salvage boys had set the dehumidifiers all going full blast....but hadn't bothered to check if the basements had been pumped out first ....which they hadn't...and they were about 3 feet deep in water etc !!! How crazy was that !! The walls and windows were pouring with condensation - of course - and the machines were getting nowhere...obviously. Workmen...honestly - I despair.
9 Nov, 2009
Unbelievable!! The words up & brewery come to mind!!
9 Nov, 2009
Hmm, buying furniture for immediate use is a bit like trying to buy gloves in January - you won't find any anywhere.
9 Nov, 2009
I like you logic B....very apt!!
There was plenty ON SHOW...but "Oh no Sir....we can't sell you THAT bed/wardrobe/ table/chair etc....they are just for show" EEEEEK!
And yes MP...quite right!!
9 Nov, 2009
:~))
9 Nov, 2009
grate photoes, now I realy do not want to be a spoil sport but wasent it from the days of sailing ships and wasent it about the wind, and wasent it sailors rather than shepards, run the guns out lads, I feal an mg coming' lol
12 Nov, 2009
I was always taught the say as 'Red sky at night shepherd's delight; red sky in the morning shepherd's warning' As the shepherd was out in all weathers - I'm sure it is used with a lot of different 'job' titles. :-)
12 Nov, 2009
as we Welsh say it's not the sheeps that graze on the mountin ,it's the sheeps that sail on the sea
12 Nov, 2009
I believe that this saying is used by both sailors AND shepherds and originates from the Bible ..... Matthew xvi.2 ..."When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and louring."
Whatever - it sure seem to work as it apparently has a basis in science. It relates to the suns' rays passing through moisture laden or dust laden particles in the atmosphere!!
However - we had another (reputedly Scottish!!) saying which amused......." If you can see the top of the mountains clearly - it is going to rain .....and if you can't see the top of the mountain clearly - it is raining anyway!"
12 Nov, 2009
I love that one Alz. and it is usually true!
12 Nov, 2009
LOL! My dad just says stick your head out the window & see if you get wet!
12 Nov, 2009
Well he sure would right now ..it is 'issing down here right now!
12 Nov, 2009
Here too! Battering off the windows!
12 Nov, 2009
And here in London - seems to be everywhere, more or less. Definitely horizontal rain here, and I know that wind is going to keep me awake tonight. Worse to come tomorrow apparently...
12 Nov, 2009
According to the Met. site - we are supposed to be clear by dog-walking time tomorrow morning....I'll believe it when I see it!
12 Nov, 2009
Lucky you - the forecast map for the South made it look like I might need a boat to get out tomorrow!
12 Nov, 2009
I just checked it, & we're the lucky ones tomorrow, but 31 mph winds on Saturday!! :~((
Glad I'm not working!
12 Nov, 2009
No rain as yet...
