This Loner has started visiting us, always on his own, and if any other starling come down he sees them off.......even though he only looks to be a youngster

We get so many now Milky we just make them a dish of lard and oats ..they may as well have this as raid everything else ..followed Clarices recipe .
They bathe en masse in the pond and leave a fat slick across it..

I like him, its a great photo Maureen.
How strange that he's a loner, like the others say, they're usually in a flock. Guess he likes his own company.

How unusual. They always seem to visit our garden in large flocks. I don't think I've ever seen a lone one . Mind you, there were nests this year in the cionifer next door, so they don't have far to come!

A smashing pic Milky.......he looks a real cutie . We've had such a lot in the garden since putting out the bird food....poor little ones stand no chance with these thugs getting everything....:o(
16 Nov, 2009
Your right Janey....they are thugs, but isnt it funny how it takes just one to come and they all come....and they all want the same scrap of bread....Lol

we have the BULLIES in our flock of starlings. It's almost like hens with their pecking order. They are usually very family orientated birds and keep together in flocks. They are very talkative birds and when they visit our garden they swoop down and take everything available on the lawn.

They really are handsome little birds and you've caught this so well Milky. Have you seen their beautiful flock aerobatics? I think it was Bill Oddie?? who voted that the most amazing sight he had seen....or something like that:-)

I never get starlings here, I have lived in this village for 13 years in 4 different houses in different parts of the village and never a starling. Nor do I see them when I go into surrounding towns/villages.....strange isn't it? Yet I do see them on the West Coast of Wales when I go there......competing with the seagulls for food!
26 Nov, 2009
Oh Dear Potty........maybe you dont butter the bread enough for them he he he Lol........

Not just yet Milky. My computer has not been well and had to go to the doctors. It is better now. Bet you have been out celebrating my demise. Was it good while it lasted? Unfortunately for all GOY members I am back so the celebrations can now cease.

Course not Toto...We shall be dancing in the streets now your back.......:>)
