....Conifer over the edge, verbena 'lollipop' plants in, pebbles hiding the air pipes....we're getting there....inbetween hail showers, rain, bluster...oh, it's horrible out there today! Is this really spring?

Thanks everybody! Yes, I am pleased with it...it has exactly the same challenge as every other rigid pond...hiding the edges! It will be great when things have grown up a bit and I think it might look quite different in a month or two. It's lovely to have water in the garden again though. I do wish I could have fish, but I can't face the heron battles or the cats......you know. Hopefully we will start to see some wildlife soon...not even a little pond skater so far. It would be nice to even see a blackbird investigating it..but nothing so far....it will happen though!
Paul, are you trying to send me 'over the edge' with your 2005 talk? lol...I won't have it! Nope, this weather will change.....soon.....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!

well - it is looking slightly better by end of next week about 4th - 5th Karen - we could and stress could be having a high building to the east of us - meaning warmer and sunnier - but some gloom to rid of before next week :(

pond looking great karen, bet your thrilled its all in and up and running, love the cobbles and planting to, once the pond has settled it wont take long for wildlife to find it karen have you got a branch ir something for frogs to use to climb out karen, when they mate the female can drown if no exit help as the male clings on and you can imagine its hard to climb out with him on your back hahaha, i have a branch, :o)))

Thanks San. If you look at the top of the pond there is a collection of pebbles ...but perhaps you mean from the deep end....and that's a good point. I do have a big Eucalyptus trunk that I could put in there to lead from the deep to the shelf...good thinking San, thanks! :)) x
26 Apr, 2012
Paul, thanks for that...that is at least something like good news on the weather front front! :)))
26 Apr, 2012

It looks lovely Karen, love the stone and pebbles, my frogs get out easily at one end, they just know eventually where to go to climb in and out. Talking of which last night we had a mating pair of toads at the back door, that is how much water we have around the garden, think they thought it was the pond at our back door. One up on the path too so I got out my shovel and picked them up to take them back to the pond. I don't mind holding them but am told that our body heat hurts them so I had to put them on the shovel and put my hand over them to stop them hopping off. lol. the things we have to do to rescue the wild life. I am still taunted (by the men) for saving a little baby waterhens life we are now over run with waterhens and of course it is my fault for the rescue. lol :o) I can take it!

Looking good Karen, yes its always a puzzle how to hide the liner edges, Rob came up with the bright idea of putting turf round the edges of ours, which does look good, but I'm the one on my hands and knees with a pair of clippers cutting the grass!!!!! one day he'll hear splash and have to rescue me,lol, its all flooded at the moment though anymore rain and I'll be rescuing escapee fish ;-)

It is looking great Karen, heavy rain here, been falling since 4 am and now 9.30 am easing down a little, the builders won't give in, they are doing the roof now. Bless them!
27 Apr, 2012
Looking really good already Karen. It has rained here all day so far and not looking like it's going to stop...ever :O(
27 Apr, 2012
Lovely looking pond Karen :-) I should think that your slug and snail poulation will diminish when the frogs find their way there....
27 Apr, 2012
Going to be so pretty and lush Karen....pls rain go away for a while...!
27 Apr, 2012
Thank you everyone....Oliveoil...we have all had a good laugh at your back door pond and toad rescue operation! :))
27 Apr, 2012
2nd day of solid rain here and I am sooooooo bored. Back to the garage in a minute for more indoor potting x
28 Apr, 2012
Oh poor you Annie. I hate to tell you, but we've had sun almost all day long...no rain..but it's windy and cold..still, I got loads done. Off for my curry now! :))
28 Apr, 2012
High winds from the north east now, it's awful! We are going out for a curry lunch tomoz ...Derek's birthday. Would have been nicer to sit outside some pretty country pub and eat but not in this weather :o)))
28 Apr, 2012
I know, it's awful isn't it....so cold and so wet. I do hope it changes soon or we shall all start to feel really low. :(
28 Apr, 2012
that looks very nice Karen...
28 Apr, 2012
Thanks v. much Slad. I'm pleased with how it's turned out.
28 Apr, 2012
Looking lovely Karen:-) We had a warm sunny day today yipee! until about 6.o'clock when it poured down so got a lot of weeding and a bit of planting done:-)
30 Apr, 2012
Great news BA! Thank you. It's dry here today also. I think I shall go a plant-hunting! :))
1 May, 2012
Pouring down again today:-(
1 May, 2012
what a difference in such a short time Karen. The wildlife will love it.
1 May, 2012
Sorry to hear that BA...sunny all day here and today the first sound I heard outdoors was a Skylark....I thought all my christmases had come together! The sound of a skylark can transform my mood completely!! Same with a blackbird singing! :) Thanks Linda! :))
1 May, 2012
You pond is looking great Karen. The weather in Scotland is to be good for a couple of days then cold again at the weekend. Hope you get a bit more done while it is warmer. Monty Don hasn't got a look in. :o))
1 May, 2012
Karen, where I lived before there was a field adjoining old clay quarries...it used to be full of skylarks with their joyous song and lovely little crests and, in season, ladysmock. They made it into a toxic waste site. No more skylarks or ladysmock:-(
2 May, 2012
Thank you Linda. We went to Glensaugh today and had lunch at the Clattering Brig...and in the top car park there, I found a couple of really good flat stones for the pond edge! lol...souvenir!
2 May, 2012
That looks wonderful, Karen! congrats! the planting looks perfectly natural. I'm filling in the pond I made last year and digging a space for a wooden framework for the butyl liner. going to be much different from previous ponds. It's a whole new set of challenges but pond are great when they are finally up and running. Nothing beats the sound of water in a garden.
3 May, 2012
Oh gosh Lori! That sounds like a big new plan! I look forward to seeing that later on!
3 May, 2012
Pond looking good Karen. Lots more rain here overnight and a really dull dry day. The little Essex rivers are now flowing out onto the fields. Sorry your weather has been so awful too.
3 May, 2012
We have got off very lightly compared to the southern counties Dorjac...but I fear we are going to suffer the arctic blast this weekend ;(
3 May, 2012
I've just heard we're going to have a May freeze!:-(
3 May, 2012
It's not looking good. I think I may retreat indoors and do my re-decorating until it has gone!
3 May, 2012
Good luck with that:-)
4 May, 2012
:(gee, thanks BA! ;)
4 May, 2012
Good Grief~! not another month of cold temps...pleeeease!? It's been lovely the last three days but had to go out and put plastic and fleece over my newly planted tomatoes and celery and my (finally) growing perennials 'cause hubby informed me it was to go down to near freezing. There is a very bright full moon, but recently clear weather has meant COLD WIND...I'm so ticked off~
5 May, 2012
We are exactly the same over here Lori...freezing arctic blast has now engulfed the uk and it was -6 inland here last night. We seem to have escaped the frost because we are on the coast, but I haven't been out and checked up yet.
