If I am lucky this corner gets maybe 5 hours of sun a year??? I can see it from my kitchen window so I thought I would cheer it up, all the pots were reduced.
As you can probably see I haven't planted them up yet and the positioning of the pots is not finalised. So its a work in progress picture!!

thank you girls!!, i agree the heuchera is a bit hidden there, i think i was looking more at the pots than the plants!!!
the fern, hosta and heuchera are all new today ~ thats why they look healthy!!!!

I think it looks really pretty Sticki. Go for it! :D

thank you karen!!!! might have a go at splitting one of my older heucheras too ~ like you suggested!!! [several have that spotty rust thing though]
30 Aug, 2012
thanks homebird ~ will have to change them over and take another picture tomorrow!!!!

Yes, I've rust on a couple as well, but that's the least of my problems this year! My fruit trees had to come out because of the flooding and disease that they got from being too stressed, several of the roses and clems have also bit the dust today and going through my catalogue I realise that several other plants have just died and disappeared.....such a horrible year...and things are about to get much worse, as the price of food is going to rocket. I was talking to a friend who works with local farmers and a lot of the crops here have rotted. I just hope we don't get the same again next year!

im so glad we had/are having london 2012 cos there wasnt much sun but there was plenty of gold!!!!
sorry you lost so many things, food never seems to get cheaper either does it.

Great group of pots Sticki....nice and bright in a sunless corner, love the hosta, its a stunner!
30 Aug, 2012
thank you janey, um i think its fire and ice, let me go and check [with the torch]
yes it is and the heuchera is firechief ~ so that should warm it all up!!
30 Aug, 2012
Quite a fiery corner then Sticki......hope there are no snails hiding under those rims, else you'll be hot under the collar...lol! I'll remember the hosta...it's certainly one to look out for.....:))
30 Aug, 2012
there had better not be janey ~ you are right!!! but if i dont keep checking they will definitely try to sneak in!!!
30 Aug, 2012

30 Aug, 2012
I'm sure you'll do a great job with them, be lovely if that is almost evergreen.
30 Aug, 2012
i have a similar one by the front door [also shady] they seem to last most of the year and gradually replace their fronds i think???
30 Aug, 2012

30 Aug, 2012
lets hope we dont get 3 feet of snow to finish it off again!!!
30 Aug, 2012

I love it, I like ferns, I like Heucheras and I like Hostas, now look what you have done set me off thinking again. I went out this week and bought a phormium and three bunny tail grasses for a half barrel someone passed on to me. Therapy shopping after not being able to get out all summer. Must admit it does look lovely now it is planted up. I do like what you have done, the blue (not my colour) looks absolutely lovely. Post a picture of the finished arrangement for us all please. :O)
31 Aug, 2012
The blue pots give a nice contrast :-)
31 Aug, 2012
here we are DD the fern is called 'Dryopteris erythrosora' as an added bonus it has the RHS award of merit
thanks meadowland
i love the grasses olive, surreylad sent me bunny tail seeds and they did quite well, i do like blue.
i will try to get a picture and the pots sorted, thought i had the afternoon to myself but OH had other ideas. :-(((
thank you tubbyhippo, i do like blue and green together
31 Aug, 2012
they look good all grouped together. I have this fern too and it's lovely.
31 Aug, 2012
thank you,
is yours evergreen linda?
31 Aug, 2012
That's a lovely wee group Sticki.....certainly adds interest. I also have this fern Sticki - it is evergreen in my garden. A Japanese Holly Fern would also be evergreen you can usually pick these up in Morrisons for around £2.
31 Aug, 2012
oh, ok, thanks scottish, i added a tiny one with a white cyclamen in today, still not potted up though, got to lose those bricks!!! hopefully tomorrow
and i shall try to visit morrisons!!
31 Aug, 2012
The more I look at this Sticki the better it gets : ) I haven't been great with the small pots of ferns I have but you can have a cutting off of my japanese fern if you like or if there's anything on my front you fancy.
31 Aug, 2012
oh japanese fern, thanks stevie thats a good idea ~ i have one that is currently in the wrong place ~ i shall put it here instead.
thats really kind, thank you;
you will probably know better than me what will work best ~ hardly any sun at all here [none from now till may!!!]
31 Aug, 2012
My fern is in the front garden Sticki and the leaves did die back during the very bad winter that we had but always grows well and is so colourful.
1 Sep, 2012
Thanks Linda, I had a feeling that a few 'leaves' survived while others died but then more arrived. Is yours in the sun at all?
1 Sep, 2012
It's in the front garden and gets some sunshine in the morning.
1 Sep, 2012
well the benefit of pots is that i can move them if mine dont look too happy!!
1 Sep, 2012
I think your shady corner looks lovely.
1 Sep, 2012
thanks clarice, i have taken the bricks away now! hopefully it looks a bit better?
1 Sep, 2012
