Is it a hypericum (St.John's Wort)? Probably not - I'm often wrong! Lovely plant, though - the stamens are like whiskers!

Lovely photo, Sticki. You made from an ordinary plant a little "rose of Suzanne" miracle :)) How nice, SL knows so many things about flowers. I didnĀ“t know this name of hypericum either.
For both of you:

I love this plant I really do. I have two different ones and they always amaze me with how bright and striking they are and the berries afterwards are a real bonus. Lovely picture

Great picture Sticki. I set some Rose of Sharon last year and just starting to flower now.

thanks homebird and dawnsaunt, is there another similar plants with bigger flowers? these are a bit less than 2 centimetres across!

1 Sep, 2012

I have the Hypericum that are around 3 feet tall with lots of smaller flowers. How tall are your plants Sticki?

1 Sep, 2012

Yes there is! This one is very pretty - lots of folk-lore about St.John's Wort.

1 Sep, 2012

about 2 and a half foot this one, possibly 3 dawn? but i have some with bigger flowers that are shorter

is it good for you tuesday?

1 Sep, 2012

Is what good for me, Sticki? It's good for depression - is that the sort of thing you mean?

1 Sep, 2012

oh sorry i meant is st johns wort good for us?

and if it is how do you get that part from the plant?

1 Sep, 2012

The version with bigger flowers is a ground cover plant which spreads with abandon the smaller one you picture (beautifully) is a shrub version with more berries, all share the collection of names! super plants :o)

At this point I concede defeat! Not a clue how you get the right bit from the plant. I used to buy it in capsule form from a health food shop. It has some connection with the Summer Solstice too and though I ought to, I don't quite remember what it is.

1 Sep, 2012

thanks neellan, yes that would explain the other one ~ it spreads everywhere!!!

i have seen it in tablet form tuesday, doesnt seem to be sold as a tea does it? i shall have to have a look on google

1 Sep, 2012

I have the one that spreads, I have a love/hate relationship with it as it has invaded my bottom raised bed and I cannot get rid of the darn stuff, at the moment I love it as its providing me with colour, lol....

2 Sep, 2012

i know exactly what you mean lincslass, the one with the bigger flower seems to pop up all over the place [doesnt always flower either]

2 Sep, 2012

Yes, lot's of folklore about St Johns Wort. Meant to be good for depression but shouldn't be used in conjunction with prescribed anti depressants.

I have a smaller version of this as well, thinks it's ever green, it's so pretty. No big red seed heads though, just lots of pretty yellow flowers!

3 Sep, 2012
