Blues and greens, looking towards Cliveden, Berkshire.

I love this area, lived and worked as a student nurse on this estate for 3 years. Not only famous for the wonderful mansion house and gardens and The Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital and its treatment for Stills disease-childhood arthritis (now gone) but of course the Cliveden estate is best remembered as Christine Keeler met Profumo there and the rest as they say!

Absolutely stunning!

oh wow Drc! nice to have some history with it, in fact this picture is taken from the property 'next door' as it were? Im not entirely certain where the boundary between the two is. Cliveden is on the horizon I think in this picture!

Cliveden was the Home of the Asters from 1893 and they entertained Governments and Royalty over the years and of course took a great interest in 'their' Hospital, although it was taken over by the NHS in 1948. Every year the nurses prizes were presented by a well known person often a royal such as Princess Alice, the Countess of Mount Batten and Princess Margaret.

It is lovely Homebird; thanks Tuesdaybear

must have been amazing to work there Drc! Did you meet any of those royals or VIPs?

8 Sep, 2012

No before my time. The children and the work on Stills disease was fascinating and very rewarding.

great to have a rewarding job!

:))

Sticki@very nice view. Do you live close to there?
Drc726@What a pity, that another good hospital was abolished. It is quite romantic, that she (Keeler) met there with British Secretary of War, isnĀ“t it :)). Is it also known where did she meet Russian atache for the first time? Ballet?

About an hour and a half by car katarina, Works out quite nicely as it's almost half way between where we live and where my oldest son lives, convenient and nice meeting place. Also less than ten minutes from my sister.

Very good. It is good to have a large park in a vicinity, no matter, if it is close to the place one lives or works. I remember, that I always felt very natural and "home" in Spain and Italy, as majority of daily work is done there outside, even cooking and learning and that was very nice. I know sanatory in Germany and one is in Slovakia, which are situated on sunny hilly places, with streams/river beneath - as if projected by feng-shui masters :) However, these places have one trick. Doctors know, their patients like it too and return there very happily, even they do not have disease related to that sort of sanatorium. "I would like to be admitted here, as I feel very well here", that was once argument of a patient with liver failure to me, who worked in dpt for TB and respiratory diseases :)))

beautifully tranquil scene, that's gone straight into faves. I imagine it oculd show many moods, depending on the sunshine; all serene now, I bet it could be really moody another time

9 Sep, 2012

I think winter there would be fantastic fran! think i will book myself another visit ~ in the frost and snow?

9 Sep, 2012

Burnham Beeches just down the road from here is wonderful for autumn colour.

9 Sep, 2012

9 Sep, 2012

9 Sep, 2012

9 Sep, 2012

9 Sep, 2012

9 Sep, 2012

oh, yes please!

lol and in sun, and rain, and cloud, and ... every mood in every season.

there seems to be a wooden thing under the tree, but I can't quite make out what it is - bridge? bench?

9 Sep, 2012

So beautiful, and interesting reading the history. Sticki you're becoming a real pro..... on that theme ... Katarina, I think you have a different idea of 'romantic' from mine lol:-)

9 Sep, 2012

Bornagain, it was ironic :))

9 Sep, 2012

fran, its a little wooden bridge, there is another under the willow, they are really pretty

9 Sep, 2012

That's a lovely photo Sticki!

9 Sep, 2012

Thanks meanie, I really like the place but it's the blues and greens that took my eye!

10 Sep, 2012

That would make sense. Especially after the summer that we've had.

10 Sep, 2012

Very true! Good thing I like green!

10 Sep, 2012

Very much the definition of blue n green : ) Its says summer very loud

10 Sep, 2012

lol think I'll paint this as a mural to cover one bedroom wall completely - that'd be something to wake up to every day!

10 Sep, 2012

Nice thought stevie, thank you!

Great idea fran!

10 Sep, 2012

I stumbled across wall murals on eBay; most of them weren't to my taste, but there were a few - lol none to compare with this pic, or with many others on GoY. Prob is, one would need to be a minimlaist, have almost no furniture, so that the mural could be seen without inconventient shelves etc getting in the way. Do'nt think many of us could fit that category

10 Sep, 2012

no im sorry i dont!!!

mind you i could be persuaded for a mural of a hebriddean beach?!!

10 Sep, 2012

Wonderful place Sticki! Such a lovely late summer day, England at it's best...:0)).

10 Sep, 2012

september skies are a bit special arent they, thanks janey!

10 Sep, 2012

that pic could be subtitled "tranquillity" and then some!

11 Sep, 2012

That's nice Fran, thank you! It is a lovely place to be and I have walked through that part early in the morning, certainly tranquil then, it's magic! No one else about!

11 Sep, 2012

Sticki, all pro photographers take load of pics of the same thing (saw a program lol) I suppose part of the art is knowing which is the 'one':-)

12 Sep, 2012

im no good at that either BA!!!!

12 Sep, 2012

13 Sep, 2012

16 Sep, 2012
