Looks lovely, but a problem in the woods near me its swamping and destroying the English Bluebells.I have seen a vast increase in the few years I have been walking Jamie

Wonderful. Is this the same woodland as where the sweet rocket grows? My wild garlic hasnt gone mad at all, I guess its a question of time but I have mine set well away from the bluebells. Do you remember Arlene in Wales, she was always complaining about it taking over bluebell woods.

Thanks all .. it would be tragic if the Garlic took over from the Bluebells in this wood at the moment the Garlic is confined to one area the bluebells cover vast areas in most of the wood with the Lily of the valley in another area each separate from each other , the bluebells surround the Garlic or is the Garlic pushing it's way into the path of the Bluebells ? sounds worrying , this isn't the same wood as the Sweet Rocket Dawn I haven't been there yet this year it's something I must do before it's to late ....

I forgot to mention that the wood was used as an ammunition dump by the Americans in the last war ,there are concrete roads crossing through the wood in different direction it's almost impossible to see them as over the years the soil leaves etc. have left a thick carpet covering them I'm wondering if the fact that they are there will stop the Garlic spreading from one area to another ...

Nature is wonderful but maybe a bit of man intervention may help segregate the garlic and bluebells, each so beautiful in their own way.

Lets hope so Dawn ,when we walk there I try to imagine what it was like when the Americans used it perhaps they thought it was beautiful in the spring if they hadn't seen spring flowers like it before :o)

I would imagine they were amazed Amy. By ammunition dump, what did they actually dump there?

A wood in the spring is such a lovely place to be. Love the flower but am not keen on the scent though.

They stored Bombs there Dawn , hidden away from prying eyes !!
The Garlic is a little overpowering Chris , you can smell it before you reach it !

wow ...makes my little patch of garlic chives look puny! an ammunition dump? was it decommissioned by detonation? Ka-Boom! would that mean a lot of phosphorus? I planted garlic in my little veggie plot for the first time this year... Instead of using sets this year I used a couple of bunches of green onions that were a little past it (for kitchen use). So far it looks like they're doing fine. I love garlic and the smell of the blossoms make me sniffy...wonder why? I thought my allergies had left me now that I'm an old lady. ;-)

Thanks San Whalley Abbey looked to be a lovely place to visit ,
Lori I burst out laughing at the thought of our woods being blown up at the end of the war LOL .. no the bombs were taken away ! we had more aerodromes in East Anglia than any other part of the country it's littered with old runways crossing fields ,a lot have been broken up and ploughed by the farmers these days ,I don't think we ever really grow out of allergies most days I'm fine and then another I'm really bad .I hope your Garlic does well for you :o)
It is a pretty flower Sb I think a lot of what we call wild flowers are ,we have dandelions in flower at the sides of our roads at the moment mixed with ox-eye daisies they look a picture ..:-)

Who would have thought wild garlic could look so lovely:-)

I love the historic aspect of gardening in England! One of your kings..buried in a carpark in Leiscestershire.)(sp?)
Do you ever come across unexploded ordinance?...like they have in France?
Dandelions and daisies is a common spring bouquet over here too...there is a type of wild echium that is the most gorgeous blue which grows on roadsides here. At present there is a lovely little mound of wild mustard yellowing up the meadow...and the sweet smelling Lady's Bedstraw is just about to bloom.
