historic poulton-le-fylde spring crocus`s

hi all though i would show you the historic town “village as locals have always called it” where i was born and all my mums family have come from, its about 5 mins from where i live now, i work there and my parents still live there to,
at the moment we have lots of visitors going there to see the famous spring crocus`s and believe me there are a wonderfull site, many years ago when i was younger at the back of the church the crocus spelt out the name “st, chads” which was beautifull but after many years the whole area has become a mass on ever patch of grass, every year i love to walk round and take in this breath taking view,
st, chads was first recorded in history dated back to 1094, this was as far back as they can go where the iriginal church stood, then the tower was built in 1630`s, since then the main body has been added in 1752. poulton has great history as a thriving market town and port being the river wire, long before blackpool and fleetwood, my family date back many years there, all agricultural land and still is growing salad produce,
also known for smugglers and there is a workway from the river to poulton where the smugglers use to enter,
we still have the original stocks but sadly not in use any more lol,
ive watched this town grow and not always for the better but in my heart i still have so many happy memories as a child growing up there with cobbled streets and old shops which are still there,
hope you enjoy the pics ive taken of st, chads and the beautifull crocus`s

sadly alot of the head stones where removed many years ago, they were so old and very brocken up, some were left, my granparents were lay to rest here so the place has a very special meaning to me

hope you enjoyed the visit to st,chads, amongst the crocus are snowdrops and lots of daffs to come, cant wait :o)) x

What a wonderful sight all those crocus are. Poulton looks nice. We went there a few years ago and had a look around the church, and were told some interesting pieces of history by the Rector or Church Warden.
My childhood was spent near there in Great Eccleston, which holds many happy memories, but alas most of the people I knew are dead, but I still love the feel of the place.
Your photos make me want to visit again.

I hadn't seen this blog until today! I loved all those Crocuses - absolutely gorgeous! Here in Huntingdon we have some patches of Crocuses with many 100s of plants in each one. They were donated by the the Rotary Club of Huntingdon many years ago. I took some photos last year & again this year. They were mostly golden yellow with a few whites amongst them. When the yellows were going over out came the purples. I got more photos of the yellows than the purples but they all looked so lovely! Now some Daffs are coming through. I'll get some photos of them as well next week. The last time I saw them they were just green buds.

28 Mar, 2010

its lovely to see so many isnt it balcony, there are daffs to come out here to, hope you get some nice shots of them to show us :o))

28 Mar, 2010

I'll have to put together a short blog so as to show them off. Sadly the Snowdrops & the Crocuses have finished for this year. :-( There period of bloom is only a couple of weeks - but what a couple of weeks!!!

29 Mar, 2010

you will have to remember next year balcony :o))

30 Mar, 2010

Only just caught up with this San......I love the photos...those Crocuses are incredible...how lovely to see them every year, those old bulbs multiplying as the years go by....and all your forbears sleeping there in the village, I bet they would be thrilled to know down the line, you and your family are there still in 2010.

Really enjoyed it!
