pond plants

today is another beautifull sunny day and i decided to go and buy some pond plants, i knew i wanted a marsh marigold and a water hawthorn which BB told me about, anyway i got to the maidenhead ponds here in blackpool not maidenhead lol, and luckerly he had just got his plants in so quite a few to chose from.
i got my marsh marigold but couldnt get the water hawthorn but no matter i did get 6 in all which will probably be way to many when they grow but i wanted them all, so i got a varigated dwarf rush, ladies smock cardamine pratensis, american water iris versicolor, also another which has no name but is cream and like snakes head plant,,got my pond composs and gravel and spent quite alot but what the heck not like im going to be buying them every week, my pond isnt big enough haha. also over weekend baz made a lovely wooden green low border around to finish it all off and stop the grass cuttings being blown into the pond, it all looks lovely and i added the last rocks today and placed my palm in its spot, have my gunnera which i may put by the side od the old conifer as its a bit shady to stop it getting to much sun,
so there you go all done, hope ive put the plant baskets in enough depth, i followed intructions so think they will be fine but hate seeing the baskets showing, i guess they will cover once the plants grow.
hope you all had a great day to, dont want this weather to end now its here
thought i would finish off with a lovely butterfly that settled on a stepping stone for some sun and some lovely daffs, as you can see my surounding plants are all coming back nicely

Everything has come together so well, Sanbaz. That little green edging was a real brainwave and really sets the whole thing off. Can't believe you have achieved so much in such a short time. Wilcos are selling those little solar rock lights, that Lincslass mentioned, at the moment for a couple of pound each. I'm sure you're going to have such a lot of fun and interest around the pond in the coming months.
12 Apr, 2010
cheers Gee i may look at them rock lights in wilkos when i get to town thanx, im having to water plants already as i get sun for best part of day there, funny as didnt realise when trees were there, ;o))

Your pond looks wonderful, San. What a mammoth effort you and Baz have put in and you persevered under disappointment/disaster/tears....well done :)
Just a quick question....Do you need electricity to operate your pump and fountain? I've heard about solar fountains but haven't had to do any research on that side of things yet.
You put me to shame with your steadfastness to your projects in the garden...all the digging!! I've got loads of those cement flags like you coped with too and I just hope when they are lifted we can find a use for them.
Your blogs are so inspirational and I admire your spunk and creativity...your pond is to die for!

aww thanx so much Wlass, im made up you like the pond as its my pride and joy, the pump is electric, it is a 3 in one, pump, fountain and waterfall, its called easyclear they come in different sizes and as i wanted a waterfall had to get the med one i think, you can get solar fountains but im not sure how good they are and how effective in keeping clear water, you would have to ask at the pond place near you,
i couldnt rest till i had my garden done as since i got with baz 5 years ago we did the house from top to bottom and my garden had to wait, so last year i took control and started it which then got baz motivated to helping me lol, my lads dug the tree stumps out and baz helped when he could, i then dug it all over and baz dug the pond hole for me, once we got the liner right i lay all the rocks and stones and made waterfall, then all the planting, its my haven ;o))
7 Oct, 2010
I can understand it being your haven...unlike you I'm still needing things done inside the house as well as the garden. Hubby is happy to let things lay which can be frustrating.
I sure do like your pond although I am pretty sure we wouldn't do the same...maybe just a water feature....but we shall see. Anyhow...you already know I love your garden and am very impressed by all your efforts. x

thankyou Wlass x
